  1. Lord I hope so.

What would be the next frontier be, though?

They could address the fate of Dan Dreiburg, of course, but they'd need something bigger. Certainly if what's happened on Europa gets discovered by various governments (The US but also Russia, China, India) that could precipitate some conflict.

I struggled with distilling my emotional reaction to the scene into a clear, concise narrative

I think you expressed it quite well and I appreciate that particular outlook as it's not something I'd have looked for otherwise. I don't know if the show had that in mind or plans to dive into that topic, but I for one appreciate that particular insight. Wish I could mark the previous reply as both 'Useful' AND 'Liked'

I'm probably in the minority, but I thought the scene with the Brits and young Jon was treading treacherous waters. Jon is Jewish, and they were attempting to educate him on the creation myth which is in the Christian Old Testament but originated in the Torah.

In Judaism do they approach the Genesis story differently? Or is this moreso a thought that this was a situation of a perceived Christian family trying to knowingly brainwash a Jewish child into their faith?

I’ve thought that Karishma was attractive at certain points in the game and with certain camera angles, but last night she looked gorgeous in the red dress.

In one of the earliest seasons, one of the men “sleep groped” a female tribe mate. I can’t remember if anything was ever done about that or if he was just ultimately voted off.

She looked very glam in the red dress, but I think I found Kirishma more attractive in-game (when she wasn't being a downer).

The names that came to mind with the "sleep groping" was Ted/Ghandia back in Thailand and Ted was all "I don't even like you" when they argued about the unwanted behaviour. Ghandia got voted out heavily, perhaps supporting the narrative that the woman in the situation is the 'troublemaker'. Between that and the Sue/Richard situation and All-Stars, and what's happened this season, I guess the show's trying to be more aware and mindful, although it seems there's still a ways to go.

I know I'll get dragged for this.  I liked Kellee, I felt bad for Kellee and I was rooting for Kellee.  But, IMO, she was part of the problem and enabled Dan a lot more than production did.

I think there's a lot of truth in a lot of what Bryce Lynch said, because this situation in the "real world" would have been cut and dry... but in Survivor they're all trying to win a million bucks and we see that strategy, scheming, etc., outweighed the very real issue of inappropriate behaviour in this case.

Of course each individual may react differently in the same situation.

I have very badly not wanted Tommy to win because of how arrogant he is.  But, after last night's episode, I am more disgusted by all the other idiots kissing his ass and not even considering the idea of voting him out.

It's bewildering. People trying to be the Robin to Tommy's Batman or something. And it's not like Tommy has shown himself to be a master strategist even within his alliance.

It would seem to be in the best interest of everybody, even Dean, to vote out Tommy at next TC.

  6. Feel for Pops, but yes Ruby is right.

Seriously though, how Lynette could up-and-leave like that is insane.

Devante's hair is crazy. Like wow.

Okay, Nicole Sullivan's character and Charlie is the hookup I never thought I wanted but think I need to see happen. That quip from Charlie was funny.

With all the elephant imagery surrounding Lady Trieu (actual elephant at her lab, company logo is a stylized elephant head, the Lady Trieu of legend rode an elephant), I took that to mean Trieu told him. Especially since there is good reason to think she is his daughter.

Another tie in with the Ozymandias character as Veidt envisioned himself as Alexander the Great?

I would like to see the college focus on Chloe's assault on Brendan, rather than Brendan's insensitive behavior

I suspect, not to put words in anyone's mouth, that it's more of the OP wondering what would happen if in the show, Chloe gets seen as the bad guy, as opposed to the truth that Brendan was being a (dangerous) jackass. Perhaps the old slut-shaming routine. I suppose if S2 happens they could create conflict if say Brendan keeps trying to get back with her.

I was thinking the same thing.  They should have picked Noura because she is crazy and vindictive and they needed to convince her she wasn't on the bottom.   There was zero need for Tommy to bring Lauren.

I am on the fence about whether they also should have taken Dean instead of Dan.  Normally, I would say yes.  But, though Dan is very strategic, he is also a vindictive dick and might have been tempted to flip out of spite.    Also, Dean is such a pathetic lap dog, that they didn't even need to throw him a bone.

This almost always happens at this challenge at this point in the game. I know there have been one or two castaways who strategized for this and were willing to split their alliance (or give up their spot!) but for whatever reason most players just pick their buddies without a second thought and get other people ticked off.

This would have been a good time for Tommy to have given up his spot to a Noura or Kirishma.

For real. Would hate for the next episode to lead off with Janet having to be medivac'ed. It looked like a pretty big cut.

I bet you he would have. Dean seems to adore Tommy and I don't think he cares either way about Lauren. If anything, Lauren going solidifies him as Tommy's #2.

Yep put me in for Dean having a man-crush on Tommy. Oddly enough it seems like a few castaways have similar thoughts about the guy.

