They did have a throwaway line a couple episodes back that Jamal and Kai were in another country completing their adoption and that’s why they couldn’t be there for the wedding.
I understand not having the actor there to film any new scenes, but it was shady to cut him out of the photos and flashback scenes. I read an article leading up to the finale that interviewed Lee Daniels and he blamed the show getting canceled on the Jussie situation. That’s really stupid to hold a grudge like that because the show was already aging and in a downward slope of ratings anyway.

This is just sad. Lee just wants someone to blame and he's been blaming Jussie ever since his attack happened last year about the show being cancelled because of him, and it's not fair. It was sad how they did keep him out of the scenes, and we know how Terrence, Taraji, Trai, Yazz, Gabby, Nicole, and Vivica felt about him and the situation, but I think this is truly  sad that Lee wants to blame Jussie for the ending of the show, when it was clearly the ratings. But maybe Lee does want to feel completely accepted by Hollywood, and doesn't care who he hurts, or who he may continue to hurt in the process.

We know how Terrence and Taraji felt about the entire cast, and they truly feel as though Trai, Jussie, and Yazz are their children. It's really sweet.

She was on The Talk a few days ago. She was in her hair salon in her home in L.A.  (her happy place as she calls it). She was telling the ladies that she has moved back to L.A. now and that she held off as long as she could to see if they could make it work to film the final episodes, but ultimately it wasn’t possible.

Okay, I see what you're saying.

I agree that the likelihood of a TV movie to wrap things up is very low. Given the state of things right now, it’s going to be a year or more before we see any scripted television. I think networks are going to focus on reality shows that are cheap to produce and that can take into account social distancing. When scripted shows do come back, I think the networks will again try to focus on things that are cheap to make and have a high likelihood of ratings. Empire had a downward trajectory of ratings and they wouldn’t be able to ask sponsors for as high of a price for it. Plus, the stars already had plans to move on. Taraji has moved back to L.A. and I’m sure already had film commitments lined up. Other cast members will have similar issues.
If we compare it to Timeless that got a wrap up movie, they were suddenly canceled and then there was a huge campaign by the fans to bring it back. They got a wrap-up movie, but it was because the cast was sort of holding open a window in their schedule just in case. With Empire, they knew the end was coming this whole season so everyone has been planning for what’s next. I just don’t think there’s going to be a big enough clamor by the fans or FOX to make a movie happen.

This is very true, I don't think Taraji is back in L.A., however, because she is going to be getting married at some point when this virus is all over, but I imagine she will keep her home in L.A. But right now, I think she is still in Chicago. And I do agree with other commitments lined up for Taraji. We will just have to wait and see what's going to happen. As for the newer artists/actors, we don't know what's going to happen with their careers at this point, but even if they are working on different projects, not all of them may have careers like Taraji or Terrence in the future. Only time will tell. But if they are able to have great careers, I will be happy. But the only actors I see having great careers are, Jussie, Trai, Yazz, Rhyon, and Kaitlin, and possibly Serayah.

    So...that all happened.

For what they cobbled together, it was fine.  For what we had to sit through all season with Lucious being "shot" and Cookie being "blown up", we won't get the resolutions we want for a while until they actually make a proper 3 part finale (because parts of ep 19 got mixed into 18) or the scripts are published online.

I did like that Porsha finally got her time to shine, the Cookie a la Foxy Brown and just the idea of 'Bougie and the Ho.'  And oh, Yana finally got offed.

To the Empire...at least you had the first season that stomped all over the Nielsens ratings.  "You're So Beautiful" is still amazing, and "Drip Drop" will always be a hoot.

I agree with you, it was fine. if they don't get a chance to film the last two episodes, I'm glad we will possibly get the scripts for the final two episodes. But I liked it. I know that I wanted Tiana and Hakeem back together, but I think it was better that Hakeem ended up with Maya in the sense that it may end up to be a more mature relationship  than Tiana and Hakeem would have had,  but I am upset that Hakeem is stuck with Maya, and wished that Tiana and Hakeem got back together, because they have a family together, that's what I really wanted to happen, but I'm happy it ended on a happy note. But I do have to say, that maybe at some point, Bryshere and Serayah may have begun getting tired of all of the arguing and back and forth with Tiana and Hakeem, over the course of the series.

I loved that Porsha also got her time to shine, and I loved Cookie ala Foxy Brown situation, it's great Giselle and Kelly Patel were called out, and I loved Bougie and the Ho, as well. I was actually sad when Yana was killed, because Damon wanted to kill Lucious, but killed his daughter instead, because of the stupid grudge he had with Lucious. I still have to stream and download the songs I love from each of the seasons, "You're So Beautiful," "Ibiza," and many others were great. "Drip Drop," is great as well, and is a great song to work out too.

