wingster55 July 19, 2014 Share July 19, 2014 I've read both her novels (and only one of her short stories), and really enjoyed them both. The Lowland was a bit depressing at times though. Anyone else? Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/11261-jhumpa-lahiri/
halgia July 19, 2014 Share July 19, 2014 I haven't read The Lowland yet, but I've read The Namesake and both the short story collections. I really like them, but in the second collection in particular I felt like she could have expanded her range a bit: IIRC, there was one narrator in the collection who wasn't an affluent Bengali-American who went to an Ivy League school and probably was an alcoholic academic, and that one was an affluent Bengali-American who went to Swarthmore and was an alcoholic. That said, within that limited world she's got everything down pat. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/11261-jhumpa-lahiri/#findComment-213655
wingster55 July 19, 2014 Author Share July 19, 2014 She does limit herself to the Bengali-American "theme", but as a first generation Indian born in America I can relate to it which may help me appreciate it better. moonb August 6, 2014 Share August 6, 2014 The Namesake is by far my favorite of the three of her works I've read. I haven't read The Lowland yet, however. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/11261-jhumpa-lahiri/#findComment-266929
