  1. Can’t wait for season 3. I’ve finished all the books written by Tony H. and just finished the first Leaphorn/Chee written by his daughter, Anne. She has continued the great storytelling he started. Are there enough fans of the books to add a book discussion topic?

How would they have gotten that?

I didn’t rewatch, but here’s what I think: Miss H met the young man while working together, became friends and met his family. They did things families do together and invited her along. More developed between them and it was his father’s family who insisted on adoption and found the adoptive family. When the boy became an adult, the adoptive family helped him to find his bio parents. I suspect that the biological paternal grandparents shared the slides with him and directed him to England and Miss H.

there's Angela and their son (what's his name?) plus Timothy. They had a responsibility to prepare them of the possibility of May leaving them.

Teddy. I’d agree with that as long as they did the preparing privately, within their own hearts. The point was to give May a sense of stable, loving security, and not allow her to worry about the future (that’s the parent's responsibility). Developmentally, kids develop problems without that, and they manifest in all sorts of behavioral ways. Age wise, Timothy was the only sib old enough to handle the possible loss, and he’s been aware of it all along.

Even though the "first and last breath" came straight out of Steel Magnolias, it still brought me to tears.  It was delightful to see Miss Higgins smiling so much as she got to know her son.

Yes. Even though he was ill, all those years of not knowing…finally to find out he’d had a good life. Plus the added bonus of a daughter-in-law and a grandson. Best story of the lot.

  5. Interesting as the story is, I have absolutely no idea how to relate, or empathize with Becca and Ros. I grew up in a house with a mother whose most frequent utterance was, “It’s none of your business.” That said, I can relate to the antipathy between the two sisters and I’m curious to know the age difference. Why the issue of the men’s shirts in the drawer? Maybe they belonged to Joan.
As far as the drug thing goes, I don’t think it’s limited to marijuana. Channing’s character was missing pills/liquids from the cupboard and she seemed to be searching for the same in the bathroom when she visited the daughters. I’m thinking the group picture on the beach are friends who help older, sick people in communities on the island.

Becca is an idiot. Parents lie to children as a matter of course, for all kinds of reasons, including their safety.

Miss Higgins storyline almost broke me. I teared up when she and her son hugged each other.

So glad Joyce told someone about her horrible husband, Nonnatus did not disappoint in their reaction.

I'm sorry to see Trixie go, but if this is the best they can write for the character then it's for the best.

So happy for Sister Julienne winning mother of the year.

Conjecture: We’ll see Trixie back from NY the next time a new episode is aired. The next should be the Christmas special, no?

Could Sylvester holding up the pay packet from Nonnatus house in church be any more contrived?

I really loved that! Just proved that he was so deluded by his need for self-aggrandizement he was too stupid to realize he was indicting himself by displaying “his” pay packet. As if the whole community wouldn’t recognize or read it. Pride (false as it was) goeth……

I assume she was wearing cotton or wool stockings.  If those had been polyester, she would have been in the ICU (or historical equivalent), not mincing around in her pajamas complaining about the burn ointment.

Had to laugh at continuity, though. Minutes after seeing her pulling her pajama pant legs away from her sore wounds, she’s sitting comfortably with legs crossed having a heart to heart with her brother.

I've noticed Hallmark tends to do that, if a movie airs on one of their other channels like Mystery or Family, when they show it on Hallmark Prime they tend to bill it as a "Hallmark Premiere," which while technically true is still kind of underhanded.

As for the movie itself, (which I did watch because the ads made it look like a completely different movie) it was kind of a movieloaf with bits and pieces of other more interesting movies all crammed together.  They had a bunch of interesting ideas, but because there was so many of them, none got the development that would have made it interesting.

It happens frequently, but this time someone above confirmed that it did air on the original Hallmark channel. I suppose all programming could be considered new, as they have officially changed the names of all 3 channels.

  9. I get it. Danny is a nudge. He says provocative things, pushes people verbally just to get a reaction. Actually he’s tempered it a bit with age. It probably comes from his position in the sibling pecking order.

Did it air on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries?  Or are you in Canada?

Maybe I'll recognize it once it starts but it's not reminding me of something I've seen.

No, and no. I remember the story, but was not entertained enough for a rewatch.

It was a Hallmark Channel broadcast from last August according to IMDB.  And it has horrible reviews.

Thank you. I’ve begun to think I’m imagining things. It actually was such a snooze, maybe I was dreaming.

