It's kind of weird, though, how Angie and Oremwood (I can never remember his first name) are on their own show with no relationship to the main story.

I had the same thought. I wonder if it would work better if Ormewood and Angie were recurring characters? I don't like that for the actors, but I might be best for the plot to not have to shove an APD story alongside the FBI one. Just use them when necessary.

It also doesn't make a lot of sense why only Ben can see the hologram. Granted, it didn't make a lot of sense in the original version either, but in that incarnation the trick of the Quantum Leap was that it made everyone see Sam as whoever he switched places with, so part of that trick might have been his ability to see Al.

IIRC, Sam and Al had some sort of actual connection. Implants, I think, that facilitated them being able to see each other.

Though there were others who could see them too.

Can we talk about Tommy's waist-long braids and how unsafe those were in the field? I can't imagine city/county paramedics are allowed to have hair below the neck. I know cops and firefighters aren't. Source: father was cop; ex-BIL was firefighter.

There's been more than once she's had long styles that I don't think would be appropriate for the field.

Not only unsafe if they got caught on something, but also the risk of them being dragged through who knows what while working on a patient. Most would put long hair up for a job like this.

Does anyone know, when the season goes over to Netflix, is it the edited episodes or the complete ones?

The only unedited one we get in the US is the Christmas special. What PBS airs is what's on Netflix.

The DVDs are the full UK episodes. If you don't want to buy them, check to see I your local library has them.

I'm annoyed by people like Josefina who feels like Eddie won't be happy or complete or something unless he has a woman in his life.

Same. I wouldn't be against Eddie having a season off from dating. He's got Carla, Buck, and the rest of the team to help if he needs it. If he's not ready for more, don't push him.

It was nice that Kyle wanted to jump in and help Clark. And Lana was really subtle in stopping him. It was a good episode for Kyle.

I liked that scene too. Lana was like "No, no, Clark's got this" while probably worried that he might lose his temper and give away his true identity.

Someone teased in the ep. 1 discussion that Sr. V lied again, in episode 3, but I saw no sign of that. I loved the way she championed the abused wife and kids.

I know there was a cut scene about going to retrieve things from her flat. That was referenced late in the police station, but Sr. V said something about they were trying  to retrieve medication. I think that was the fib, to perhaps get the police to take it seriously.

Ah, that was what she served him in the ending montage. There was A Look over it but I didn't know why.

When the episode started, and they were speculating about just a mechanical failure leading to the crash, I was surprised it *wasn't* about a hijacking at that point.

Considering the time period and being set on a plane, my immediate reaction was it was a hijacking. I was expecting it to be just a passenger (or a group), not two employees.

It was surprising the team didn't seem to consider it an option.

I also got a laugh over Ian saying they would watch "Air Disasters" to go to sleep. I do that quite often.

My only complaint is we didn't really see the motivation for the co-pilot and the woman ex-cop hijacking a plane.

It wasn't really directly explained, but hijacking was super common at the time.

Per Wikipedia: "In a five-year period (1968–1972) the world experienced 326 hijack attempts, or one every 5.6 days. The incidents were frequent and often just an inconvenience, which resulted in television shows creating parodies."

The criminal duo would have been highly aware of this fact, and would also have better chances of getting away with it because they were familiar with the system.

Both seemed to have hit dead ends in their career, and the woman was vindictive towards her employer. Would make a skyjacking to live the good life where they couldn't be extradited sound like an easy out.

I was wondering how the for-profit private company was providing services more cheaply than the government service. I guessed they were underpaying the staff, but smug dude didn't seem to be unhappy with his pay. Cutting corners on basic safety, though! Wow.

It seemed stupid not to have a system for who is dispatched to each scene, though. That surely wastes a lot of resources.

They were also checking to see if patients had good insurance, then doing tests and procedures that weren't needed . Like with the older couple who normally called them directly who were being upsold on services .

If people didn't have insurance, I bet they'd be happy to pass them off to a City crew.

These days, for me Phyllis is the heart and soul of this show. When she was saying goodbye to Lucille I cried - so kind and understanding. We all need a friend/mentor/boss like Phyllis.

I've felt the same for a while now. She's no nonsense yet one of the most compassionate people I've ever seen. Especially with what we'd call "non-traditional families" these days, due to her own experience growing up as an illegitimate child.

It's nice to see a "spinster" character who has a fulfilling life. I also enjoy her friendship with Miss Higgins due to their spinsterhood, which is something you don't see much of on tv.

  13. A weird thought about Ziggy being involved with both the current and future leaps. Perhaps it has its own agenda and is using both teams to accomplish it, no matter if they are in seemingly in conflict with each other.

