  1. It was really wonderful to see Audra return, and to see Paula destroy the poker game.  But I had to fast forward through the scenes of Josh/Nathaniel/Greg since I honestly couldn't care less about any of them, and wish we could spend more time watching Paula launch her career, seeing Rebecca's mom again, and seeing a resolution for the other women on this show, since they are so much more compelling than the men.

  2. Who is Becky?  How did someone with an IQ higher than room temperature, and the ability to put a child's needs first ever wind up on this show?  I really need to know - I barely pay attention to this show, so hopefully someone who's actually been watching can tell me how this sane-appearing person is friends with Kail the hosebeast.

My mind is boggled even more by the fact that she found a SECOND man to marry her and take on those children.

And he almost seemed reasonable and sane.  Of course he must be completely nuts to marry this lunatic woman.  I'd pay good money to see him on a show with a reputable psychiatrist (that rules out another appearance on Dr. Phil) who could figure out why on earth he chose to marry that nutcase mother.

If what Leah and Cory go through with Ali's school is indicative of the frustrations parents of Special Needs children experience, then man, I have all kinds of sympathy.

They have the right to have Allie's wheelchair brought to school every single day.  Wheelchair access can be included in her IEP, which is the legal document that includes all of Ali's rights.  Schools sometimes screw around with services, but if something is included in the IEP they need to follow it or else the parents can choose to send their kid to any private school they want and the public school needs to pay for it.

Ali's parents don't have the right to choose which employee will serve as Ali's aide - the specific aide Leah wants can be reassigned according to the district's needs, but Allie can be entitled to an aide as long as it is included in the IEP, especially if her doctor submits documentation that it is medically necessary (and by the way, it was nice seeing him again in the previously segments.  I really do admire that man, who seems to love Ali and deals with her parents and their "lets pray ms away" attitude much with much more grace and patience than I would.  Although they do seem to be less clueless about Ali's condition now than in the past).

  5. Given Becky’s age, a miscarriage would be statistically quite likely.   I would imagine the primary reason Jackie would stop Becky from getting into a fistfight with the girl whose boyfriend she was trying to steal was that it would hurt the baby. Since she didn’t say anything, I’d assume Becky is no longer pregnant in the original season finale.

  6. I’m glad amber has a nanny.  I’m glad cate and Tyler’s child is in daycare. The children are safe and well taken care of during this time (assuming amber or numatt put forth minimal effort to screen a nanny).  Honestly with all the money they make off their kids, the teen moms should at least hire caring people to watch their children since most of them seem unwilling or unable to do so themselves.

There's a lot i don't like about Maci, but I continue to be impressed with the relationship she built with, and maintains, with Ryan's parents.

I completely agree with this.  I also have a ton of reservations about Maci, but her children seem to be thriving, especially in comparison to the other children on the TM franchises.

And I don't know why Amber was upset about how she is portrayed - instead of the normal footage we get of Amber complaining on the couch, tonight was different - MTV filmed her complaining in her bed.

  8. The new Greg lacks all the charm of the original actor, so this plot should have just been dropped since it isn't possible to understand the difference between the character Greg's growth, and the actor's insipid performance.  I'm finding it hard to believe that anyone not drugged would respond to learning an ex girlfriend slept with his father to be, "we've both grown."   It's only been two years, not 20.   If they had been able to get the original actor, this might have been an interesting plot development but as it is this is just a waste of air time.  And its a strange choice, since if the show is trying to prove that two people can change and enter a healthy relationship, they can do that with either Nathaniel or Josh.

Oddly, Tyler seemed fine with it. I remember HIM being disappointed when Nova was a girl. But I think he's matured a lot since then and his priorities are more in check.

I think Tyler has matured a lot since he's started to be the primary parent to Nova (I agree with the above posters that he probably has a ton of help, but he clearly also spends at least some time with her, unlike her Cate.  But I wonder if his not caring about the gender is more a function of the fact that he has completely emotionally checked out of the marriage, and is biding his time until MTV cancels the show to leave.  Then he'll disappear and newCarly the first and second will both be farmed out to whichever relative is currently not in jail or rehab.

And who finds out the gender that early??? It's all so bizarre.

There are new tests that can determine if there are chromosomal abnormalities that would cause things genetic disorders such as trisomy 13 (which usually leads to a miscarriage, but the few babies who survive to birth are expected to die within a year), or downs syndrome.  They take a vial of blood from the mother, and test the fetal chromosomes.  These tests can also reveal gender.  It's hugely controversial since it has led to much greater identification of babies with downs syndrome prenatally during the first trimester, and a significant percentage of pregnant women choose to terminate these pregnancies.   In Iceland the termination rate of babies with downs syndrome is close to 100%, although in the US the numbers are a little lower.  Its now fairly common to find out gender in the first trimester due to these tests (ultrasound for gender reveal  still usually happen later).

