Advance35 March 15, 2016 Share March 15, 2016 (edited) One thing I think this show has done better then a majority of the other Marvel Properties, is make me care about the characters it's introduced me to. Peggy Carter is amazing. I think the character is well-rounded with flaws and virtues in equal measure. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I liked her in CA:TFA but Agent Carter has really made me see why in 2016, Steve Rogers is still hung up on Peggy Carter. He doesn't worship her but he knows she's a special person and I think it's a little more difficult for him not to ruminate on "What might have been." I think Jack Thompson turned into a wonderful character during the course of the show. He believed in shortcuts and leapfrogging (or stepping) on others to get ahead and climb the latter but he was no supervillain. Just a cut-throat ambitious guy who at the end of the day, WAS on the side of good when pitted against evil. He was a great foil to Peggy and Sousa because he would do things in service to the cause that they wouldn't. He was willing to kill Wilks if it would take out Whitney Frost as well, while Peggy and Sousa were much more bleeding heart about the collateral. While I suspect he had an unspoken attraction to Peggy (maybe just the way CMM played it) I liked that they eventually evolved into Colleagues that respected each other. And in the end I think he grew to like and care about Peggy (who wouldn't). I can't forget his chorusing with Sousa in "Monsters" with his "Do as Peggy says" lol. I wish he had come to a better end but a great showing and contribution to the extended MCU. Whitney Frost was an awesome villain. People have said "I've made it this far and I'm never going back" and that summed up Whitney only in terms of Power. I like that we got to understand why she became who she was. Her scenes in "Smoke and Mirrors" were so poignant and heartbreaking in a quiet way. Her scene outside of the movie theatre when she was telling the ticket taker she comes to the movies because for 2 hours she can escape her reality was one of the saddest things in the MCU to me. And when that talent scout said she would be beautiful if she "smiled", the moment Whitney smiled, I swear I think I felt my heart crack a little. Such a compelling villain. I felt for her even when she got her comeuppance. And that's something the MCU struggles with, I love Loki but I'm also over him and I feel like the movies sell him to me as an Anti-Hero on occasion. I think a villain can be sympathetic and someone we understand but still be on the side of Hell's Angels. Whitney and Dottie show this. Dottie Underwood. The First Black Widow. She's evil, coldhearted, resourceful, inventive, she's the anti-Peggy Carter who I love to hate and hate to love at the same time. Her role in "Life of the Party" allowed her to be both lethal and laugh out loud funny. When Peggy put the tracking necklace on her and Dottie said "Thank you, I hope to return the favor with a choker of my own someday" I couldn't stop laughing. And while she can be hysterical it's never forgotten that at heart, she is a villain. She directly murdered Ray Kirzminski, she had no problem aiding that Doctor that murdered (or might as well have) Chief Dooley and released that lethal gas on a movie theatre full of civilians. The show acknowledges that her past is horrific "I've torn out my own hair, my own finger nails and teeth" but doesn't let it excuse the horrid things she's done. Mr. Jarvis. OMG what can you say about Jarvis. Hysterical, heroic, a genuine friend. I am very curious about his future. He and Howard seem to be very forthright with each other so I find it hard to believe he would let Howard and Tony become so distant with each other. And I can only imagine Tony driving Jarvis crazy growing up but Jarvis is clearly someone Tony deeply loved (the Ironman and Avengers movies clearly show this). His wife is his match in everyway. They've been through a lot and (this season) lost a lot but they never let that harden them or make them bitter. Jarvis, like Ana, has a truly warm heart And I've come to love them both dearly. Not an official Avenger in sight but I feel like I'm watching the age of heroes when I watch this show set in the 1940's. The villains are just as compelling as the heroes in some respects. More so then their big screen counterparts IMO. And I got tired of typing but there is so much that can be discussed and dissected about all these characters and their relationships with each other. I didn't list them all but I honestly love them all on one level or another. Edited March 16, 2016 by Advance35 4 Link to comment
