  1. Best line of the night, Hetty taking a shot at Jay by saying, "Man, you're a chef." The fact that he couldn't hear her just made it better.

I could be wrong, but I thought one of the women in the ghost gang was wearing an old-fashioned dress, definitely pre-Deal Mart. Didn't really get a good look at their costumes (though I'm pretty sure the butcher was wearing a Deal Mart apron; maybe he liked to fight in real life, too, and lost that one).

They are bound to the land, just like some of our ghosts, who have been at Woodstone before the mansion was built.

Hetty and Thor are pretty ghastly too when you think about it. The former treated those she considered beneath her like dirt and the latter is literally a mass murderer. We've just gotten used to them is all. It's possible we'll find a softer side of Carol too eventually.

Hetty is growing and changing. She's becoming a better person. It's one of the things that I love about the show.

  3. I didn’t expect that it would be Flower. On the one hand, it’s important that it was a ghost who people cared about, but on the other hand it is too soon to lose any of the main cast.

I usually prefer how the US writers address certain episodes in comparison to the UK writers, but the UK team did a better job in portraying how the ghosts were impacted by losing a member of their group. I didn’t like how this didn’t seem to hurt anyone aside from Thor. I love the balance of humor and sentimentality in this show, but that mixture and balance was missing in this episode.

Flower may not have been the strongest character, but I’m going to miss her.

  4. That was odd. I think that most people guessed from the start that Mason was the traitor. From the start of this episode, it was clear who his mother was. In the plane, while Mason was fighting the undead twin, Carter seemed to let it slip that Citadel erased Mason's memory, but then Carter didn't seem to have any clue that Mason was with Celeste. They really should have explained all of the nonsensical plots, so that they could start fresh with the new chapter/season. I guess if they explained those lapses of logic they would have had to have an explanation for all of the things in this episode that made no sense.

As WritinMan said, very little actually happened, which is another reason why they should have tightened the episode.

This is all going to end on a cliffhanger, isn't it?

I hope not.  Given the concept of future seasons taking place at the same time, but in other locations, I think that it would be better to wrap this mystery up.

I think that the show can be redeemed a little, if we learn that Mason was the traitor, and that all of this is some convoluted plan on the part of Nadia and Bernard to get Mason to retrieve the codes that only he can get. Maybe after the accident they wiped his memory, and put him into a position where he would be on ice with Celeste, until they could put this plan into motion.

My idea isn't good, but it would fill some of the plot holes, and explain the outlandish coincidences.

why would EVIL TWIN - who beat up his wife/love Brille when discovered she manipulated him, be sad and looking for her (so Tucci told him who she was)

Do people select their memory wipe futures? ie picking the back story - or just luck the 2 ex agents met/married

I had wondered WHO would marry a man with no memory (and no job/money) and immediarly have a kid - could he even work for last 8 years, how did he finance things?

His brother beat her up. Allegedly, the lover was tied up in the basement, but he escaped.

I didn't find this engaging at all. I just don't care that much about these people, since they won't BE "these people" for very much longer, so their conflict seemed something that could be told rather than shown. Boringly.

It's funny that you mention this, because one of the issues that I have is what they are deciding to show, instead of taking the time to fully develop the characters and the story. The producers thought that it was better to show gratuitous violence to the point where it no longer has an impact, instead of taking the time to let us know who these characters are, so that we can care about them. The third episode felt like I must have fallen asleep, and totally missed half of the episode, because it seems to me that torturer twins story is something that should have been explored. A poster here did a better job of explaining it, or at least the original plot that may or may not still exist, and did so in a way that makes me want to learn more about what happened.

  8. I really liked this episode. I wish that the other three episodes had been this coherent. This one gave me hope that some of the plot holes and too easy or even lazy coincidences will be addressed in future shows.

Her family has money to afford the best lawyers money can buy. Why make things more complicated than they need to be?  Unless she didn't want him selling illegal paperwork to lead back to the family?  These type of subplots are annoying to me.

It's still a scandal, and she may have killed someone because of her arrogance. This was definitely not a plot hole. It reminds me of the rich girl who ran over a homeless man a few years ago, and let him die in her garage instead of getting him help.