At first it was sweet that Elaine said her that she was worried her girlfriends kids wouldn’t accept her relationship with their mom but they do, but then did she say one of them is her best friend?  Because that’s creepy.  How old could that kid be?  Parents or pseudo-parents should not be best friends with kids.

We've come a long way, both in game and in (some parts of) society when Elaine was revealed to have a girlfriend and it's not a big deal whatsoever.

Whatever the show says about Kirishma and sucking at challenges, let it be known that she easily outlasted Dean AND Tommy at this particular IC.

    Noura is nuts.

The collection of loved ones would seem to be a far more enjoyable group of castaways than the group currently playing.

    I thought it was Karishma

That would have made sense. Karishma votes Janet, which means Elizabeth voted Kirishma and one of the majority "alliance" members voted Elizabeth.

The alternate would have been Elizabeth voting Janet, Karishma voting Elizabeth and everyone else voting for Karishma, which wouldn't seem to make sense considering Karishma was leaning towards playing her idol in the first place. Then again Karishma isn't the smartest tool in the shed.

Lauren had a solid gameplay episode but for whatever reason didn't plan ahead and would up panic-burning her idol. Why her majority "alliance" didn't plan a 4-3 or 5-2 Kirishma-Elizabeth and went for a 6-1 instead is baffling.

I think Lauren took the safe play and protected herself, but it shouldn't have come to that in the first place. Why raise the split vote strategy and not even bother in the end?

I still see an Elaine triumph in the end, Tommy doesn't seem anything special. The Goat Army seems to outnumber the realistic 'threats', frankly.

So is Will closet gay or bisexual?

I found it really hard to tell from the episode. Will didn't seem "into it" during the sex scene or the in-bed dialogue, I'd have guessed he saw the whole thing as a means-to-an-end with regard to getting assistance. Even when their hands touched when Garner slid the business card over, I didn't see anything that suggested intimacy.

On the flip side I don't think we saw him emote desire when laying with his wife either.

Maybe Angela will ask him in a later episode although I suspect it's not particularly relevant to the plot at this time.

  14. 1 hour ago, Chicago Redshirt said:

Reconciling Will's ethnicity and background with his supposed pro-German stance is a little harder, IMO. Maybe Will bought into the WWI German propaganda flier a little too hard? Still, he would have to be utterly ignorant about Hitler's attitudes toward racial superiority.

The only thing that I can think of as explanation (and this may be debunked by another rewatch or something from Peteypedia, etc.) is that the replacement HJ (Rolf) came in immediately after Will hung it up... and then made whatever quips that fall in line with the Hollis Mason recap. Right now though I'm not confident in my hypothesis one bit.

Edited to add that there's nothing in the show to suggest Rolf replaced him at any time; it looks like Will was working as a cop AND HJ until the mid 50s, which almost certainly makes the Nazi sympathizing bit have to be attributed to Will.

To advocate for myself for a moment, because I did bring it up, I’m not in any way insinuating that anyone who voted last night was racist.

    ...

I’m just saying it LOOKS BAD, optic-wise. Like the Outcast Attic from Big Brother, but in Fiji.

I get that and if you're seeing it in a vacuum it's understandable. But firstly, these guys, Kellee, Jamal, Aaron, Missy, are all on the jury. They weren't the first boots. Secondly, it appeared that Missy was trying a bit of a guilt-trip to save her own bacon as opposed to a legitimate concern about the makeup of said jury. I don't think it was intentional but abrupt and out of nowhere.

10 minutes ago, Lady Calypso said:

I agree that it was important to bring up. As someone who's new to Survivor, for the most part, and missed out on, like, 30+ seasons, I haven't witnessed a lot of this so finding out this type of information is new and informative for me as I figure out exactly where to start in terms of catching up.

I think the issue with Missy bringing it up is that, like the sexual harassment debacle of last episode, instead of using that information as a way to inform the audience and to make a valid point, she used it as strategy because, in this particular case, she knew that she was in danger of going home. I felt like she used it as a veiled threat, as in "If you vote me out, you'll be perceived as racist!" She used it at the very last moment, right before voting, so it felt like she awkwardly interjected it in. I wish the subject had come up more naturally, because it's obviously something that should be discussed.

I would have liked the moment more if she had not used it in the way that she did. If it had worked, then her ally Elizabeth would have gone instead (and my first thought when Missy commented about the jury, so far, being mostly POC, was "ok, so then they'll send your only other ally to jury instead! Problem solved!" which I would have been fine with because I hate Elizabeth way more). And, I mean, great, she would have stayed in the game, but she would have had no allies left. Lauren is her only other potential ally and...well, Lauren isn't a very good gameplayer, herself.