And a Christmas miracle came early!  Amber stayed off the couch for part of the episode 2 weeks in a  row!  Seriously, keep going.  Most of the other lumps on this show haven't made any progress, and we haven't (I think) seen Amber commit any felonies for awhile, and she's moving.

There was an interesting documentary on the issues with prenatal testing at

I can't provide hard evidence, but I feel that he has always dressed in a flamboyant/fashion forward or whatever-you-want-to-call-it way, and those viewers who didn't suspect he was gay thought it was simply hip/millennial/metrosexual styling.  Perhaps someone will do a re-watch to see if I am correct, although I don't know how you would quantify it!

I think I remember that during the election episode, didn't Miles put him in a suit and he said it looked like something his parents would dress him in to meet the bride they chose for him, and then he bombed on air and started to shine after he changed into a hip fashionable outfit.

Also, please count me in with all the others who thought this was a much better episode.  I was happy to see the main cast become stronger, and Tyne Daly and Avery are continuing to be great.

I'm wondering if Carly didn't want to see Catelynn and Tyler...Theresa may have been trying to spare their feelings but Cate and Tyler are too f****** stupid to put two and two together and figure that out.

This is certainly a possibility, as is what another previous poster mentioned about Cate and Tyler not respecting B&T's request that they stop talking about them on television.

The other possibility that could be happening here is that I think a big factor in B&T keeping the relationship open was Theresa's relationship with Cate.  When Cate was younger, Theresa had a lot more sympathy for her since she was a young girl being raised in a very dysfunctional environment.  But Cate isn't a kid anymore, and more importantly she has chosen to have Nova (and even try for another baby) without taking any responsibility as a mother and putting her child's needs first.  As a mother and someone who probably struggle with infertility, Theresa is going to be pissed seeing how Cate neglects Nova's needs.  And she's going to want to protect her child from all the chaos in Cate and Tyler's life.  The two of them can't even abide by the very simple rule of not discussing them on camera,  plus they have to worry about Butch and the rest of the random methhead relatives who cannot abide by any rules at all.

  13. Jake McDorman and Tyne Daly are both incredible on this show.  Casting did a great job of adding wonderful new actors to this show.  Candace Bergen is an amazing actress, but I hope the writing picks up a little - they haven't given her as much good material to work with.  Her interactions with Avery are great, I just wish the show's other writing was a little stronger for her.

  14. Are these people living in Deliverence?  Did I just see a doctor tell a teen couple in their hospital discharge instructions they could resume intercourse immediately?  No one ever discussed that with me in the hospital, and I was in my 30s and married when I gave birth.

And jessica please stop trying to gaslight everyone when you are on camera.  We see you being awful to Max’s family and have no sympathy for you when they refuse to show up when you snap your fingers at them.

He’s an idiot. I didn’t know about all this when I made my first statements- I just thought he was a lonely kid.

He reminds me of our neighbor's kid.  The parents are nuts, and he seems to spend his time playing soccer by himself outside on the street.  My first instinct was to try to help him and be kind to him (he's only 9 years old) but then one day he rang our doorbell and asked if he could play with my oldest child.  I told him sure, but my younger one was napping and they couldn't play in our house.  They could play in our backyard, his backyard or his house.    They left and were back 20 minutes later, making noise in the living room near my sleeping younger child.  I went downstairs and reminded them that they needed to play outside.  The neighbor kid looked me straight in the eye and said, "oh, no, we can play inside because we're not being that loud."  I didn't want to embarrass my son, and it was close to nap time ending so I let them stay.  But the next few times this kid showed up I told him he absolutely couldn't come inside, and wasn't particularly kind about kicking him out (because otherwise he'd keep coming back and I have no patience for a kid who disrespects me in my own house).  And I explained to my son the reason he was being thrown out was that he didn't respect my rules, and I wasn't going to tolerate that in my house.

I am so over this family- poor stage 5 clinger- you bitch that you don’t want him at the shower and then you bitch that how dare he not come over after you trash talk him! It’s sad this family makes me feel so sorry for S5C MAX!

This reminds me of the episode of Roseanne after Becky married Mark, and she was complaining to her mom that he was fixing cars instead of spending time with her.  Roseanne said, you mean he's working?  Becky, you're making me defend Mark.  And I hate having to defend Mark!

