In the upcoming file, The Running Man, directed by Edgar Wright. Based on the novel by Stephen King. There was something like a previous adaptation, though it very little more than 'name only'. Funny thing, I rewatched that one recently. It hit closer to home than I remember from previous watches. Anyway, there's certainly room for a version that's closer to the original book.

There is no way in hell they're going to get away with the book ending, though. Hell to the no. I can't picture any movie studio wanting to distribute in North American signing off on

    Spoiler

the hero intentionally flying into a skyscraper to destroy it.

They did a fairly decent job with the world building so I think the idea of this could work.

Although I don't think it's an accident that this is getting "rebooted" now that Disney owns it. Disney is in a seriously desperate place. Hopefully they're smart and keep the budget low.

Does this mean Divergent is next? LOL

I believe that Blake is trying to do the same thing -- play Everett, play Bobby, and play Bobby pretending to be Everett, hence the seeming interest in Stephanie when Bobby seems to really want to be with Jada.  It's a good idea, and he's a capable enough actor to pull it off.  But he's got a way to go to reach Erika's level in doing so.  A long way.

I think Blake needs to bring the sassy flamboyance he bought to Purgatory Nick to one of the alters if he's really trying to go for it.

Anyway, thank god this Jude stuff is finally out in the open. Geez.

I kind of like to think that Art and Patrick reconcile, compare notes, realize just how cold and manipulative Tashi is, and kick her to the curb.  I question any affection she claims to have for either Art or Patrick.

I do think Art is going to divorce Tashi and probably never, under any circumstances, let their daughter go near a tennis court. (It seems kind of telling that you don't see the daughter in any of the audience scenes cheering on Daddy. Then again she couldn't be older than 5 or 6.)

I thought they did a really job with letting us know just how completely worn out Art is by 2019- the sequence of Art being stretched out and looked over and given every supplement known to man said a lot. Dude really was at the end of his career.

I saw some debate casting Zendaya as a 30+ mother, but she's 27 and I tend to doubt she'll look much different than she does now in her early 30s.

Pretty good film overall, I thought, with a legitimately great ending. It's fairly rare to see a movie end in such a sharp manner these days; that sort of conclusion is something I more associate with pre-1990s studio films.

The use of "Hot in Herre" as a marker of the mid-2000s was great.

What do they expect? They had to cast people who were playing teenagers and early 20-somethings for significant portions of the films. It's not like she's the overly young Lois Lane they casted for Superman Returns. They all pulled it off pretty well. And the characters are barely in their 30's- they're all 31. (Remember, it's 2019. I'm guessing it was set that year to avoid all COVID mentions.)

I loved the scene when Patrick shows up at Stanford while Art is practicing, when they were chasing each other.  Really, that's all you need to know how far back they go.

I kind of like that at the end, it's not about who wins- it's about playing a great game of tennis and those two men reconciling with each other, and Tashi being thrilled about those two things happening.

I like to think that Tashi and Art amicably divorce (because Art honestly deserves to be with someone who really loves him), she does attempt to coach Patrick until COVID derails everything, and then eventually she begins a tennis academy.

I don't want her daughter to have anything to do with tennis, though- could you just imagine? LOL

That wouldn't be farfetched considering he fathered Paige after he left his kids. Of course that was a wasted paternity reveal tbh.

Rafe and Gabi barely seem to even remember their ill-fated baby sister. LOL

Rather than de-aging Dario after he was aged up (and stuck with having a thing/marriage with Abby), they should make him a Hernandez cousin or another half-sibling from Rafe & Gabi's dad, or just make him Rafe long lost son.

Maybe he could be a son of Dario's or Arianna the First that we never knew about. Lindsey Hartley is old enough that she could have had a 20-something kid she gave up at birth.

Or we could simply decide that Daddy Hernandez was spreading his seed more than everyone thought he was.

I mean, I'm not opposed to this because Tripp is leaving and so far the only 20-something male left would be Johnny.

Gosh oh golly GEE, a teen summer storyline, be still my aching ass.  Teen storylines anymore seem to be written by an alien species who learned everything they know about teenagers from watching old 80's After School Specials with an episode or two of Saved By the Bell.  Now, if they want to bring back Eve Donovan and have her seduce the 30-something Tate, I'd be willing to see what it goes.

I think Ashley Puzemis does a pretty good job of taking what they're giving her and making Holly seem like an actual teenage girl who lives in 2024 (or is it 2025?), but New Tate has those "grown up child star" vibes where he can't really act like a relateable teenager because he never really was one.

I really, really hope they don't go the route of "Aaron tries to force himself on Sophie during Prom and Tate comes to the rescue." Please. That plot has been so overdone. I think I still have PSTD from Chase and Ciara.

EDIT: On the other hand though, rescuing Sophia WOULD give Tate a good reason to show off his karate skills, so maybe?

  9. I actually applaud this development because I am so sick of the never-ending "Kristen is obsessed with Brady storyline." I also kind of just enjoy that Alex likes to have his fun. It would be funny if Kristen transfers her obsessions to Alex, of all people. LOL

I actually kind of miss Dimitri but I doubt he's actually coming back.

I want to like this DID storyline but there's going to need to be a bit more development of how Bobby and Everett are different from each other.

It was an interesting movie, even if I thought it was going to be about the actual war, with some context given, rather than Lee’s story.

I kind of wonder if that's the reason why there's been a pretty tepid reaction to this movie. I think a lot of people were thinking it was going to be an actual war movie, instead of what you actually get. I don't know though, I like that we get to breathe for stretches of the movie and that it's not a constant war movie like Dunkirk.

JKJ as Phil was 22 playing 15 in 99. The other main four were either really teenagers Kirsten and Farah both being 15 or on the edge of ending their teenage years Jason and Nadia who were both 19

Yeah, I'm wracking my brain and I can't think of anyone who was more than a couple of years out of their teens. Ashley Puzemis was 23 when she started playing Holly. Maybe that's why it's so jarring with New Tate.

That would be SO COOL! This show needs to make more use of its actors' skills for sure. Original Teen Claire was a decent singer/musician for example. I don't know they didn't give her more chances to do something with that.

Tate studying martian arts wouldn't even require a big expensive set. Lord knows we need someone to replace Steve and John in the Action Heroes department.

I get the reason why the show doesn't display singing chops as much as they did in the Last Chance Blast Days when they actually had the budget to license pop music, but yeah- it would be easy to let Tate show off his karate skills.

I still can't get over EJ jumping from a 2 year old to a 28-or-so year old in the span of what....less than a decade?

To put this in perspective, I was 11 years old in the summer of 1997. This is when Kristen was parading Baby EJ around as John's. By 2006, I was 20 years old and EJ was at least 26-27.

  14. With all the jokes about how old New Tate is, it makes me wonder- who was the oldest Salem "Teen"? Any guys over 30 playing a teen character? We did have a 29-year old Peter Reckell playing Bo, but his character was meant to be like 21 so he wouldn't count. I also don't think Austin was actually a teenager when he showed up, but early 20's. I could be wrong on Austin, though. But if I'm remembering right, he was a 21-year old hanging out with the teen characters, similar to Brady in the early 2000's.
