Yes! And with all the money these Southern Charmers have, why can't Katherine afford smudge proof, stain proof, bj proof lipstick. Did she buy it at Dollar General?

Why, she bought expensive makeup.  It just slid off that plastic face.

She stated that her profit would be $950 because her mortgage payment was $1500 and she could rent the house for $2500 which is a simplistic view of the actual costs of homeownership for a landlord since mortgage payments are a portion of the expenses she would have.

$300 a month for taxes, $100? a month for insurance PLUS lawn services ...

Tallahassee FL: I sure hope they did some research on educator salaries in Florida. A friend took a huge (I mean huge) pay cut moving south. Ten years later she still makes less than she did as a first year teacher in Michigan. You give up a lot for that sunshine because they do not pay or treat their educators well (principals included).  Heck, Tallahassee isn't even on the ocean!

Not only that, but they don't have the pensions of teachers in blue states.  The AVERAGE Florida teacher pension is $18,000!!!  In New York, it's nearly triple that!  No wonder there is a teacher shortage in Florida.

I don't think Willow Creek's story is documentary worthy but I'm wondering if there are similar parallels (on a lesser scale) to the Hillsong story.

Don't forget the Crystal Cathedral out in Orange County. In my experience, once a charismatic preacher dies and one of this children takes over, it's a family cult.

It is so difficult to believe a woman would send over a million dollars to someone she has never met.  She'd be better off just paying for dates by the week.  At least she'd get to really see them.

Unless these women are disguised, I don't know why some down-on-their-luck guys at church, or in their neighborhood, or on parole JUST DON'T DATE THEM.  They don't even have to steal their millions, just have her pay for their dinners, their cruises, their car repairs.  The women get what they need and the guys get needed income.  Cheaper than sending their retirement pay to Nigeria.

Congrats to Shoma. And Vincent... he's been through the ringer after the disaster of Covid in Beijing. So happy he medaled.

His interview with Andrea Joyce confirmed that!  He said he was ready to skip Worlds and never thought he'd win a medal.  He was definitely choked up.

it was upsetting to see some folks mugging for the camera while medics were on the ice checking out an injured skater.

I thought so too, but then I remembered that the commentators said she was sitting up.  The incident awhile ago that was so scary was that Russian pair that fell out of a lift.  Nobody mugged then!

  8. Gary is talented and smart, but dear God, get him a stylist!

I would be immediately turned off by his serial killer vibe, horrible yellow teeth and 1980 glasses that look like they are taped at the bridge.  Yuck.

New glasses and dental work would do wonders.

As an artist I’m sympathetic to the difficulty Gary has talking about his work. AND this is a challenge he should have resolved long ago. Artists need to be able to help the viewer see their work. They need to be able to articulate a path that helps the viewer enter into their vision. (This is grad school 101 stuff.)

He also needs to change his serial killer look.  Dear God, update those horrid glasses.  The thick nose bridge looks like masking tape.  And his TEETH.  I know dentistry is expensive, but he could at least use whitening strip.  I bet he has dandruff too.

Maybe he just triggers me.  He is every nerd guy I dated in the 1980s.

I don’t think I could watch Susie as the bachelorette with the amount of “ likes “ she says in one sentence .

But it does make for a great drinking game.

But as you said so perfectly, so much if these Games have felt 'rote and lifeless'  and I think that's what you get when you cave and give the Games to a repressive, militaristic country.

I blame COVID and its protocols.  No one made the "rote and lifeless" comment when Beijing hosted the 2008 summer games.

  12. OK, let me vent.  NBC, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

I vacationed over Valentine's weekend and set my DVR to record the ice dancing competition.  For some reason, the DVR didn't record them.  No problem, I thought.  I HAVE NBC BEIJING ON DEMAND and they have an entire category for Figure Skating.  I checked the end date:  3/30 so I had plenty of time to see them.  This morning, I got my coffee and watched Part 1 of the Rhythm Dance AND THEY HAVE DELETED PART 2 AND ALL OF THE FREE DANCE!!!!  Yet, NBC still has 142 listings of CURLING EVENTS!!  If anyone has cable with the On Demand, I would SO appreciate checking your Figure Skating listings to see if it is truly NBC or that awful Spectrum Cable that deleted it.  Heads will roll!!!