  10. I don't like gory or horror movies. I usually don't watch shows like Squid Game, but I was bored, and then I became intrigued after the second episode. I ignored a lot of the violence in the first few episodes, and fast forwarded through some parts. I have spoken to other people who stopped watching during the first episode, because they didn't like the violence of the red light game. I think that everyone knows  their limits, and it is good to monitor what kids watch, but more importantly, making sure that they understand what they are watching. For me, that is why I stopped viewing the violence as just been there to shock. The over riding message of the show became clear, and once I understood that, I perceived the violence in a different way.

I think Gi-hun's relationship with this money, and what he does and doesn't do with it is also one of the weaker points in the show. Almost like the series was determined to have him walk out with the prize even if it didn't make sense for his character.

If he's giving people suitcases full of money, I would have expected him to at least give something to Ali's family, since they were allies and Ali never did anything wrong. I would almost expect him to send something to everyone's family, since that's what would have happened if he had gotten his wish and voted to stop playing.

But, in the end, even the person who was too moral to want to take the money kept it once he had it. I'm not sure if that's a problem with the characterization or just a really sad commentary on humanity.

I disagree. The screenwriter has confirmed that the ultimate lesson is to have faith in humanity. Initially, Gi-hun doesn't spend the money, because he feels guilty, and he is in mourning. Anyone with an ounce of humanity would have felt the same. The woman who helped the homeless guy restored his faith, which is why he dyed his hair to honor her. He gave his friend's mother money, because again, he felt guilty. Ultimately, he seems to make what is for him the ultimate sacrifice, by harming his relationship with his mother, so that he can do the human action of helping others.

I think that, in so far as this is supposed to be mimicking a reality show, it makes sense -- there's an element of every show that's about backstabbing people outside the challenges. But I also think it hurts the internal logic of the series, since it seems like the guards allow the contestants to kill each other and stop them from killing each other at totally arbitrary moments, just based on what seems most dramatic.

    Spoiler

I think that allowing the contestants to kill one another was part of the VIPs fun, as well as part of the lesson. It made sense.

I’ve just finished episode one, but don’t know how much more I’ll watch right now.  I don’t want to be devastated.  I saw a tweet from a girl who was watching, and asked “how do you get past episode five?” Like that one did her in.  This episode became intense enough.

There is a twist in episode two. As someone said above, it is an important episode, and is probably intended to hook people into watching. It's an interesting twist that for some, will make the killing easier to watch, at least until episode 6.

  13. Something that I realized about episode 6,

    Spoiler

the players journey mirrors that of the viewer. They started out not knowing their fellow competitors, and probably not being too affected by their deaths. As the main character said, earlier they didn't even use names when talking to one another. By episode six, they paired together with people who they knew a little more, which had a bigger impact on them when their partners died. Beyond making money, I don't know what the leader got out of doing this "experiment", but maybe based on his final words, he did this so that people would start caring more about others, even strangers.

  14. This is not the type of show that I usually watch, but once I started this, I could not turn it off. Episode 6 is devastating. It is so well written. I didn't watch most of the killing, and was unfazed by it up until episode six, I wonder if the writers intended this to be the case. I guessed who was in charge, but I think that the last episode still worked.

    Spoiler

I literally yelled for the winner to get on the plane, but I understand why he didn't. For the first time in his life he was putting other people first. Initially it didn't seem like he cared about anyone, and now he is going to try and save the lives of people who he doesn't even know. I know that some people see this as the character sacrificing his daughter, but I think that the bigger picture is a character progression that shows him finally caring about humanity, and wanting to end an organization that is strong enough to hurt even the people who he loves.

As good as the show is, I don't think that I need to see a season two. I think that this series told the story perfectly.

If there is a future season of this, they have given away the secret to winning-design everything for Heidi (and Winnie if she is still a judge).  That really seemed to be the most important consideration.  So, sequins, short, and 'sexy.'  It would be hilarious if there is a next season and every single contestant had the same aesthetic which just so happened to match Heidi's taste.

This is so funny, because so many of the objections to the two Andrea's is that people wouldn't wear their clothes, or that older women wouldn't wear their clothes.

