Pretty sure this was taped like 1.5 years ago, right?  And that was just one of the things I didn’t like about it.

That was the good thing about it - Alyssa and Flex were there pre-injuries that kept them out of this past season and the next one.

  2. I skipped the auditions and just started watching with the live shows.  (Anything I really need to go back and see? I assume not :) )

Woof, this season is just dire. Both the acts and the overall production values  have really declined (and they weren't exactly great the last two years, either). Even ditching the old theme song is a miss (it was no "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" but it's hella better than what they're doing now out of breaks). They've even made me sick of Light Balance.

What the hell was that with Terry and Craig Robinson singing along with a full (and overpowering) vocal track of Vanessa Carlton last week? Like seriously, who greenlit that?

Murmuration was pretty good and clearly the class of the night, but even they feel like a poor man's Mayyas.

Every kid act has been a really tough watch. I felt my soul leave my body during the ventriloquist and magician kids' acts.

  3. FOX is insane. Why in blazes would we have the first episode of the actual competition tonight, then follow it up with two weeks of reruns of the auditions we all just suffered through  (assuming thefutoncritic's info is right, which it usually is)?!

  4. Just got caught up! Hooray Charyia! Such a good cook and such a delightful character.  I would've thoroughly understood an Anurag win as well.

Also, Clare Smyth's dessert looks amaaazing. Out of my budget, though :D

I don’t know if this belongs here but…I was in London last month and saw a stage play called The Great British Bake Off Musical. It was cute. They had look a like actors for Paul and Prue. Anyone heard of or seen this?

Same here! Saw it April 20th. Silly in parts, twee in others and extremely British in the little asides they threw into the dialogue. It was great fun.

I had also seen The Mousetrap earlier in the day, so it was the most British day ever haha.

OMG! What a treat of a lifetime! Thank you for the pics. Looks incredible. And belated happy birthday!

Hold on a cotton picking minute! Did you actually see Elton in London? I like the way you roll! I was supposed to see him in Dallas in January 2022 but he canceled a couple of hours before the show saying he had COVID.

I’m going to try to start it very soon.  I’ve been tied up baseball! I’m also behind on The Repair Shop.

Spoiler space for off-topic.  And for the record, it was my wife's birthday, but mine was in March so I'll accept it too!  :)

    Spoiler

Elton's farewell show in Indianapolis in April 2022 (which I bought tickets for way back in 2018 - alas, I'm so sorry you didn't get your chance!!) was so fun, I realized that COVID actually afforded me a rare chance to see him again thanks to the UK shows having being postponed so many times, so I built our third trip to London around that opportunity.

Originally I had (by some miracle) acquired floor seats for one of his Liverpool shows, but when they got bumped a month earlier so the arena could prepare for Eurovision, I kept checking and lucked into some really nice seats for one of the London gigs (one nice thing about the UK is they don't allow price gouging on concert ticket resales - at least on the axs site, the most you can ask for over the price you paid is something like 15%).

It ended up being a wonderful turn of events, because since buying those Liverpool tickets , another concert we attended in the interim showed us that we're... not floor seat kinda folks, so our lower deck seats in London were much better for us.   Plus I didn't think I was going to be able to see my favorite team (Arsenal) in the original plans, but the new ones meant I could! I just won't talk about that result...

Mere was an experience. I hadn't ever done a fine dining tasting menu like that before, but I totally loved it. The staff was amazingly attentive, and the wine was also quite nice. And although it was definitely pricy, every bite tasted worth it. (And for the record, still half as much as a similar experience at Le Gavroche would've been, haha.)

I'll definitely watch the new season of Civilian MasterChef (well, the final three weeks, as the heats do get repetitive. I don't mind that so much on Professionals.)  Although I did watch an ep in the hotel room.

  7. Still the old stuff.  There's another ep like this this Friday, then back to full episodes from specific old sessions on the 14th (w/KMKey) and 21st (w/Penn & Teller, who appeared in '15).  No ep details have been released for 4/28 or May.

I am guessing that the 2023 taping episodes might be held back for Fall at this point, with a looming writers' strike threatening to leave some big holes in the sked...but we shall see.
