Lauren is boring to watch because her stage presence is not great but she is the only artist I've bought songs from iTunes. Her voice is money. She is like Carrie Underwood on Idol. Great voice but stiff on stage.

Carrie's showmanship inproved leaps and bounds after Idol.  Lauren could too with some stage training, if she wants to go that route.

4.) while women have won this before, they've been either country, diva-singing-types, or at the very least young sexy things. A mid-30s white mom (albeit one who's a former actress) winning is a new one.

So yeah, I expected her to lose.

I think this is the oldest group of finalists for Voice since season 1? Guess America has moved on from the teens.... until next season with Miley Cyrus.

I liked the arrangement they came up with for "Every Breath You Take." I just wish someone better had performed it; she didn't have the ability to do it justice.

My mind instantly went to Pink when I read this. I bet she could do this version justice while spinning 25ft above ground. (and perhaps fitting to the lyrics I'll be watching..... ).

Hannah did fine for the most part, until the bridge - she lacked oomph for that portion. I can already see this version being used in a future DWTS episode.

  4. If I was the art judge, I would fail Dana couple more times just for her mega bitch face and eye rolling when she was told the spacing was wrong. "I don't want to talk anymore, I just want to hang these damn things on the wall."  No Princess, you don't get this handed to you on your first try. Or 2nd. Or 3rd.

Can't believe Miss one-chicken-at-a-time is in the finals.

  5. I wonder how Jessie even got involved in the first place, unless she was with Jackson on the night he decided to drive by Quitman. Unless it really wasn't a drive-by, but rather a planned assault/murder because Jackson knew Red's schedule/habits.

Jackson was wrong when he claimed the warden doesn't know who Jessie is. Ray definitely knows she is involved with the boys.

Not sure what to make of that focus on security camera at the end... was it the same cameras Jackson had installed? I have a feeling Terry and/or Ray is watching them via those tampered spycams.

  6. That stuff Noah is doing with the banana bags (whatever that is).... is it legal? I guess it is or April would have reported him. The whole thing just seem to fishy. Wonder if Noah stole it from work.

  7. Emily peaked with the audition. I'm not sure what other songs would make her vocal stylings pleasing to listen to.

    Evanescence - My Immortal

    Annie Lennox - Dark Road

Sadly those are the only 2 songs I can think of. Incidentally, both songs have similar structure, start out somber and haunting, into a more "rock-out" climax.... which probably works well for a competition.

  8. The pilot was a mess, another case of cramming two hours of drama into 47 minutes. If they spent a solid 15 or 20 minutes on the foundation of the story (the juvie drama) I would feel something for these characters.

The foundation of the story is really bad shit happened in the juvie back in the days that changed the boys (+ Jessie) lives forever. The guys surpressed those memories and moved on with their lives.... until the recent events bring it all back to the surface. One dead friend set the motion for the remaining 3 into revenge mode. Anyone who watched Sleepers already know the premise. We know how it started, and we have an idea how it will end.

Details of the the bad shit that happened in juvie will be revealed, a little at a time, over the episodes. I suspect they will continue with the back and forth past+present storytelling. We aren't supposed to know who the guy in the woods was for now, just that Jackson killed someone and Jessie was a witness/accomplice. Whether or not that's the right strategy to hook viewers ..... we'll find out soon enough.

  9.  As to those choices...Mike took a heckuva chance that there would be zero traffic.  Sure, it is more likely than not that the highway would be empty all that time.  Yet???  That was a major variable he allowed into this.  It would have made for a super scene had that samaritan happened along as this went down.  How far would Mike have gone with him/her?

How does he even know the route of the Regalo truck? Did he tail the truck?

I wonder which highway it was where the whole setup took place. From the water compass, the truck is heading south-ish. That billboard which Mike parked his car behind, as well as the hose-ropeline setup, is of something Oasis Motor Court (with a "Next Exit" graphic that looks more like a freeway map marker).

