  1. I don't know what it is about this season, but I find my interest really waning.  I think it's the contestants; I don't find any of them truly engaging, and while a few are some what likable, I don't find myself actively rooting for them.

I don't know what it is about the race car driver, to me he comes across as smarmy and a bit creepy.  I haven't enjoyed any of his dances nor do I like the person that is presented in the pre-dance packages.

Most of the dances were extremely underwhelming; also I think we can see who the powers that be want in the show based on who "won" the immunity (the exception being Maureen who I thought was vastly stronger (both in content and technique) than Amber Rose (which is a shame because she is such a lovely person).  And as an aside, how adorable was her outfit; sassy, lots of movement, and a gorgeous color.; I thought Maureen looked stunning last night and the most relaxed and comfortable since the competition began.

I 'm glad that Amber Rose finally appeared to enjoy herself in a routine; too bad the routine was not very good (I blame Maks).

I loved Emma's dress - hated her routine.  I don't remember either of the Paso Doble routines.

I think Allison and Gleb let their celebrity partner down with terrible choreography; and what the heck was Jana wearing on her feet?  Those shoes made her look downright clunky (the rest of the outfit was adorable).

Did either male perform any Cha Cha Cha?  It looked like a lot of twirling, posing, and hip shaking by Sharna and Cheryl and very little actual dance by the men.  Color me surprised that race car drive beat swimmer.  NOT!!

I thought Terra's waltz was lovely; I especially thought the parts where Sasha leaned town so their foreheads were touching was especially effective.  Calvin's dance appeared to be a bit more dramatic and flashy and I didn't enjoy it as much as I did Terra's (which I thought had a nice blend of content, flow, and just a little vulnerability).

The two tangos were the strongest dances of an overall weak night.  I'm glad that Lori was able to channel her "serious" side and thought she did well enough.  I really liked Derek's choreography more than I did Val's.  And holy cow, that opening move by Marilu!

It's a difficult film to edit a trailer for as you don't want to give away the twist.

The trailer pretty much gave it away (to anyone who was paying attention that is); two friends who saw trailer and had no knowledge of the reference material or plot (or that there was even a movie with Pratt and Lawrence) turned to me and said

    Spoiler

he woke them up, didn't he?

Continuing my Marvel theme:  As much as I enjoy Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the one scene I wait for is when Maria Hill shows up in the van.

"Who's this guy?" cracks me up every time.

I never liked Colbie Smulders on How I Met Your Mother, but I adore her as Maria Hill.

I also have terrible problems with dark circles, but there's no way I can afford $70 for concealer.  Does anyone know of something maybe under $30 which might work well?

Have you tried NYX concealers?  I find their products work well and are extremely reasonably priced.  You can find their products in some Target, CVS Pharmacy, and Ulta locations; they also have stores in some malls.

  5. Thanks to a BookBub find I picked up The Red Knight (for a whopping 99-cents) a few weeks ago and just now settled in to read it.  I'm only a 100-pages in, but so far I like it; I especially like world building (which is a pseudo medieval society, complete with Crusaders and magic).

After that I have the first Detective Lavender book, The Heiress of Linn Hagh - it's a regency era mystery - and comes highly recommended by several people based on my enjoyment of the Sebastian St. Cyr books by C.S. Harris (books that I describe as Mr. Bond meets Mr. Darcy).

I read that a few months ago and I really liked it and now I keep meaning to watch the movie.

Right now, I'm reading The Gaslight Dogs by Karin Lowachee which is a sort-of-steampunk fantasy with Inuit influences.  It was slow to start but I'm liking it so far.

Ooooh, this sounds good - and I am always on the hunt for good steampunky type books.

  6. All the Marvel movies have some amazing fight choreography, but it seems that the best have been in the Captain America movies.  I know it's a television show, but Netflix's Daredevil has some amazing fight sequences.

And how can one discuss fight scenes without mention The Forbidden Kingdom's fight between Jackie Chan and Jet Li.

What's the name? I have been on the lookout for a good drugstore liner for the waterline so this has me curious.

NYX Retractable Eye Liner; you can find the brand at some CVS stores as well as some Ulta shops.  They also have stores in several malls, and of course you can order via their website.  I really like the eye liners and eye shadows; I find they work well, having good staying power, and are very reasonably priced.

  8. I recently received some NYX liner crayons and they work really well for the inner rims of my eyes; glides on easily (I do warm up on the back of my hand with a few swipes first) so there is no tugging, color is pretty saturated, lasts all day, and no irritation. I like mixing the colors, using black for the tightline and then a color for the upper lid (near the lash line) and the waterline which really plays ups the color in my eyes (which are hazel and range from green to blueish grey).

  9. The only way I would like to see a Black Widow film (frankly, I find her character rather boring and Scarlett Johansson weak when given leading roles; she's perfectly fine as a supporting actor/character) is if they managed to have her team up with Bucky as they did in the comics (when they were hunting down Hydra sleeper operatives).

I can't wait to see The Magnificent Seven. I'm not a huge fan of reboots, but Denzel Washington in a Western? In the words of Chris's friend Greg, I'm so in there.

The cast for the Magnificent Seven is great -- it's the writing team that gives me pause.

  11. I rather enjoyed Ben Affleck's take on Batman, for me it worked in the universe presented to us in the movie.  If it weren't for the awesome appearance of Wonder Woman during the fight sequence, Affleck would have been my favorite part of the Batman V Superman movie.

I like the sardonic, world weary, I'm just beginning to hope again, come join our team glimpse of Bruce Wayne in the trailer; and I think Affleck has great chemistry with Gal Gadot.  I'm still not 100% sold on the film yet, but the tone of this trailer makes me somewhat optimistic for this film.
