  1. I like this show. No major flip that involves gutting attics/basements, repairing foundations or pipes, etc. Just give a home a nice facelift. I was also baffled about her need to add a patio/porch to the front yard of each home. I suspect she is seeking a signature touch. Front porches are so NOT Southern California. So I suspect she wants people to think of her when they see a front porch and think 'it must be a Jasmine house.' Trust me. Front porches are just NOT a thing in the West except on ranches and farms. Sizes of backyards vary but they are THE space West folks use. I visited New York City and understood why when I saw children playing in front yards and sidewalks - there were no backyards in NYC. There were only alleys. I imagine the same in Chicago and many other larger cities built in 1800s and early 1900s. Backyards became a staple in the West post-WW2 during the housing/bedroom community boom. Currently, I live in Seattle and I noticed older homes had front yards and no backyard, even the mansions in Capitol Hill, however, they are all fenced with gates in front. Again, those Capitol Hill homes's 3 other sides had alleys. Seattle and San Francisco followed the models set up by older cities back East as both are one of the older cities in the West. Los Angeles, where Huntington Beach is (which I've been to), is relatively newer and the city planners appeared to learn a few things about older cities and added backyards and garages. Phoenix and San Diego are the same. So that led me to wonder if Jasmine is wanting her signature style with those front porches. She is a SoCal girl so she knows vast majority of SoCal homes have backyards and residents don't foray out to the front for socializing or reading the paper.
