In Atlanta on the night of Ali’s defeat of Jerry Quarry, which came after he was banned from boxing for refusing to enter the military draft, hundreds of guests at an after-party were robbed at gunpoint, becoming one of the largest armed robberies the country has ever seen. A hustler named Chicken Man was the host of this afterparty in celebration of this fight with a guest list of the country’s wealthiest, the night ends with the most brazen criminal underworld heist in Atlanta’s history. Suspected of masterminding the crime, Chicken Man is hellbent on clearing his name but first must convince his old adversary, J.D. Hudson, one of the first Black detectives in the city’s desegregated police force, tasked with bringing those responsible to justice. Samuel L. Jackson lived in Atlanta, in the exact neighborhood, at the time when the robbery occurred and provided additional details to improve the authenticity.