There was a green highway sign that shows how far to the next few cities, like what you see on a normal freeway. It read:

    Socorro .......... 14

    Las Cruces ....161

    El Paso  ........ 207

I-25(S) passes through all 3 cities. As do a set of highways that travels near and sorta parallel I-25. 14 miles north of Socorro would place the truck somewhere between San Acacia and Polvedera. There's NO WAY Mike could have set all that up on an interstate freeway, and the road does not look like a freeway either. The only highway-type roads going south-ish near the area is NM-408.

I guess the showdown between Mike's rhododendron hose and cartel's ice cream truck took place at a ficticious location?

  10. I didn't see any previews until tonight during The Voice, it reminded of The Sleepers. I was intrigued, didn't turn off TV after Voice and watched the pilot.

But is this supposed to be a multi-season show? Seems like it would have been better as a 10-15 episode miniseries. Otherwise, I can already feel the onslaught of convoluted triple-crossing back-stabbing plots that will just make me tune out.

Why are the boys in juvi dressed in different colored uniforms? Age group? Severity of crime?

  11. Team Christina certainly sold a lot more downloads than Team Blake, but I remain completely baffled at Nick being all the way up there in second place.  I just hope Bryan got more votes.

There's definitely some merit in using familiar/overused songs (aka warhorse in the figure skating world), as long as you don't butcher it like Kata did with hers.

It takes a special performance for me to like a song I've never heard before.... like Bo Bice with Whipping Post, Elliot Yamin with Moody's Mood for Love. Joe may have done well, but the melody of the song did not grab me and neither did the performance.

But what's worse than someone not liking the song or performance? Them forgetting it. For this playoffs, maybe it's better to be subpar than forgettable.

  12. I didn't like Natural Woman by Kata Hay. Just too much, too over the top with the yelling. Sometimes the coaches tell the singers to dial it back, and build intensity. I guess nobody told her.

Yup. It's like she's singing Artificial Woman.

  13. If I was attending the finale, I'd get Constantine a gift basket filled with various soaps. It's mind boggling how he managed to look unwashed and gross for more than a decade!

Speaking of gross, does JLo's ass really needed all that publicity? Are her Vegas shows not selling well or something? Her poor kids are gonna get mocked for that footage.

Instead of dedicating a 5-minute segment for JLo shedding her clothes, I wish they would've had all the judges performed a song or medley together. And then have Simon walk out to give his classic 'ghastly cruise ship birthday parties with karaoke clowns' critique at the end. Boom, done!

  14. I think this acts as an umbrella thread talking about everything that intertwined in the BB/BCS world, while the individual episode threads focuses on that particular episode. It's kinda tough to adhere strictly because some of the subplots span over several episodes.

For example, this season's first two episodes focused mainly on that idiot Pryce, and he did not appear for the remaining episodes... so we would not be having discussions about Pryce in episodes 'Rebecca' or 'Inflatable'.

That's my take on the purpose of this thread anyway.

  15. She's not into decorating, or yeah, is rarely there long enough to care, yet she owns a racy car.  Hmmm

Haha, had to snicker at the description "racy" car.  I have one (a 2003 gts), and while it looks sporty (not really), it drives like a sedan and corners like a delivery van. I've driven an old Oldsmobile that has better turning radius, no joke. Besides, that 3rd gen Eclipse's black paint would not last in ABQ sun. Kim did not do her research, or it was indeed a company leased mobile. :P

  16. The episode reminded of classic Breaking Bad especially the opening sequence and the copy shop scenes.  Did anyone notice Howard's purple tie and the touches of purple around HHM?  A shout out to Marie?

    It's Hamlindigo Blue, sir/ma'am.

  17. Off the top of my head, in this episode I think Miley started out strong with how she worked with Angie on how to try and navigate the rap/spoken word start to that Sam Hunt song. I mean it was still ultimately a disastrous choice that played a big role in her getting eliminated.....but I think w/out Miley's help her performance could've been much worse.

Yea I agree, it would have been a complete trainwreck without the changes Miley suggested. She was rushing through the song for reasons unknown; the tempo was off, pacing was off, her pitch was off; and worst of all, she used too many "styles" in an attempt to make the song her own. It was all over the place when she could have just sung it straight up like Zach Seabaum did in his Blinds last season.

That said, I think she would still lose to Paxton no matter what she does. This song or not.