The kid is incredibly annoying, but they're really setting it up so there's nothing he can do that would make things right.

And why in the name of god aren't these girls all on a long term birth control (shot, ring) 6 weeks after giving birth?

  17. Chloe is truly an idiot.  I had to go back and rewatch her saying, "I wasn't breastfed and I'm like the smartest person ever" to make sure I didn't hallucinate that happening.

However, Jordan, her classmate who explained how Chloe didn't quite understand the realities of motherhood yet seemed quite articulate.  It would be really interesting if one of these shows could follow a bright teen/young mom like that to learn more about her experiences.  Realistically speaking, I'm not sure if any of these girls had much of a chance of going to college or achieving much even if they didn't become teen mothers (and you can throw almost the entire teen mom/2 franchise in with that, with the possible exception of Chelsea, whose dad would have funded various training programs until she eventually found employment.)

  18. It was pretty surprising to me to hear Raymond's mom talking about how Mariah grew up in a  nice small town, and how she grew up differently than Raymond, and to hear Raymond talk about how much more formal and high maintenance Mariah's family's baby shower was than his.  It's weird because it seems like Raymond and his mom are intimidated by Mariah, but whenever I see Mariah I just want to scrape the trashy goo off her face.      And why on earth was her mom complaining about not spending an time alone together with Mariah when they live together?  Good god, the woman is exhausting.

Why do some people think Quinn lied about the need to abort the baby?  I thought it was pretty clear by the expression on the doctor's face that something was wrong.  Did I miss something?

I honestly don't know if this is a case of television just not getting medical details correct, or evidence of Quinn lying but the level 2 ultrasound that she was talking about is given in the 20th week of pregnancy. The actress playing Quinn is a very thin woman, and unlikely she wouldn't look a pound heavier if she were 20 weeks pregnant.  If the show wanted to be accurate, it's possible for NIPT testing to have shown Quinn's baby to be at high risk of a serious chromosomal disability at 9 weeks and she still could not be showing at this point (NIPT testing is a new blood test in which the mom's blood is drawn, and they can tell if the baby is at high risk for down's syndrome or other chromosomal disorders, some of which are fatal.  A bad result of this test would indicate a mother needs an amnio to confirm and its very controversial, since a large percentage of mothers who find out they are carrying babies with down's syndrome choose to terminate.  In Iceland  nearly 100% of mothers who find out they have babies with down's syndrome choose to terminate, and in the US the percentage is about 67%, and this documentary explored this issue   https://www.cbsnews.com/news/down-syndrome-iceland/).

I don't know anything about a coke photo!  Geesh, if that's the case, I take back the "except Jade". I don't know why, there is something endearing about Jade for me.

Jade has a lot on her plate.  I was pretty overwhelmed when my first child was born, and I was married, in my 30s, owned a home and had stable employment.  Jade has her boyfriend (who admittedly has shown some flashes of kindness and potential for growth and may turn into a decent person in 10 years like Joe or Cory or Gary from the Teen Mom franchises) but who is currently struggling with employment and probably drugs.  And instead of her mother coming to help her like some of the other moms on this show, her homeless parents show up to smoke in their grandchild's nursery and stress her out.  She's a lot more patient and respectful towards her mother than the other young moms on this show, and her mom has the nerve to criticize her parenting when she can't even put a roof over her own damn druggie head.  Jade has clearly got a lot on her plate, and she has a lot more maturity than her mother.  I wish she had half the help as the wingnut who expected her mom to apologize to the loser boyfriend who stole money from her.  Also, I think being on this show makes any halfway decent person look like a saint.  Just like on TM2, Leah currently looks like a pretty decent mom compared to Janelle and Kail's houses of horrors, but in real life most people would be fairly upset that she endangers her daughter's health by not having her use the wheelchair and finding activities other than contact sports for her to engage in.

I don't fully understand June pimping herself out to be in Fred's good books and maybe I am missing something here. If she's doing it for better treatment from him or even some form of assistance, or just for an easier life, surely conforming to the rules to keep in Serena's good books would have the same effect, even though Fred has more power than Serena.

Staying in Fred's good graces might get her better treatment, such as when he let her out of solitary confinement in season 1, let her stay at their home instead of returning to the Red Center after she ran away, and got her the picture of her daughter.  When he wanted sex from her this season, he accepted her excuse of not wanting to hurt the baby and didn't force her to have any sexual contact with him aside from the kiss.  She may figure that as long as she doesn't have to sleep with him, it's probably for the best for him to think of her as the submissive doll he likes so much.
