Encounter is a 2021 drama thriller film, directed by Michael Pearce from a screenplay by Pearce and Joe Barton. It stars Riz Ahmed, Octavia Spencer, Janina Gavankar, Rory Cochrane, Lucian-River Chauhan, and Aditya Geddada.

A decorated Marine goes on a rescue mission to save his two young sons from a mysterious threat. As their journey takes them in increasingly dangerous directions, the boys will need to leave their childhoods behind.

So, Riz Ahmed, Octavia Spencer, so gonna watch that!

It starts out really, really good and Riz is fantastic, so are the two children, and I usually find child actors to be terrible.

Then we get to the

white supremacist and citizens arrest 

And it all goes to hell.

While there is an important story to be told about 

Spoiler

white supremacists, these ridiculous citizens' arrests, and society

this was not that movie. This was working for me when it was about Malik (Riz), his relationship with his children, his desire to protect his children, and his understanding of himself. 

The ending was very heavy-handed though.
