Frost February 3, 2023 Author Share February 3, 2023 I was intrigued by the TV ads I've been seeing for Vesper so I watched it last night. It's a beautifully shot film and Raffiella Chapman is wonderful as Vesper. The ads are misleading though. This is not a rebel against the empire kind of movie. It's a very personal story which has an element of "savior" to it, but I don't think that was the main focus at all. The world building was well done overall, but some things really didn't make sense to me. I would have liked more backstory on her father and Uncle Jonas. How was Vesper as educated as she was? Why were the jugs created to feel pain at all? If their purpose was to be lab created semi-intelligent workers, why add in pain receptors? Why would Jonas eat jugs but not humans? If food is that desperate, cannibalism doesn't seem that far fetched. And why were the Pilgrims so intent on hauling metal to their camp if their huge tower is completely made out of wood? I like movies that leave me thinking after they're over. There were just enough gaps in this one to make me a bit annoyed with the story telling. Link to comment