Missy tried using it as strategy but this time around, it didn't work. It sucks for her, but she was voted out because of her gameplay. She was voted out because she tried to make a move to get Tommy out and used Karishma, who saw through her act, and decided to use Tommy and Elaine to strike back at Missy and Elizabeth. Elaine knew that she was at the bottom of Missy/Elizabeth's alliance and she was close with Tommy, so it made sense for her to vote out Missy instead. Karishma felt used by Missy. Tommy obviously wasn't voting for himself to leave. So it is important to note that Missy being voted out was because Missy overplayed and she got caught.

Similar to how Aaron got voted out because he made himself a competitive threat over Janet. That's why these two particular eliminations made sense to me.

All of this. None of the recent members of the jury were voted out because they were people of colour, they were simply outplayed for various reasons.

Oh, shit!  I didn't even realize that there were two other minorities voted to the Jury immediately before this Aaron/ Missy  vote.  And I'm pulling for Lauren to go next?  I'd better watch out---Missy might have my Black Card revoked.

Shoot they could go Lauren-Kirishma back to back to see how Missy reacts.

If the lightbulb's gone off for Kirishma to become a major player from here on out, she's still in a dicey situation. I can't see her getting votes if she gets to the end, she may have to latch onto Lauren and Noura and display some versatility/adaptability.

There was a throwaway line from Dre about Bow complaining about doing laundry. I don't want to start a discussion about how the twins and Dre should do their own laundry, I just think Bow, a full time doctor, should consider hiring someone to do a repetitive chore that she doesn't care for. That might give her some time for Dante, the baby who is never around. Perhaps Dre should stop finding new activities and spend some time with him, too.

Did they get rid of "Black Nanny"?

I really cannot believe people are bringing up race in the last few boots. Missy was very very nasty and it doesn’t matter what color she is she deserved the vote. Same with Aaron. Race/ ethnicity was not a factor in there votes and rather than trying to link the last 3 boots with color , why not celebrate that there is such huge diversity in the cast.

I think there have been issues regarding race within the show over the years, but what Missy brought up was absolutely definitely positively not one of them, one single bit, and for her to insinuate there was an issue with the Kellee-Jamal-Aaron pattern, cringe.

Very bad episode for Missy all around, frankly. She totally failed to read the room with Kirishma (and likely failed her social game with her days back).

15 hours ago, Bryce Lynch said:

Whatever happened to "The person voted out will be asked to leave the tribal council area immediately?

Why was Missy allowed to linger, interrogate the people still in the game, tell Elizabeth to target Elaine, etc?

Only thing that could be a defense might be related to Aaron being sent to the jury (hence, lingering around), but that's straw-clutching at best. Get back control of your castaways, Probst.

Elaine is really going to ride this simple redneck that doesn't know whats going on schtick all the way to the end, isn't she.

It really would be something to have a Janet-Elaine-Kirishma F3, though. And with no physical threats left (Dean seems average at best, as does Elizabeth), it's quite possible. Sign me up for that.

I take it you haven't read the comics or saw the movie?  The nudity was all presented very matter-of-factly.  Dr. Manhatten is blue, but no, he was not the size of that dildo.

I am very puzzled by Aaron. Not a big fan but his game is odd. It just seemed unnecessary to work the "I'm with you" so strongly and go back on it. He played it all the way to the end. I could maybe understand promoting the idea before he knew of the block vote thing and then start suggesting cold feet. That at least is unsurprising to the Tommy crew and feels less like a flat out you lied betrayal. So his game seems really stupid to me. I don't get moves that seem to unnecessarily piss people off and create mistrust.

Aaron is almost burning his bridges before he even gets to them.

THANK YOU! This is what always irritates me the most when people say something offensive and then get all defensive and claim the other person is wrong/overly sensitive/ a snowflake, etc.  If you say something that is hurtful to someone and they calmly and rationally explain to you why it's hurtful, it doesn't matter whether or not you agree.  You either feel bad about unintentionally hurting someone and stop doing/saying it or you can continue doing it, knowing full well that you are hurting someone....which makes you an asshole.

    ^This.

On Lauren, dang. I had liked her but this episode dragged her way, way down. The inferences of Elaine not being clever, that was a slow boil, but her breaking down in tears after being all ready to chop throats,.. yeesh.

I believe that the show should be able to stand on its own. There are a lot of books adapted for movies and it isn’t necessary to have read the book first. I never read any of George R R Martin’s books but watched all of Game of Thrones.  This show cannot stand on its own and so I am out. Visually it is very appealing and it has a lot of good actors but it isn enough.

I think that's the likely fate of this show. My wife watched the episode with me and was bewildered about these other characters. Now perhaps she'd understand a bit more about Dr Manhattan from E1, but Veidt himself, Hooded Justice, the squids, without at least some knowledge of the comic or its adaptation, a new viewer isn't going to stick around. Easter eggs are awesome for myself and others who've read the comic multiple times, but everyone else?

A shame because the general ideas put forward (reparations and resentment the most striking example) should be intriguing and interesting.
