I don't believe that except me someone else take a look at this series. She's already been 9 years. Anyway, I discover Martha Bullock, here played by Anna Gunn, that I for the first time ever in "breaking bad" seen. And what I then thought about person and role will be confirmed here. Her name should be better "Anna Gone" are.

I am watching the series on Amazon. Bingewatching. So I'm a year late to the party. I think Martha is a wonderful character, beautifully played by Anna Gunn. She certainly complicated my view of Seth- I wanted to shake him hard for his stupid decision to carry on with Alma Garrett  before Martha got to Deadwood. I hadn't realized that the whole affair and the character of Alma Garret for that matter was a fiction. The real Martha and Seth were childhood sweethearts with a long and reputedly very happy marriage- no hint of cheating or settling for second best. This whole marrying his brother's widow is made up. I imagine it's to add drama to the love interest- it would be very sad to have Timothy Olyphant on screen without the hint of a romance plot. It's conventional to believe romance with a wife is impossible. Hence Alma.

So all of this made Martha an especially interesting character, and she continues to have possibilities if the movie gets made. The real Martha brought art and culture to Deadwood, started the public library, etc. It would have been fun to see the series go beyond those teaching episodes to show what she was capable of doing in future.

Ann Gunn describe the theme as it was conveyed to her when she was in negotiation for the role: the story of Martha and Seth is the story of a man falling slowly in love with his wife. Would have been good to see that developed further.

I'm addicted to the series and find Martha very intriguing. I'm very disappointed her story gets no resolution. I hope they give her a central role if we do get the movie.
