Greetings All! I have been reading (and rereading) your posts over the years and have just rewatched almost the entirety of The Americans (yet again!!) whilst experiencing my first bout of Covid.
Roseanna, your synopsis of Ratakatu 12 was truly fascinating (as are the other real world examples and insights you have posted over the years)! Andy73, your rewatch observations have been great additions to this rich and wonderful thread. (The icicles and the "I hide what I do, not what I am" line from the captured agent, Yossi, along with Anton Baklanov's agonized accusations that Phillip is not human are all such powerful prelude to so much of what we will see unfold for Phillip).
And, sistermagpie, WOW! I do not have words enough to thank you for the joy and reflection and awe your wonderfully insightful and detailed episode reflections have been for me!! I finally sat down and set up an account to give you a long overdue thanks!!!!
Finally, I feel like you are the only people who might possibly appreciate my delight at this random sighting of Evignia from Season 5. I took a break from The Americans viewing last night and fell down a You Tube rabbit hole about the Russian figure skaters and then clicked on Michelle Khare's video about training like a figure skater. And that got me to her ballet training video. There was a former dancer who would give some historical background and general insights about this art form. At first I thought, wow, it's funny how an accent can really make people sound so similar to each other--she sounds just like Evignia. Then it struck me that she also looks quite remarkably like Evignia. And when my Covid addled brain finally thought of it, I looked into the name, and it is none other than Irina Dvorovenko! I was quite thrilled! (I'm an old--is it ok to post a YouTube link? Will refrain lest my first post be a big old faux pas).
Anyway, I so appreciate what an amazing thread this is and really thank all of you for your contributions to it!!!!!!