Did Miami Andrea pick out fabrics for NY Andrea?    They were hideous on tv…maybe they looked better in person?    And both Andreas were designing for a narrow market…what would Heidi wear?    Gary designed clothes that would have a huge potential market.   They were beautiful, unique patterns and wearable.   Anyone who isn’t a model spends most of their budget on this type of clothing.   He was robbed.

eta. I thought it was very telling that the ONLY designer on the panel loved Gary’s work and vision.

Taste is subjective, but there is no way that Gary's clothes would appeal to a wider market than Andrea P's, and that's fine. Designers need a signature style, and should do what works for them.

  17. All three of these designers will be successful. I think that any of them could have won. I was a fan of Andrea P from the start, but Andrea S won me over the past two episodes, because of her business sense. Andrea S. really understands her brand, and how to catch people's attention, but she also understands the business side. I'm not surprised that Amazon wants to work with all three, they really are incredible designers. I love Gary's textiles and prints, they are so unique. I love Andrea P's eye for colors, and how her designs are so flattering. I noticed the same thing when I went to her wedding dress site.

  18. That was a good episode. I'm glad that all three made it to the final, that was the right decision. Andrea S. has always had a distinctive style, but her store was a revelation. It really did look like a real store. I love that she included shoes and accessories. The new styles that she made were also very good. It was a great decision to include the mirror, as well as show different ways that the items could be worn.

I liked Andrea P's designs, and the concept, but it really didn't look like a store. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but it just didn't come off as comfortable and inviting as Andrea S's store.

I liked Gary's concept too, but once again it was not comfortable or inviting. As he noticed, it took the judges a while to take in his clothes. I think that this is how I would feel in his store. I would be overwhelmed by everything else. The clothes just didn't stand out like they did in Andrea S's store.

I have to really wonder why Gary lost his shop.  I don't think designers or any type of real artist should have to hype their work so vigorously and publicly like snake-oil salesmen to get recognition for their talent.  Though social media seems now to be the arbiter of ALL things successful, talent will usually win in the end over slick ads and tricky photography.

Did he have a shady partner or accountant?  Did he have a backer pull out of deals or collaborators that puled the rug out from under him?  I cannot believe it has anything to do with his visions, his designs, his construction or his lack of high speed and bubbly conversation.  I'm really curious, but I don't feel like researching him, it feels intrusive.  Is that weird?  But I am curious....

Without promotion people won't know that a product exists. I hate networking, but it is essential.

I wonder if Gary's lack of confidence played a role in his business closing.

I’m surprised, but I really like the show.  I don’t like many of the designs, but I enjoy the contestants.

It is a million times better than last season. Season one focused too much on Heidi and Tim. They also cast people who were already successful, and because of that they were not flexible. The season two cast seems to have the same amount of established designers, but they are more flexible, and are at least pretending that they care about the million dollars.

  20. I really liked these last two episodes, and some of the digital videos. Gary's video was incredibly moving, but mainly because of the poem. I'm glad that Gary acknowledged the work of the models and the videographer. His design was amazing, and I would totally buy his runway outfit. Andrea's video was also good. I'm happy that she finally won a challenge. Her outfits were not exciting, but I would still buy them, and I like that she designed something different. I also looked at her website, and she has designed some incredibly looking dresses for women of all sizes.  The other Andrea's designs were cute, but I don't know anyone who could wear them. That is not a bad thing, and it is totally clear that she has her own style.

I was surprised that they cut Lucy, but it was probably for the best. I think part of the reason may have been because they felt that she was not keeping up, or comfortable being away from her family.

The next episode looks very interesting.

There seems to be a big problem with the seamstresses doing things wrong or not finishing the work. And then some of the designers don’t know how to sew, like Andrea. As much as I find Olivia annoying I felt sorry for her having to do so much more than Andrea, who also effed up the packet.
And why did Tim call out Gary for doing a similar look last week but Andrea and Ally got away with another hairy feather collection. I also felt bad for Ally, Andrea kind of nixted every idea Ally had so that’s why the judges didn’t see her in their looks.
    The right team won.

Based on last season, the main problem may be both a lack of communication, and giving the seamstresses too much to do in a short period of time. Last year, the woman who was the second elimination had a lot of problems knowing how to effectively let the seamstresses know what she wanted. I think that Olivia would have had problems in this area, ,especially since she didn't know how to talk to people in a professional way.
