Synopsis: Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, based on the acclaimed iHeart true-crime podcast, follows the infamous story of how an armed robbery on the night of Muhammad Ali’s historic 1970 comeback fight changed not only one man’s life but ultimately transformed Atlanta into the “Black Mecca.” When a hustler named Chicken Man (Kevin Hart) hosts an afterparty to celebrate the fight with a guest list of the country’s wealthiest, the night ends with the most brazen criminal underworld heist in Atlanta’s history. Suspected of masterminding the crime, Chicken Man is hellbent on clearing his name but must convince his old adversary, J.D. Hudson (Don Cheadle), one of the first Black detectives in the city’s desegregated police force, who is tasked with bringing those responsible to justice.

Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist is an 8 episode TV Series streaming on September 5, 2024 on Peacock.

In Atlanta on the night of Ali’s defeat of Jerry Quarry, which came after he was banned from boxing for refusing to enter the military draft, hundreds of guests at an after-party were robbed at gunpoint, becoming one of the largest armed robberies the country has ever seen.

A hustler named Chicken Man was the host of this afterparty in celebration of this fight with a guest list of the country’s wealthiest, the night ends with the most brazen criminal underworld heist in Atlanta’s history. Suspected of masterminding the crime, Chicken Man is hellbent on clearing his name but first must convince his old adversary, J.D. Hudson, one of the first Black detectives in the city’s desegregated police force, tasked with bringing those responsible to justice.

Samuel L. Jackson lived in Atlanta, in the exact neighborhood, at the time when the robbery occurred and provided additional details to improve the authenticity.

If this story sounds familiar, the movie "Uptown Saturday Night" was loosely inspired by this incident.
