ToxicUnicorn May 7, 2015 Share May 7, 2015 Would a movie have done better if it had a catchier name? Did a title ever completely mislead you? Could you have done better renaming a sequel? Or, have you ever wondered, "what the hell were they thinking" or "that would attract exactly no one" when you saw a film that you missed listed somewhere? My proposal is in the last category. I just found a 2000 movie title starring, evidently, Kenneth Branagh and Robin Wright Penn. (Two actors I've enjoyed.) However, the title was: How to Kill Your Neighbor's Dog. Couldn't they have channeled Dr. Seuss and named it, "Die, Dog, Die?" Link to comment
magicdog May 7, 2015 Share May 7, 2015 This title change would have to go with a movie that could have been something special. The Monkees had a film called, "Head" (1968). I had mentioned in a different thread how the vignette style of the film was all wrong (not to mention being inspired by smoking pot one weekend) and the title itself was too avant guard for their younger fans. If they had gone with a more conventional storyline it likely would have done better box office and alienated fewer people. I would have titled it "The Monkees Save The World". I also mused over their film being spoofs of the Beatles films so they could have titled it, "The Monkees Have Help on a Hard Day's Night during a Magical Mystery Tour In a Yellow Submarine". I also hate films that are given titles from their main soundtrack song (which were not specially written for the film). That leaves us with films like "Something To Talk About", which I would have renamed, "Cheated". Link to comment
raezen May 8, 2015 Share May 8, 2015 I like the title Something to Talk About. Small town gossip and keeping up appearances was a big focus in that film. I think that Julia Roberts movie Sleeping with the Enemy could have used a name change seeing as she spends a lot of that movie on the run from said enemy. Link to comment
Joe December 29, 2018 Share December 29, 2018 A list of alternate names for American Graffiti has surfaced. Some aren't bad, like Summer Blood or The Frantic Heart. But there are too many Burger City/Make-Out variations IMO. Just plain Make-Out is used twice. The Fast and the Deadly doesn't really have that snap. Rebus is an odd choice. Maybe it'd make sense if I actually saw the movie. One day, I swear. Link to comment
