Man, it's a bad week to start working on some healthier eating habits...three days of lots of veggies and whole grains and I was drooling over every single one of those sausage dishes.  I went to sleep with images of dancing sausages in my head!

I hail from the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, home of the Iron Pigs minor league baseball team.  The team's name is an homage to our region's steelmaking roots (pig iron is used in making steel), but the team leans into the "pig" part.  The team mascots are pigs named Ferrous (get it?) and FeFe (eh? eh??), and our racers are Chris P. Bacon, Hambone, Ribbie, Barbie Q, and Diggity (a hot dog).

This was a fun challenge.  The concept was clear, the food looked delicious, the chefs were getting along, and it seemed like everyone was having a great time.

Gotta love the bacon hat for them!

  2. It's a race to see what craps out first, Jax's liver or Jax's marriage.

Knowing Jax it'll be a tie since he can't commit to anything....

  3. Overall, the cooking seemed better this week but then we have two of whom I think are the strongest performers in the bottom and losing Rasika.

    This season is just weird.

  4. The quickfire cooking seems to be decent but something seems to happen to a lot of the contestants after that.  A fear of losing seems to be getting more prevalent as the season goes on.  I'm hoping after restaurant wars things will loosen up with them.

That being said I really liked how her team seemed to want to protect Amanda when she was too ill to attend.  Nice short, terse answers with no room for drama, "She's under the weather, being attended to, she'll be fine".  Good for them.

Shanice seems fun, at least! I loved her and Nick eating those chips while everyone else was immersed in the drama. And she had her own moment of (understandable) tears later in the episode, but got over it fast.

I'm actually loving this season. I wish more people were watching and talking about it.

I also loved how they seemed to have to talk each other into putting down the chips to go and get involved.

Agreed-I don't miss the drama whores and villains, but I do miss the genius creations and so far we have seen very little. I hope that it is just a case of playing it a little safe until the field gets narrowed/saving your best for the end, but so far it is a case of basic dishes solidly prepared, but nothing special or inventive.

There is usually some arm-wrestling at checkout to see what needs to be put back and the least creative/most insecure chef usually insists on keeping their "stuff" and looks like that was the case here.

By the way, funnies part of this is that dessert is not traditionally a big deal at the classic Wisconsin/North Woods Supper Club maybe a little ice cream with chocolate sauce or a Pink Squirrel or other ice cream drink......and then another brandy old fashioned! The relish tray (what, no 3 Bean Salad or Merkt's cheese?????) is the deal, with the 1st brandy old fashioned.

I 'effin love a Pink Squirrel!

  7. I was getting all set to take umbrage at Soo's introduction to the season but if the cooking doesn't pick up in both thought and execution his addition is going to be more like a salvation.

  8. I'm hoping after both last weeks festival of croquettes and this weeks less than inspirational thought behind the dishes in thought and execution that the majority are trapped in a group think of take no risks and aim for the middle for the first third or half of the season as some sort of tactical move.

I don't believe that is the case but I am hoping.

    Wisconsin deserves better.....

  9. At this point in the season I did not anticipate feeling like Carl and Linds are the lucky ones, compared to Kyle and Amanda, for imploding their relationship in their own unique ways before they were married.

New York's Channel 7 Eyewitness News reported that Jerry, the Golden Bachelor and Teresa, his fiancée have decided to go their separate ways.  Stevie Wonder saw this coming.

I thought those two crazy kids with their already entrenched lives in different regions of the country had a chance........

And when Jo asked Schwartz if he was embarrassed by her, his "NO!" didn't seem at all convincing to me.  She deserves way better.

The fact that Schwartz would be embarrassed to be seen with anyone is a sign of how truly deluded he is.

Doesn't Katie have a fashion website called "Frumpy and Frowning"?

I hear this in the voice of Gil Chesterton saying, “romping with my school chums in the fens and spinneys...”

  13. I have plowed through a tray of fried cheese curds in a billion degree heat at Summerfest in Milwaukee and it is surprisingly easy with a cold Leinie's.

Of course that was when I was in college and my stomach was only in its early 20's.....