What could be worth risking so many lives? Could it be a last ditch attempt to get to Sam? Perhaps Ziggy's plan was a reaction to Al's death. He was the last person truly pushing to find Sam, so Ziggy decided to take over.

It was heartbreaking when Maddie said “which one?” with tears in her eyes when the men were at the door.

That was a good sad moment. I had been thinking Chimney would have to be the one to break the news to her, and that might have made me cry.

But that would not have been public knowledge, and separate bedrooms were the norm. Any child she had would have been attributed to him and have his name. You know what they say about the aristocracy-half or more shouldn’t have those titles, legitimately.

I could easily see his wife being Involved with someone else right about the time Isaac died, maybe shortly after. She could have had a "10 month pregnancy" and folks might ignore the math in favor of saying it was her husband's child.

It could be interesting to see Isaac react to her "betrayal" then slowly realize her descendants aren't his, yet they're carrying on the Higgintoot name. I think that might mean a lot to him.

The pit fall I see is that Carlos stayed married to Iris to keep her insured so I suspect that's a form of insurance fraud if they annul the marriage.

On the other hand, wasn't Iris declared legally dead?

Annulment wasn't something I'd really considered as an option, but I looked for what grounds are in Texas. One that stuck out to me is "A spouse only got married because of fraud, duress, or force." Would it count that the marriage was a fraud to make it appear that Carlos was straight to his parents? Or could the fraud to get Iris on his insurance count? Either way isn't exactly a good look for him, but the latter one might get him in legal trouble.

Iris was missing about three years. While it varies from state to state, it's seven years before someone can be declared dead in Texas. There are sometimes factors that can speed that up. So if they'd found the truck she'd last been seen in where there were other bodies, it might be legally assumed that she'd also died but was ejected and dragged off by animals or something.

I just can't believe no one ever looking into the case ever said "The husband did it!" Too many true crime fans would be out there trying to figure it out whodunnit, and Carlos being a cop would make it look even worse for him. His name would be mentioned in print and online (not to mention podcasts) as Iris's husband, even if they weren't living together at the time.

  17. The Guardian comment is spot on. The show is not really groundbreaking (though it sometimes has its moments educating people) but it's comfort viewing.

I liked seeing Susan again, and hope maybe we'll see her again to see how things progress for her and her family. I did like that they were showing the siblings were more upset about how their parents were acting versus Susan's condition. She's just their sister, and they were collectively having to parent their parents. That happens in families with much less stress on them than this one. I also can't help thinking how a modern-day powered wheelchair would have provided so much freedom for Susan.

I got a laugh out of Fred and Timothy's reaction to the burlesque scene. Fred said they'd never get it past Violet and Lucille in a million years, but I kept thinking about what Sheila's reaction would be.

I have a soft spot for Miss Higgins and her love of paperwork, and loved her using her powers for good. Life would be a lot better for many people if someone like her were around to help them with paperwork.

Was bummed Sister Hilda is gone. Is that permanent? The door seems to be left open for a return. I also like Sister Frances and while I wish the actress success in her other endeavors, I'm glad the door has been left open for her too. It's amazing to me how they've had so many characters in and out over the years yet still managed to hold things together. Sometimes, just one character leaving can throw off the whole dynamic for the show.

I do wonder if we'll see new nuns, new nurses, or a combination. They're really short staffed, and we're up to 1968 now. There's been threats to Nonnatus House and Dr. Turner's practice as things have modernized around them, but how much longer did real life services like this last? I have a feeling it died out by the time Thatcher was in office, which is about a decade in the future.

  18. Getting a legal name change takes some time and money. I'm assuming it was legally done since that's the name he's using in prison, but someone spiraling as bad as he seemed to be is generally not going to be thinking about a name change. Did he steal the money to pay for it?

I was assuming that K1 was not a brand name for any such robot, but the designation that this particular family gave their Kaylon. (I just happened to notice that K1 and K-Lon are similar sounding. Coincidence?)

I think K1 would be equivalent to Alexa or Siri.

I've also been wondering if K1 is the source of the name Kaylon. Do we know if that was the name of the biological creator's race, or could it be something created by the synthetics?

I wonder if we'll ever get more backstory about the Kaylons. How long ago was the uprising? Could any of the biologicals have survived by being off world?

  22. I think it would be interesting if they went with the idea that there's more than one Gordon now, and that we see this one again in the future, or at least consequences of his actions.

What if that timeline went really dark in the next 400 years, and creates this show's version of the Mirror Universe? I think TPTB and the cast would have a lot of fun with it.