  11. Ok, I’m getting really tired of Hallmark’s false advertising. I paused the movie I’m watching to come here and complain. It goes: “Countdown to Summer All Month Long” with a new premiere movie every Saturday night in May. The first one (tonight) is from 2023, and I saw it last year. I can tell you the plot and resolution, but I won’t lest someone tells me to tag my spoilers! (But it has already aired)

Abigail was really annoying and rude about her husband getting special treatment for job.

Surprised Danny didn't go off on Erin about releasing the serial killer.

He kind of did sitting in her office. She justified it with “the really goood deal” and added he’d be out in 2 months anyway. Now, then, what’s the difference?

What was the resolution of the nanny brouhaha? Did the hospital set up a daycare? Didn't it have one already? (I was tired, and had already watched "two families need nannies" on The Rookie, so maybe I zoned out.)

Yes. The designated room looked pretty lame, though. There was no discussion, they just threw it in as a visual at the end. Probably worked out better for the nanny because I imagine in addition to a salary, she may have been offered some benefits.

Only touched the quote button once, but such is this hoppy site. I can only read 3-4 posts before it “reloads” due to some error.

Thank you, without being able to hear sometimes I make up my own (better?) story endings :)

Ten or so years ago your deductions would probably be accurate, or at least related. These days, with diminished attention spans and multitasking (BS), topics, plot lines, even dialogue jump around like fleas.

I didnt have my hearing aids in, and close captioning wasn't working. did anyone catch what was actually said? my guess is it was patient's mom who didn't want to contact the daughter.

He sent something to an outside agency/lab for testing. At the beginning of the episode, he was on the phone looking for results. Then he got a phone call from them revealing the results (he seemed disappointed). He just asked for the results to be sent to him. Must be something to do with his own condition and wanted the confidentiality of an outside lab.

  16. Fred is like Lucile Ball, always scheming. It’s fall, turnips are harvested, he’ll sell some (yuck). It backfired. Remember the zucchini (“courgettes”)?

  17. Season 13-are they making each story depressing because of the number? They’ve all been real downers. Seems every character is having to deal with jeopardy.
They telegraphed Allison’s abuser the moment she arrived home early in the episode. Interestingly, when her mom announced the imminent return of the stepfather, Allison just stared at the little female sibling at the table. Best that can happen for Joyce will be hubby aggravating someone into violence against him. Nancy seems to think he’s capable.

  18. It was gratifying to see that 93 subpostmaster convictions were overturned, but sad that those were far fewer than the 200+ convictions that were reported. And who paid the court/attorney fees to accomplish that? Sad, also, to see that quite a few of the plaintiffs passed away before seeing the victory.

I can't think Paul and Kimberley would agree to do this sequel if they couldn't make the script work - maybe I'm being naive about that but I'm going to stay optimistic and hold out hope it's another winner like the first. (And I say this as someone who firmly believes that Christmas belongs in December and no other part of the year, lol).

Dynamite pairing, whether writing or acting together.

  20. All the bad guys got their comeuppance, according to BB formula, and Frank got to play Ward Cleaver. One thing though, when I was a child, my parents periodically attended “smokers”. A sort of social gathering where there were drinks, food, card playing (gambling-poker, black jack). Usually these parties were organized to raise money for various charities/community benefits. Never heard of any boxing, and the venues wouldn’t support a ring.

Forgot to add: sometimes these were men only. If women were included they were called “mixed smokers”.

I get you don't have to be married to have a child, but they are so focused on having a child, why not get married too?

Even though I find her to be rather cold, I think I understand her reticence to say the vows. She’s taxed out from the attempts to get pregnant, and worried they’ll end up hating/blaming each other. She’s much more relaxed and happy this season, now that the pressure is off. Who knows? Maybe the season will end in a wedding. I agree, they’re involving themselves in the community more and that community is the main reason I’ve come to love this show as much as DiP-the quirky inhabitants!

    we leave Deidre's story open-ended

Via dialogue, we know that she hasn’t sought government help. Between Cyril and the efficient Miss Higgins, I think we’re supposed to believe she’ll access benefits and be able to raise her children.

It was way over the top, the mass casualties,

I had similar feelings-about the unrelenting onslaught. Reminded me of Code Black where, due to logistics and volume, it was an expected daily occurrence. In any ER, the paramedics would not be roaming around, distracting the working doctors.
