I've been hate-watching this show for the last few seasons, but damn if they didn't stick the landing. This somehow hit me harder than the ending of "This Is Us", which was always the superior show.

Missed last week's episode, so this was a pretty bleak 2-episode binge. But well done. Take care, everyone.

This is me, precisely. Kudos to James, because he kept me invested in a character that was ostensibly ruined by the writing (his part in the whole Peter debacle). I figured his cancer would come back, but I really didn't think they'd kill him off. The penultimate episode hit me harder, but the whole arc of the final three was gut wrenching. I have literally almost nothing to say about the rest of the storylines or characters, save that I am really, truly shocked that they ended this series with Eddie still in the chair. I was 100% certain he would have some kind of drama/trauma-induced 'miracle' by the end. So, kudos to the showrunner for avoiding at least one massive trope. Eddie was also a character made a thousand times better by his portrayer - David Guintoli is a gem.

Talking about the JP stans and their negative posts here. I had no idea how much was going on since I'm not on social media platforms. But I've just come over from TVLine where they have put up the new poster and I'm not exaggerating when I say that the large majority of comments below the article were nasty comments about Jensen and how horrible he is along with predictions of a lousy show that won't make it past a season - and they are thrilled at that prediction. I've never seen such - really, hatred - for anything before reading this. It makes me sick to my stomach. And I would feel the same way if Jared was the target with his new show. It's just sick IMO. 👿

And it's continually stoked by two of the nastiest pieces of work I've encountered in 20 years of message boards and fandoms. Jared doesn't help it with his passive aggressive nonsense either.

It isn't only banning merchandise with the Winchesters, it's ALREADY banned merchandise previously, since at least 2017(2016 apparently for the key chains with the anti-possession tattoo replica) with things OTHER than the Winchesters, including "Supernatural" merchandise.

And as an aside, the vendor who had been selling these keychains gave me their card and website so that I could purchase them outside of Creation's hallowed merch room. It was Creation drawing the line, no doubt covering their asses with the studio, as you pointed out.

So Creation blames the studio every year? Why would Creation then only ban merchandise with Winchesters, The Winchesters and Winchester Bros along with the Impala and the amulet? Those were the only items mentioned. Everything else SPN related is okay apparently.

Perhaps you didn't read all of my post above. They stopped the sale of a key chain replica of the anti-possession symbol in 2016.

Any copyright has to be defended. I'm not sure why someone decided to lay this at the feet of The Winchesters (though I have a pretty good guess), but the fact is, any merchandise that infringes on their copyrights/trademarks is fair game. Anyone producing these things takes that risk. This 'outrage' that maybe they are being called on it now is ridiculous.

It's akin to montage/edit makers using copyrighted footage of the show, or music tracks, and then crying if/when they are shut down (on Youtube). It happened to me (because of the music) and I hated it, but knew it was a possibility. What I didn't do was go and bitch at the musician who enforced their rights.

On a happier note, that key-art is awesome. So much better than the poorly done recycled photoshop jobs we got the last few years of SPN.

  5. I'm not sure why they are presenting it as being solely related to The Winchesters. At the 2016 Toronto con, I purchased a keychain of a die cast anti-possession symbol in the merch room that was early access for Gold tickets. I went back to buy another one on Saturday and the vendor told me they had to remove them from the sale due to copyright issues (informed by Creation), because they were unlicensed. This has always been the case, whether or not they chose to enforce it. Too bad they are framing it this way - it just gives the haters and butthurt JP stans one more unreasonable way to hate on a show they haven't seen.

I read that article and I honestly think that they just took it at face value.

My feeling is that it's more likely a line between John and his mother.

    Just a guess, though.

Agreed. I think they are mistaken.

  7. They have already been writing S4 for a while now, so I imagine that the writers' room was in a bit of a scramble to fit whoever this character is in once JDM's ability to participate was confirmed. I think him being related to Soldier Boy is a little too on the nose, even for Kripke.

  8. I love JDM, but somehow I just can't picture him as a Vought-style supe. I can see the d-bag side, but not the smarmy camera-ready side. I wonder if he will be a Vought baddie, or a government baddie (with Victoria becoming Vice President and all).

  9. In news that's not really news - AMLT will end with season five. Though not officially announced by ABC....

    Quote

ABC is not commenting for this story, but we’re told the decision to bring the show to a creatively satisfying conclusion was made mutually between Nash, the network and ABC Signature/Kapital Entertainment.

A bit off topic.  Wow, has anyone read the disastrous IMDb reviews of Andrew Dabb’s Resident Evil series on Netflix? I hope he stays miles away from The Winchesters. 😱

I am 100% certain Hell would freeze over before Jensen let Badd anywhere near anything he does now or in the future.

Nobody will ever convince me that he (Badd) is not responsible for Jensen calling it quits on Dabbernatural. Don't even try.

  11. I won't be surprised if there are flashbacks, or shots of him in the cryo-chamber, but those (the cryo shots) could have been filmed already while shooting the last episode, and Jensen even said they shot more flashback scenes/longer versions of what they showed. But I sincerely doubt we'll see him as a live-action part of S4.

