ToxicUnicorn January 6, 2015 Share January 6, 2015 "With his lead dwindling, Royce resorts to extreme measures to stall Carcetti's momentum. At Bodie's corner, Michael proves adept as a runner, with Bodie and Marlo taking notice. A re-up bodega is put under surveillance by Omar and Greggs." I don't like this episode description (taken from Amazon) at all. What mattered most to me was the kids' and Prez's first day of school. Prezbo! I love this character in this situation. This was my favorite episode since Season 2's finale. So much was done well - glimpses of all the different characters, the real-ness of the kids in school versus Bodie on the corner, the comedy of the academic researcher teaming up with Bunny Colvin and of Omar walking the streets in his silk pajama and robe, watching the Major Crimes people scramble for other placements as a result of the politics plot moving forward, catching up with McNulty and Beadie - this seemed extremely well written. For the first time in a long while, I loved the episode from top to bottom. Link to comment
Jordan Baker March 26, 2015 Share March 26, 2015 I am way behind in my Wire viewing. DH and I finally watched this episode last night. I agree that it was extremely well written. BUT . . . it also made me so uncomfortable. I'm wondering just how bleak this season is going to be. DH worked in the school system for a long time and said that he was feeling some PTSD after watching the episode. I was just cringing for Prez but also for the kids. That poor little boy (I can't remember his name) just breaks my heart. When he gave his fan--his prize possession, which he'd found on the street--to the girl who sliced up her tormentor . . . argh. Heartbreaking on so many levels. This is going to be the toughest season yet, I fear. 1 Link to comment
ToxicUnicorn March 26, 2015 Author Share March 26, 2015 Jordan Baker, the season mixes bleak and heartwarming in a way that the show hadn't done up till then. Powerful stuff, yes, but I wouldn't be deterred from watching because you worry it will be too dark. As for your DH, I can't say. But more power to him. 1 Link to comment