(So did the 13th-place Italian pairs team, and I don’t know what the hell that was about.)

Maybe they were there because Italy is hosting the next Winter Olympics?

Watching that replay of Tara’s reaction winning the Gold bring backs memories.  Not pleasant ones.  I thought she was way Over The Top back then and I still do. I know, she was just a kid, but she jumped up and down like a 4-year-old.

Sorry, but pure unadulterated joy is wonderful to behold!  We should all have more joy of 4-year-olds in our lives!

I remember skating exploding after Kristi won. There were multiple skating tours and all the pro competitions and shows were on tv for hours on the weekends. Figure skating was huge.  My niece was little & I took her to show after show. It was such a fun thing that we enjoyed together.  Even as a little kid she knew all the skaters & followed them on tv. She and I were just talking about it the other day, we can't remember when it dropped off.

I actually think the explosion actually started after Lillehammer in 1994, which was the best skating competition EVER. You had Nancy vs. Tonya, Gordeeva and Grinkov, Torvill and Dean, Katarina Witt, Brian Boitano, KURT BROWNING, Elvis ....   AND Scott Hamilton was still skating professionally!  It seemed like every week there was another pro competition.

It's inevitable that sports' popularity rises and falls on its stars.  Right now, the young girls I know are very interested in Cheer squads.  Trust me when I say that Cheering can be as expensive as the other "glamour" sports.

Gymnastics went through that cycle too.  After Olga and Nadia, there was a blip and then after MaryLou, another blip.  Then it was down again until the Karolyis took over.

Andrea Joyce is so annoying. Her asking Nathan if he's had a chance to celebrate his SP. Why would he celebrate? He still has one program to go. SMH

Uh, he broke the world record.  And he skated the program of a lifetime.  I think you should celebrate the little moments.  I remember when Katya Gordeeva said that after she and Sergei won their first gold medal, he wanted to go out drinking with his buddies and she wanted to go to bed.  So that's what they did.  How sad.

I am sure the russians (and johnny) are crafting a cover-up as we speak

Sorta like the US AND LANCE FRICKIN' ARMSTRONG.  I don't think Johnny will express anything but regret that we will not see Kamila in the long program.  The news reporters will cover this.

I like skating the most of any winter games events, but it pisses me off to no end when they show two or three skaters' programs and then cut to something else, only to say that they will be back later with the rest.  On the East coast, this means after 10 or even 11 pm.

I watched the entire men's short program in its entirety on Peacock and it is incredibly long and boring (3 hours+!)  Trust me, after you watch the second place skater from Slovenia and Micronesia with their lifeless performances, you appreciate the Top 10!  NBC has gotten criticism for delaying coverage, so their answer is, "Fine, we'll show you Brian Boitano who unfortunately drew the first place and skates at 8 pm but skip the unknown skaters until we get to the leaders at 10!"  They actually do less skipping around than at the last two Olympics.

There were a lot more jumps popping with the Americans and the Russians were doing competition ready run throughs of their programs.

Actually, the complaint in the past was that the RUSSIANS only did jump run-throughs and not entire programs so they got more tired than those who did the entire events.  Probably Eteri put a stop to that.

And NBC wonders why viewership is down. Coverage on the broadcast network is crap and a lot of people don't want to shell out money for their streaming platform.

No, it doesn't wonder why viewership is down.  Some longtime viewers are boycotting over Chinese politics, others don't like the time difference and having to stay up until midnight to see the finals.  The Olympics also aren't the big deal they used to be when the plucky, poor Americans were the underdogs to the rich, professional Russians.

The coverage is better than it has been.  I don't mind Johnny and Tara one bit and neither do the CASUAL VIEWERS. They at least shut up during the ice dancing performances and they don't prattle on about the costumes like Peggy Fleming did.  What I personally dislike is the American-centric coverage as if only FIVE AMERICANS are competing.  I used to love the old days of ABC and CBS when we got interviews with Swiss archers and barefoot Kenyans.
