So I started watching Y&R earlier this year--a soap that I'll admit that I NEVER would have seen myself getting into in the past; I guess time really DOES make fools of us all, hee!--and I'll say it: I am LOVING Trevor St. John as Tucker. Whatever issues I had with him on this show, I definitely don't have any of them watching him as Tucker. Granted, he's not playing a character that is being portrayed as almost everything that he logically shouldn't be this time around (to the point where the original actor is brought back to undo the damage and TSJ's character is revealed to be someone else), but still. lol

I always liked Trevor so he's fine on YR to me too, but honestly I don't see much difference between Tucker and VicTodd, his acting is basically the same. He looks bored half the time, but that's just him. I think it's just easier when we don't have an investment in the character relationships. When we thought he was Todd his indifference toward people we knew he should care about was annoying, but Tucker wasn't as engrained into YR as Todd was OLTL, and I'm not as invested in YR as I was OLTL.

After the MM revamp, I don't see how else they could reimagine her though.

Miller brought her back to the level of a calm, seemingly normal person...but she became boring and lame and needy (Andre as a best friend??) and then was transitioned straight back into being crazy again. That didn't work so well with MM playing it so...it felt like they just burned the character out.

What would her new purpose be? It's too late to say she's always considered herself a serious journalist (they kinda tried that, but halfheartedly and only after she went nuts a few times) and too late to make her seem devoted to some other career path. If the only reason to bring her back is to play Mommy and Wife, Stephanie fills that role I suppose.

It seems they'd want her to be good and nice and pleasant as a legacy character if they brought her back again, but she became extremely complicated and very hard to root for at all. I think the character is toast.

Doesn't mean she isn't next to return though...

I get that, and I agree that the character probably needed a rest, goodness knows I didn't wanna watch her go crazy again, I just don't think she should have been killed. I would have written Chad and Abby off together again like they did in 2019, but I know some thought that would be unfair for Billy to lose his job. Chad's not exactly lightning up the screen with excitement anymore either however, he's turned into a purse holding obstacle for adopted cousins.

When was Abigail at her most relevant/likeable?

Thinking back, I struggle to think of a time she had her potential tapped in an enjoyable way.

I think you guys said her pre-Mansi portrayer was good but I don't remember hearing about what she did. Any good storylines?

I saw some clips of her trying to tell Chelsea not to give up her V card, but other than that...

Was kid Abigail fun? Or around?

I'm totally late on this, but I believe Will, Shawn and Abby are about the only 3 characters we've seen at all phases of life. Born on the show, toddler, pre-teen, teens, college, adult, parents, we saw it all with these three. I know she's not popular here, but I'll never think killing her or Will was right, even if Will has been undone.

Billy Flynn got wasted being tied down to Abigail.

It's also rumored that he really, really, really didn't like Kate Mansi.

I know it's UO here but I actually like Kate more than Billy lol. For me it's when she left that he lost all the charisma he had, he started stuttering and it's been downhill since.

Kate and Billy actively disdain one another, but I also think that's what made their Chabby work so well, it's like the hate created tension. I do like Marci and actually think she's the best actor of the three, but Chabby was at their peak with Billy and Kate.

Canary Fan is right however, even the most charismatic person ever would have a hard time making anything out of this writing we get with Ron.

Carson Boatman is generic, but damn it, I like him anyway. He kinda just snuck up on me, and I was initially with you because I thought Johnny needed to be broodingly tall, dark, and handsome. Him being short and blond and looking more like Man-Sam was kind of a shock.  I think it's because he's really good at generating chemistry with whoever they're trying to pair him with. I've pretty much been sold on every pairing they've tried with him so far.

I do wonder what it might have been like if Days had managed to snag Nicholas Alexander Chavez for Johnny instead of GH getting him for Spencer Cassadine. I think he toootttttalllly could have played what you had in mind for Johnny.

Yup, this is totally more what I think Johnny should be. I see people complaining about Lucas Adams and Tripp but I myself see very little difference between him and Carson and Johnny. Same generic pretty boy, same nice boy who loves all the girls. I just don't get it. Why can't they hire someone dynamic anymore? I think the last guy who had a lot of charisma was Billy Flynn, which he, very sadly, has also completely lost.

Ken doesn't have it bad for Brock Kelly like he did for Taniel so that explains that. So frustrating that this show can't see what they have with Brock Kelly. I'll never forget Ken saying outright he wishes he could put Dr. Tan & Jennifer on everyday. I was like, "No shit!"

