Nice that Eteri puts a self portrait on her skater's costumes, in case they forget that she's standing and watching across the rink.

How can they forget, I'm sure the burning sensation from her eyes can be felt everywhere on the rink.

I agree about Kamila's long program. I liked her short program but the long program is completely disconnected from the music and doesn't flow well at all.

Slightly off topic, but what is it with the Jurassic Park crossover promotion that’s implying there are dinosaurs in China?

    Lol. Yay for corporate synergy!

Yeah, the competition was kind of boring and lackluster overall. Not a lot of energy, maybe they’re saving the good music and such for later?

Are you saying there aren’t dinosaurs in China? Darn it .

I know I would enjoy “skiing as velociraptors are chasing you” as an event. Or “bobsledding as a T-rex attempts to eat you.”

  3. I thought Snape was a wonderfully complex character. Yes he was a hero. He was also a bullying jackass. The two apparently are not mutually exclusive.

Re: Hermione wiping her parents’ memories was absolutely horrifying. But it showed the lengths she was willing to go to to end Voldemort and his supporters. She was the muggleborn and so had a lot at stake in the outcome of the war.

  4. I'll be up getting the kids ready for school so I might watch the ceremony live (it's at 6:30 a.m. so if I snarl at the TV about how ugly the uniforms for the Opening Ceremony look, it's because I haven't had any coffee yet). I am interested to see how they handle everything on Peacock. For the Summer Games the NBC Sports app was really good so hopefully Peacock isn't total trash.

  5. Aha! So it's that time again.

Time to check on Tessa and Scott's basement children. How are they doing? Has anyone checked on them lately?

My daughter is HUGE into figure skating now even though she has not been trapped in the basement as a secret love child. She's been taking lessons, her crossover is improving every day. We watched the US championships and she is super excited for the Olympics.

I also no longer like bleak shows. Things like Succession, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, all these well made, highly acclaimed shows are just a hard pass for me. I have gotten to a point where I want my entertainment to be fun. Every once in a while I can use a good tearjerker, but shows about terrible people or good people put into terrible situations do nothing for me anymore.

I tried Succession and it is so.fucking.depressing. I watched a couple episodes and that was it, like everyone on this show is completely hateworthy and not even in a fun way. The acting and writing are top notch but good God I get enough family dysfunction in my real-life relationship with my mother, thanks.

  7. That finale was great and Hawkeye is officially my favorite of the Disney+ shows. They managed to strike just the right balance between cheesy comedy, action, emotional scenes (Kate and her mom, Yelena and Clint). And I loved the Tracksuits and the LARPers. Were they over the top? Sure, but they were also humanized, and it was great that the LARPers became an actual part of the story rather than just being a running nerd joke or a throwaway bit.

I may have awwed a bit when Clint brought Kate and Lucky home for Christmas. Loved that Laura gave her a hug right away and welcomed her to the family. It would be great to see Laura in future projects as the show implied her to be a SHIELD agent (Agent 19, I guess). That's the kind of open-ended thread I can get behind.

My only gripe is that if Vincent D'onofrio is dead, holy crap what a waste to hype up his return only to have him killed in one episode.

This show was notably a more heartfelt eulogy for Natasha than the Black Widow movie was.

  8. Genuinely the most fun I've ever had in a movie theater, and a true reminder of what we miss when we stream everything at home on Disney Plus and HBO Max. People gasped and clapped and cheered at the villains, at Andrew and Tobey, at all of it. And it was actually a good movie too, it ranks up there as one of my favorite Marvel movies.

  9. Yelena/Kate is my new favorite interaction. I love it. I really do hope we see them together in a future project. Actually I want to see them doing touristy stuff around New York together, like walking on the Brooklyn Bridge and then going for pizza at Grimaldi's.

I suspected Eleanor was a bad guy. I knew it the minute Kate told her about the shell company.

  10. I love Kate. She's just so upbeat and fun. I loved her going over to Clint's with all the Christmas stuff, making friends with the LARPers. She looked like a kicked puppy when Clint told her they were never partners and to go home, and I wanted to give her a hug.

    Yelena! Yay!

I continue to really enjoy the Tracksuit Mafia goons, they can be somewhat of a threat but are also quite funny. I especially loved when Kate was giving the one goon some legit romantic advice. "Brightside, you don't have to see Imagine Dragons." "I LOVE Imagine Dragons." Truly the most relatable mobsters.

Totally relatable. He bought the tickets ostensibly for his girlfriend but actually for himself because she doesn't like Imagine Dragons but he does. And now she's keeping the tickets for herself and her sister, dammit!

  12. I just finished Karen McManus' new one, You'll Be The Death of Me. It was all right, definitely not as good as One of Us is Lying or Two Can Keep a Secret. She's definitely still following her formula though. Some of the plot points were bizarre and kind of went nowhere. Also sometimes it felt more like a middle grade than a real YA novel due to A Message in the book.
