There might be an official reason I haven't seen, but my first thought was that it was a way of her taking back control of the name that belongs to her. Personally I was in the camp that calling her Rachel as a dis was an asshole move, and think it's kind of awesome if she was like, "Oh yeah, you think you're clever calling me by my birth name? Suck on it."
But that's JMO/hope :)-

Great points. Also, I'm sure her building the sandwich shop added to all of that, between her standing on her own, as well as not being around as much.

He's done and moreso said some horrible things, but so have I 100%, and I've always had a soft spot for James. My girlfriend who's also a HUGE fan of the show bought me a Cameo from him and I know he got paid, but truly have to say that it made me so happy. He seemed seriously genuine. Pretty sure my friend who also struggles with addiction, as do I, mentioned that, and that my boyfriend died last year. He called me by my moniker that I have on here as well, and even said "It's not about the pasta; it's about YOU, Judi Sunshine." Said I was absolutely beautiful and an amazing writer and that he knew I had a difficult year -- "a VERY difficult year," he corrected it to, and said that I had big things -- "BIG things" coming up in life.
It was only a minute long, him walking down the street, and I know you have to give info and he maybe doesn't even know what I look like (I do okay but am not his type), and has probably not read my writing, but it meant so much to me. Both that my friend got it for me, would say those things herself ABOUT me, and that he truly seemed compassionate and genuine and encouraging. Others who don't even watch the show said he seemed very genuine.So I always liked him but now no matter what, I officially love him. Words can't express how much it cheered me up. No idea how many times I watched it.

Normally would agree and Raquel for sure has been uncool to Katie and Arianna, but IMO she owes Lala NOTHING when it comes to dudes. Lala slept with James while he was with Raquel and treated her like shit for years.

Started watching "Ginny and Georgia" and Sara Waisglass (Frankie from Degrassi!) refers to VPR with glee but also says that the show lost its way after everyone turned 30!

I know a lot of people did and am happy they had it, and I rode a LOT of public transportation pre-Internet and loved having magazines for the bus (books for trains). But I still only read it if there was nothing else.

WHOA!!! I just was watching a "New Adventures of Old Christine" where she very indignantly corrected someone on the name "Mervins." I'm from NY, now in Colorado, never have heard of it, now it's twice in 24 hours!!!

It started indoors and ended outdoors in the parking lot. Hair pulling fists flying all of it. Shooting that day was suspended for all of the cast and crew and they all had to come in early crack of dawn the next day to reshoot the scene.
I did Jennie Garth's workout video SO much and remember her saying her least favorite part of her body was her "tushy." I think she always looked great, but as someone the same age as The Gang with thick legs and an ass, it was always a source of self-consciousness for me, especially before thickness and especially asses were more prized like now. So I could see that being extra humiliating for her. I definitely would have been back when I was more self conscious about my butt.

Re: Dylan's not liking Kelly early on, I think one of the big things with them in the summer eps and then S3 was that Dylan started seeing Kelly's depth and vulnerability, and that she was also troubled, not just some shallow Plastic, before the Plastics existed.-

Ugh, I'm so sorry. The federal ban and legal issues truly rile me. Don't want to get in trouble for being OT, but I hope that changes for you. It truly is such a beautiful medicine and has come so far. And for the record I was SUPER against it until I was 27. I'm 46 now so also a '70s kid, though not indulging in cannabis then! :) But nothing in the world ever helped my stomach, and I felt like I was never going to lose the 30+ pounds I put on in just a few months in 2000. Till I started smoking and ate a fresh sweet potato and was like omg this is what food should taste like! Yes ice cream also tastes amazing and the munchies are real, but it totally changed my relationship with food, especially because one reason I kept eating such crap was my stomach issues.
To pull it back to the subject! I do get the concept of being fully sober, but it has definitely made me uncomfortable, how the VPR people conflate weed with alcohol. It's definitely a complex issue. But I've known SO many people, especially living in Colorado, who've been alcohol free for YEARS and years with the help of cannabis. And alcohol is so much more damaging, physically and mentally, IMO. So I hope that James manages to remain alcohol-free, not toss it all out the window because he sees it as all or nothing. Especially as he mourns the loss of his fiance <3
But I'm also one of the people with a soft spot for him. It's really amazing he went two years without alcohol, especially in that environment, and in his 20s. Hope he can continue, and I don't see being "California sober" as such a bad thing; I truly don't. In general I try not to judge, but I do hate what I've seen coke do to people, though again, everyone needs to make their personal choices. Just think he'd be just fine sticking with weed and shunning the rest. Complete sobriety just doesn't work for everyone. Not to say other issues shouldn't be addressed, for sure, and I think Raquel definitely made the right choice. I would just like to see more of a continued focus on his anger issues, less on trying to quit weed.-
