SoMuchTV March 13, 2023 Share March 13, 2023 I'm following the Podcast forum - https://forums.primetimer.com/forum/4288-podcasts/ - with the setting for "immediate notification". I am not getting any notifications at all when there's a new post or thread. I'm not sure I've ever gotten notifications for it, really, but it's more noticeable now since the recent updates. Before I could see if the Podcasts subforum showed up in bold on my home page, but now I have to expand the "Pop Culture" section, and when I remember to do that, I often see that "Podcasts" is in bold and has new activity that I didn't get a notification for. I've tried several iterations of unfollowing/refollowing but that hasn't changed anything. I do get notifications for other things in the Pop Culture category, like individual movies I follow. I wonder if it has to do with "Podcasts" not being the lowest level in the hierarchy...? I guess I could try following "Movies" and see if I get a notification when anyone posts in that subforum. Let me know if you want me to try that. Link to comment
Meredith Quill March 15, 2023 Share March 15, 2023 Yeah, that's likely the cause but it always helps to test the theory, please do! Link to comment
SoMuchTV March 16, 2023 Author Share March 16, 2023 (edited) Okay - I tried following "Movies" and it's behaving the same way. Both "Movies" and "Podcasts" are set for Instant Notifications. Both forums have had new posts since I added the Follow, but I've gotten no notifications on them. Normally I follow Forums without notifications, because they show up on my home page, and individual threads with notifications, so I'll know when there are new posts. I'm guessing maybe following doesn't work as advertised for those two because they're forums (not threads) within forums...? This wouldn't be an issue if there were a way to display the subforums under "Beyond TV Shows" expanded by default (or by user setting) - like it was until this newest theme update. If I could do that, I'd be able to see the categories within "Pop Culture" and I'd know if the ones I'm interested were in bold, and wouldn't need notifications. It seems like there was some mention of this early on with the new theme but there were bigger bugs/adjustments to address first. Any chance that adjustment might still be on the to-do list? Meredith Quill March 17, 2023 Share March 17, 2023 Apologies, I won't have time today after all, and busy weekend ahoy = will check back on Monday. Link to comment
SoMuchTV March 17, 2023 Author Share March 17, 2023 No problem. It’s probably a developer question one way or the other. Let me know if you need more info. Link to comment
SoMuchTV March 19, 2023 Author Share March 19, 2023 More info... Now that I've requested notifications on "Movies" I've gotten a couple of notifications. It looks like I get a notification when someone adds a new topic within "Movies" but not when someone replies to an existing one. That may be what's happening in "Podcasts" as well but there's not enough activity there to tell. Ideally I'd like a way to either 1) get notified when there in any activity within "Podcasts" whether it's new topics or posts on existing ones (not sure if the behavior I'm seeing now is a bug or how it's supposed to work), or 2) be able to see on my home screen when there are new posts in the "Beyond TV Shows" subcategories (in other words, expand the categories like they were in prior themes, so I could see if the category I'm interested in is in bold without having to click through two more levels.) 1 Link to comment

I've followed the podcast forum just now to see if I can reproduce this issue - standby for scientifically approved test results 2. Not currently an option as it stands Link to comment

I just posted a reply to an existing thread under Podcasts. Let's see if you get a notification. Link to comment
Meredith Quill March 29, 2023 Share March 29, 2023 @SoMuchTV I didn't get a notification, however, can you create a test topic and do another test reply in an existing one as well please and thanks. Link to comment
SoMuchTV March 29, 2023 Author Share March 29, 2023 Done. And by the way, just a few minutes ago someone else replied to an existing topic and I didn't get a notification. Also when I look at my followed content, I see notifications for new topics but not new posts to existing ones. Link to comment
Meredith Quill March 29, 2023 Share March 29, 2023 I posted a test topic, did you get a notification? I replied to your post, did you get a notification? Do you follow any other forums in the Pop Culture area aside from Podcasts & Movies? Link to comment

No - and I'm really only following Movies to test out whether it has the same issues as Podcasts. (So far evidence says it does.) 1 minute ago, SoMuchTV said: No - and I'm really only following Movies to test out whether it has the same issues as Podcasts. (So far evidence says it does.) I take that back. I'm also following "Online". There's very little activity there, but now that I think about it, I don't remember getting notifications for it either. 1 Link to comment
Meredith Quill March 29, 2023 Share March 29, 2023 Ok, so here's the deal - because that area isn't indexed, you will receive notifications for new topics posted in each forum you follow but not new posts... the (admittedly not-user friendly) solution? You need to follow each topic within any of those forums to get notified for new content in each topic that you're interested in. Link to comment
SoMuchTV March 29, 2023 Author Share March 29, 2023 I was starting to suspect that was the case! Although, I didn't get a notification for the new topic you started in "Podcasts" a little bit ago, which isn't consistent with how "Movies" is behaving. I'll play around with following individual topics. That's actually what I do in "Movies" for the ones I'm most interested in. Thanks. Link to comment

Yep, did that (& unfollowed/refollowed) multiple times before I even posted about it. Bottom line, I just have to remember to expand "Pop Culture" once in a while to see if there's new activity in the forums I'm interested in. Hope you have better luck with your other bug-swatting today! 1 Link to comment