I don't blame Lindsay either. Carson Boatman has been able to make the character of Johnny work, but that's largely because Carson Boatman is incredibly good at making chemistry with everyone he comes in contact with.

Oh my, I gotta say that I agree about Lindsay, I think she was very good saddled with a writer who had no interest in her character at all. Ron is much more interested in Johnny and you can tell, but I find Carson Boatman to be just above the block of wood that is Brandon Beemer. I mean I guess he's fine for this soap, but little Johnny, who they also used a lot more than little Allie, had me hoping for so much more. CB comes off like generic soap guy number 3, and Sami and EJ's kid should be more than that.

The WLW shows have been dropping like flies lately. This one wasn't a good show by any means, but it was fun and it had good viewership -- better than Heartstopper, which was renewed for two seasons. It just sucks.

From what I gather a lot of people started the show, but most didn't finish it to the end. I guess they figured the people that dropped out wouldn't try it again if it got another season.

I'm bummed because it wasn't a good show, but I really enjoyed the Juliet actress and thought she and Cal had a nice chemistry. Hopefully both go on to have good careers and I can watch them in other things.

I've basically decided I'm not watching any Netflix shows until it already has at least two or three seasons. Getting invested and then having a show get dropped after one season and a cliffhanger isn't worth it.

Trevor St. John (Victor Lord Jr.) is taking on another soap:

    https://deadline.com/2022/08/the-young-and-the-restless-trevor-st-john-cast-1235083092/

I was a little surprised by this, I feel like he's been working fairly regularly in primetime stuff, I know he was on the "Roswell" reboot as a regular for at least a season.

Everything he does lasts only one season or like in Roswell they kill him off. As much as he complained he at least knows soaps are a consistent job.

Oh I think Chanel is by far the best actor of the 3, or at least has some charisma. Allie sucks energy out of every scene. And I don't care for Johnny either. I quite liked Chanel with Tripp

Raven has lots of charisma, I like her a lot and adore Chanel, but she's awful at crying. Allie is written as such a drip I don't think Lindsay has much to work with, but when she was the devil I thought she played it very well, completely different from Allie. Whereas I thought Johnny was about the same as usual when he was the devil. I actually do like Tripp too and think it's a shame he's only ever used as a device to keep couples apart.

Yeah. Their scenes are so bad. And I'm not anti lesbian by any means, I just find Allie so dull and void of personality.

I think Lindsay Arnold is the best actor out of the younger set, but yeah Allie is written pretty terribly most of the time, but I mean they all are. They haven't even settled on a personality for Johnny yet. This whole triangle was one of the worst I've ever seen.

Am I the only one who doesn't really give a shit that the show doesn't wanna bother with actors who don't want to work full time? Now, killing them seems a tad extreme but again it's Days so death means nothing anyway. I could easily see any/all of these people coming back eventually.

Death meaning nothing is exactly why they shouldn't do it. This whole thing will be about Gwen anyway, their killing off a character we saw born and practically grow up on the show, it's just not the way imo, and you'd think they'd have learned that with Will.

I love Florencia, and over the years there were times I really enjoyed Téa. They didn't always write her well but FL always delivered onscreen, had great rapport with a lot of actors, and she was an essential element for me by the time of the online show. Téa was also a character who FL always knew better than the writers, so whenever she still needed to be inserted into a story as a scheming lawyer with less overbearing morality than the others she could do it (and still could). I will be watching.

Well said! Tea was nuts but I loved it. Looking forward to what Florencia has to say.

That was a change made at the executive level - I heard it was Frank Valentini the executive producer not finding Eddie Alderson (Matthew) hot enough to be lead and increasingly marginalizing him when he couldn't become a stud at like 15, but it could be the network. I was always pissed about that, and was very pleased when the online show on Hulu returned to that couple as a focus as well as a budding triangle with them and Destiny.

Thank you! How ridiculous that they would think Eddie wasn't hot enough, he was adorable. I also think putting Danielle with Nate made the character boring, because he was all she focused on, there was so much more they could have done with Matthew/Danielle. At least they tried to fix it on the reboot.

Another question, was all the weird chemistry tests they had for Kelly when Gina Tognoni came back also mandated from higher up? Todd and Kelly in particular were pretty awful, and I didn't understand it when TSJ and FL already worked really well together, and they had just brought a new daughter for them. Kelly and John weren't much better.