So y'all see what JA commented on the pic of KU and JQ? Looks like he might be back sooner than expected!

I really think that's just a joke. I say things like that to my friends all the time if they post about a good drink or great meal, etc. Personally, I don't think we'll see Soldier Boy again before the final season (if at all), except maybe in Vought propaganda.

No, they do have supporting role nominations:

Best Supporting Actress in a Streaming Series:
            Patricia Arquette   (Severance)
             Danielle Brooks (Peacemaker)
Jess Bush  (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds)
                Nell Tiger Free   (Servant)
             Kathryn Hahn   (WandaVision)
          Moses Ingram   (Obi-Wan Kenobi)
     Aleyse Shannon   (Leverage: Redemption)

Oops, thx. I didn't scroll far enough lol. Same as the guest role, they don't separate by gender.

  14. I agree re Erin v Karen, 100%. But I believe Kimiko would be a supporting role, and they only seem to have lead acting categories.  The guest acting role isn't even separated by gender.

  15. I'm not sure how I feel about this finale. Disappointed might be too strong a word, but I was kind of hoping for... more? After all that, Andy is allowed to just walk away with a memory wipe/false memories? And why didn't anyone take the girls' assertion that Leland was involved more seriously? I get that Kristen was a wreck, but still. I did enjoy Sister Andrea and her interaction with Lynn - even Lynn completely ignoring that fact that the nun was beating invisible demons to death with a shovel while they chatted.

Also, does that mean the father of Kristen's not-egg was just crazy and murdered his wife and child for nothing? Or are all the eggs from the fertility clinic demonic?

  16. It does look like Andy. 🤔

I'm wondering about the episode title. Did they write this as a possible series-ender? I am still not sure where in the production timeline they learned of the renewal. It seems like there is a lot to be resolved in fifty or so minutes!

Yes, but this is Kripke's usual MO.

Then we get the "twist" ending as described above.

I know we've been burnt by Kripke's other endeavours, but I sincerely hope they resist the urge to turn this adult show into an after-school special.

  18. I was 100% sure that Grace telling Sheryl she wouldn't blame her for 'tomorrow' meant the end for Andy. Of course it became clear that she knew Leland was coming for her - though I don't understand why she just sat there and let him come. Did she also foresee the Monsignor saving her? And if so, why was she okay with letting that happen? Bigger picture?

And she promised the girls Andy would be coming home next Thursday. She didn't specify he'd be coming home alive :(

Kurt Fuller is so good - Boggs' descent into madness is as fun to watch as it is horrific.

    Ben remains my favourite character.

Given where we are with one episode remaining and the fact (I think, but not positive) that they were finished filming before the renewal announcement, I am really anxious to see what the finale holds.

Maybe they’ll surprise us, and with Becca’s early influence, Ryan will become an actual SuperHERO, unlike his father & grd father.

Going by how pleased he looked that dad straight up murdered the protester at the end of S3, that seems doubtful.

  20. Just moving this over here as there is some spoiler talk beyond the Herogasm episode.

I totally understand that POV. It's a show that indulges a lot of what Kripke enjoys in terms of blood and guts (I'm sure he wishes he could've done more of it on his actual horror show), which definitely isn't for everyone. It's funny, because there was another board where I was discussing this show, there's a vocal group that's just obsessed with Homelander, but I agree with you - I think the actor's great, but if the character died tomorrow, I'd be totally ready to move on from him.

I totally loved season 1 & 2, and especially season one because it was like nothing else I'd seen, and I loved the idea of turning the superhero mythology on its head. I think maybe the Emmy nod went to their head a little though, both in terms of feeling the need to amp up everything that worked (the shocking gore, the language, 'comedy') to the extent that by the end of season three, I was left a bit fatigued by it all. A feeling definitely not helped by Kripke & Co's constant assertions that every episode, every scene, was ZOMG! GOING TO BE THE MOST EXTREME SHOCKING FUCKED UP BEST THING EVARRRRRRRRR. ZOMMGGGG!!!! The creative team has absolutely bought into the hype, IMO.

Not gonna lie, I loved every moment of Soldier Boy, and I, too, love Frenchie and Kimiko . But there was far too much 'tell' about Soldier Boy that didn't fit with the 'show', and they kinda sorta ruined Kimiko with her sing-song, gleeful murder spree in the finale. So much of the clever, adult storytelling went right out the window (including the woobification of Black Noir).

And now it seems they are going to center the next season around the battle for Ryan's soul. I'd be okay with that if it meant focus on real battles between a powered-up Butcher and psycho Homelander that ended with actual consequences (ie, Homelander's death) and Ryan was mostly offscreen. But given the actor's bump up to regular status, and the fact there's no way they are killing off Antony Starr, I have zero confidence that will be the case. The past three seasons I couldn't get the episodes quickly enough. I think I'm probably going to wait to binge next season if reviews prove me wrong.
