  1. I don't place too much importance on understanding what's going on given the people behind the show, so that's not my complaint about this episode. I feel like we spent way too much time saying "Get on with it!!" In general I liked the season but these last two episodes have been a slog.

Felix and Sylvester will bring Maeve and co back, so that's fine. But they killed Elsie stupidly.

I'll watch the next season, but I'm not as excited as I was.

Let's all make a list of all the remaining characters and predict which ones will be alive when the show ends. Then we will go back to it after the last episode and see who was closest. No discussion in this thread, just the predictions. If you want you can add one sentence for each character, for example about how they will die or where they will end up. The deadline is the premiere of season 7, July 16th.

    Here is the template:

Jon Snow: 50/50. He's already died once.
    Sansa Stark: dead
    Arya Stark: alive
Bran Stark: alivish, but stuck in a tree.
    Ghost: dead
    Nymeria: alive

    Cersei Lannister: dead
    Jaime Lannister: dead
    Tyrion Lannister: alive

    Daenerys Targaryen: 50/50
    Missandie: alive
    Grey Worm: dead
    Drogon: dead
Viserion (gold): one of the smaller dragons will surivive
    Rhaegal (green):see Viserion

    Yara Greyjoy: dead
    Theon Greyjoy: dead
    Euron Greyjoy: he's already dead

Brienne of Tarth: I really want Brienne to live, but sadly I don't think she will be.
    Podrick Payne: alive
Davos Seaworh: dead, but went out in a self sacrificing blaze of glory
    Melisandre: dead
Tormund Gigantsbane: Tormund will live FOREVER!!!

    Sandor Clegane: dead
    Thoros of Myr: dead

Samwell Tarly: Sam will survive to be the historian who writes all this down.
    Gilly: alive
    Baby Sam: alive

    Varys: alive
    Petyr Baelish: dead
    Qyburn: alive

    Ellaria Sand: dead
    Obara Sand:dead
    Tyene Sand:dead
    Nymeria Sand:dead

    Olenna Tyrell: dead
    Meera Reed: alive
    Robin Arryn: dead
    Edmund Tully: sadly alive.

    Dolorous Edd: alive and snarking
    Bronn: alive
    Jorah Mormont: dead
    Daario Naharis: alive
    Gendry: alive
Hot Pie: never seen again but alive

    The white walkers: dead...for now
    The wall: gone
The iron throne: a tasteful pool of slag.

  3. I think the big thing that annoys me about Lisette is that she seems to be a stand in for Mary to be the female foil against Foster. Like he can't be left alone without some woman keeping him sexually frustrated and fretful.

I can't take Alice seriously. She's like Civil War Barbie Doll.

  4. So much of the plot of GoT revolves around two people that are barely on the show. There's a huge divide between what people who have read the books and those who haven't on the topic and a lot is left to guesswork. So using everything but season 7 spoilers (be good), let's try to find some answer.

My question is: what was Rhaegar's plan? It could be assumed that the Tourney of Harranhall was all a setup to potentially overthrow The Mad King. Then Rhaegar gives Lyanna the wreath and a year later kidnaps her. Or they elope. Something.

At the end of Robert's Rebellion, young Ned and his mates show up at the Tower of Joy and find Lyanna and newborn Jon Snow protected by Rhaegar (who is dead now)'s best soldiers and his bestfriend. So, back up a minute. What was Rhaegar planning to do with Lyanna if he won and got control of the crown? The loyalty of the Martells was critical to his success, did he think that he would just show up with his new family and they'd be ok with the cuckolding of their sister.

Guys...another reminder: this topic is for speculation and spoilers regarding season 7 ONLY. Unless they are directly related to season 7, posts discussing Rhaegar & Lyanna or any other characters, and/or GRRM's plans do not belong in here, please take those discussions to an appropriate topic.

    Thank you.

Which topic would this covered by?

He was planning to depose his father, I think that can be traced back to the tourney at Harrenhal, and Varys screwed him over. He also told Jaime that things would be different when he returned from the war. he let things get out of hand and forgot his responsibilities to the kingdom and its subjects. The show will never give us an explanation (I mean my friend who has never read the books can't even remember who he was) what and why, and GRRM has been taking his sweet time writing all of this.

I understand all that, but what was his plan regarding Jon/Aegon and Lyanna? Was Rhaegar's desire to create Azor Ahai just a thread of several unconnected plans that all got tangled up, saving the kingdom from his insane father another? I suspect there isn't a real answer, that it just comes down to plot convenience. It just bugs me.

  7. I totally agree with Rhaegar being a sh:t if he had Lyanna name Jon Aegon. He was dead before his kids were killed by the Mountain, he can't have known that he would lose. For me this brings up a bigger question that I suspect will never be answered: what the hell was Rhaegar's big plan? He hid Lyanna away to have this baby and then goes off to fight in the rebellion that he caused. Was he planning to just show up at court one day with Lyanna and Aegon2?

That's been my sense since Felix's bird experiment. Otherwise, their actions are just bizarre.

I just realized Felix and Sylvester are also famous cartoon cats.

The Tudors were extinguished in Henry's male line in extremely short order. The dynasty, such as it was, is considered to have ended with Elizabeth I. So, as I said, very short.

European History Degree here. The Stuarts were the descendants of Henry VIII's sister Margaret Tudor who was the Queen of Scotland. So the current queen is descended from Henry VII aka Henry Tudor, but not Henry VIII. The Stuarts were cousins of Mary, Edward and Elizabeth.

Question. Why would Sansa be unhappy with R+L=J? I could see her being potentially upset that her father told a lie that hurt her mother very deeply, but being unhappy? I'm not a Sansa fan at all. Not in the books, not on the show, but her coming off as some bitter person will not do her any favors, she's already used Jon to get what she wanted (Winterfell, and also personal opinion that she used Jon).

It's possible that she'll realize that the circumstances that led to Jon's conception are the same circumstances that led to the deaths that so scarred her family, Robert's rebellion, basically everything that happened afterwards (and yes it can be argued that the Mad King would have set off a rebellion eventually in any case, but bear with me). It also will give a new level of poison to LF's comments at Lyanna's tomb. After hearing of the evil Targaryans her whole life, suddenly the "runt" bastard brother is one and now has to go South (like Rickard, Bran 1, Eddard, Robb) to face Stark enemies and possibly now unite with HIS Targaryean relative. The Starks have already paid a high price for Targaryan folly, I can see Sansa being concerned about the next round of bloodletting.

  12. Well now that I've been corrected TWICE, it doesn't make it feel any less out of character for Jon. I agree though, it's pretty clear to me that this is where things are pointing. Someone said upthread that it would be campy with the Wall collapsing sex and yes. Very Very Campy.

Jon/Dany having sex while the Wall comes down. Oh my God. I don't even know what to do if that comes true. HEY AUNTIE DAENERYS!

I'm really REALLY HOPING they don't go there. I mean I know that Targareyans are all about the incest, but given Jon's rather conflicted feelings/history with sex it feels very out of character. I mean yes he died, but it doesn't seem to have made him more open to Auntie Sex. Daenarys would probably be fine with it, though.

Also, it feels like fan service and that would be very annoying.

Having said that, I suspect we will get the literal "Ice and Fire" sex symbolism. It's been pretty clear from publicity since early on that Jon and Dany are a matched set of something. Blergh.