  14. Hey all, I'm a long time OLTL fan who's been sucked back in through youtube, I really miss this show. I was watching some of the last few years and does anyone know why they suddenly ended Matthew and Danielle? From what I remember at the time people enjoyed them, and watching things back they were as adorable as I remember. I think I even remember RC previewing things like VicTodd and Tea fighting with Bo and Nora about Matt and Dani and none of that ever happened. Was it Ron's decision to just end them, or was it from higher up? I hated Nate.

Victor will just fire Xander and make Brady CEO and all will be well.

I disagree.  Last time Abigail gave her the break she deserved because Gabi served what should be Abigail's time in prison,.

Stefan is the one who set her going to prison in motion, he framed her.  He's the reason she's barren, a fact she brings up continuously when her schemes are found out.  He never went to jail either.

And can I sit on the Gabi bench with you?  I know we're supposed to think she's EVIL but at least she's amusing.  And she owns her shit.

    She does?

I'm seeing an awful lot of whining from her these last few days. It's not fair! I don't hate her, but I don't feel bad for her either.

    She's gonna get off anyway.

I think the marketing is a problem. Reading reviews and reactions of moviegoers has made me interesting in going to see this but the marketing did not sell it. R-rated blockbusters are always a gamble too. They were probably expecting it to get worse reviews then it did but if they lifted the review embargo earlier it might have helped.

I love Margot Robbie and think Mary Elizabeth Winstead is always awesome, but I had no interest in this, at least in the theater, because the trailer looked exactly like Suicide Squad, which ended up being terrible.  I'm happy to hear it's actually pretty good.

Ron has the most uncanny ability to paint the villains as the good guys and the good guys as the villains. I can't decide whether it's deliberate, or just another indictment on his particular brand of storytelling. 🙃

Edit - I should probably expand on this a bit. Leo was a conman who had previously killed, but his mommy was so mean to him and that's why he did such terrible things. Same with Xander; we're apparently supposed to feel sorry his family has treated him like the joke he is, despite all the terrible things he's done. Ron has a thing about redeeming villains, for some reason.

Then there's Eric, who is supposed to be a good guy but yikes. Friggin' Ciara jumps in the face of anyone who dares to say her serial killer boyfriend isn't safe to be around (plus that same serial killer's living victims are starting to change their tune about him). And of course, there's your example with Lani. It doesn't help that so many characters had to be dumbed down for this pacemaker thing to be told, but what the heck is going on that they can't figure out how to write correctly for the protagonists vs. the antagonists?

I think all soap writers have this problem now days.  It's just easier to write a bad character who has a heart deep down than it is to write a good character who's suddenly bad.  The good characters do something wrong and their a hypocrite, the bad characters do something wrong and it's because their bad.

It: Chapter Two’ screenwriter details potential Pennywise spin-off and deleted scenes “supercut

I can see them shooting a movie that details the origins of It, titled “It Begins,” or something, just not sure how big of a market there is for that on the big screen... maybe they could do a Netflix series or TV series instead? Anyway, it sounds like the “supercut” version is already a done deal, but they haven’t shot the new scenes yet.

I know there are a lot of people obsessed with the clown, but I don't see how this would work.  To me the appeal of It is the Losers Club. The 7 kids/adults are what make the book/movies.  I'm here for the supercut though.

  20. It just looks like a depressing slog to me.  My sister-in-law and myself usually agree on most every movie, but when we both saw the trailer for this she looked at me and told me she thought it looked awesome and I looked at her and told her I thought it looked awful.  It seems people were either super pumped or were repelled on first sight.

  21. Has anyone else noticed there's a large amount of people who seem to be super into the clown? Am I the only one who really has no interest in that part at all and mostly enjoyed the book/miniseries/both new movies because of the friendship between the 7 losers? Like for me those little side excursions of us watching Pennywise killing those two random kids took away time they could have used to develop the adult losers bond more.  Yet when I read other reviews/thoughts, people seemed to love those two scenes the most.

I saw this on Friday night. I was a bit confused by the Beverly/Mrs. Kersh scene, because I had seen it or something very like it before. It couldn't have been a replay from the first movie, could it? Was there maybe a scene in a film or TV show that was very similar? I did watch Castle Rock last year...but that was before this movie came out, could that series really have done a homage when the movie wasn't even out yet?

I don't typically watch extended trailers, and I wouldn't have done so for this movie.

Did you see the 1990 mini series? Because Beverly goes to her old home and talks to an old lady, same sorta tea scene too.