I really hope they are able to do something to finish the series right. What happened to all the flashbacks?

Hakeem staying with the Vegas wedding girl who keeps wearing Mrs.Lyon clothes? Please no.

Lee Daniels and Danny Strong have said that they want to be able to film the last two episodes, but it's not 100% confirmed yet, because no one knows how long this virus will last. And according to Serayah on her IG Live that she did last week, said that Hakeem and Tiana will have their happy ending.

@journalism16 I don’t know much about her outside of the show. I guess most of the cast are now trying to figure out what’s next. I think for everyone it will be about what offers come in either acting or musically as well as what they personally want to focus on. It’s a weird time for the industry in general so it’s hard to know how that will affect the prospects for everyone in the cast.

That's true, because I want to begin my acting career as well, and I'm also noticing the changes that are going on in the industry as well. But yes, It will be a change for the new actors, but not for seasoned actors such as Taraji, Terrence, Tasha, and Vivca. And because actors such as Serayah, Yazz, and others haven't been in the industry long, save for Rhyon Brown, I think it will be interesting to see what they would be personally working on, as well as trying to see what comes next for them, once they aren't working, because they have been working for 5 years on the show, they will be in for a shock once they are just sitting around, working on self tapes for auditions, and creating other things, because they don't know when their next gig will come along.

@journalism16 Hopefully Serayah will be able to take on different roles once Empire is done that will help her grow as an actor. The role of Tiana (and frankly, many of the supporting roles) has been written as somewhat one dimensional.

I hope she will be able to have that chance as well, and I believe she did well with the material that was given, during the duration of the show. Because I noticed Bryshere and others were able to take on different roles during the show's run, but she wasn't able to, because she was busy, but maybe it's also because her mom is her manager, and a lot of people feel like she may not get as far because her mom is her manager. But do you see her in your opinion, taking on other roles after Empire is over?

I think she’s okay. She’s better than some of the other actors portraying singers on this show, but nowhere near the level of Taraji. Serayah is young and has grown some since she first started on the show.

I agree with you. I feel as though she should work on the craft more, and take acting classes to be just as great as Taraji is in the future. Thanks for your opinion.

The problem is that all of the romantic relationships on this show are so toxic that it’s impossible to cheer on any couples to be together.

Yes, I definitely agree with you. This series has never really had too many happy moments except for when the family came together to fight for the company, and things like that. I have a question for you that's unrelated to the topic, but is about one of the actresses. I just want to get your honest opinion on this.

Do you think Serayah (Tiana) can act? Why or why not ? Because she hasn't gotten many roles outside of Empire.

Yeah, I agree. Tiana and Hakeem were better off as friendly exes who were co-parenting, and I wish the writers had kept that going for a while. If they'd done that, I'd be ok with them eventually realizing they still love each other. But as it stands now, the writers have had them ping-ponging back and forth so much that any reunion is likely to be anticlimatic.

I definitely agree with this, and since they have been on and off during the entire series, it would make more sense for them to work on their relationship and work out their problems, as well as coparent, because their relationship as a couple only works when they seem to be working through things together, and that's why they shouldn't get married at the end of the series, because it wouldn't make any sense for them to marry at the end of the series at all.

  11. I agree with everything you said about this episode. But I don't know how many times we are going to keep spinning on this merry go-round with Tiana and Hakeem. But one of the things I noticed Tiana tell him about the night of the ASA's that it was a mistake, and he told her, "Yeah, it's a mistake until it happens again, right?" I realize that they both love each other, and things have happened in the past that are hard to forget, but this is why I don't believe they should marry at the end of the series, because they haven't been honest with each other about a lot of things, and they don't know each others' wants and needs, and I think they need to work on this, and communicating before they can ever be married, so I feel like they will be better off in a relationship that they need to work on, to build a foundation for themselves, and their kids.

This was a pretty loaded episode. Lucious' visit with his mother was a doozie - it's hard to tell if Leah is truly out of her mind, or lucid and intentionally hurtful, or a combo of both. Whenever she says something to Lucious, he is always rocked back on his heels by it. She's the one person that can just get to him in a way no one else does, and he's always the worse for interacting with her...which I think she knows, and sort of enjoys.

The Miami scenes were awesome. I especially liked the big drag queen. So fun! The three sisters have come a long way in their relationship with each other, and thank goodness, for the better. They truly have each other's best interests at heart and know how to lift each other up when needed, as well as bring each other back down to earth. I wonder how they got out of jail, though!! I hope those actresses have as much fun with those roles as they seem to be - their scenes together are always very authentic and hilarious.

I knew Tiana was going to rebel against the church ladies. But does this mean her pro-choice fans are willing to overlook Tiana's pro-life stance merely because they approve of her one moment of defiance? It sort of doesn't make sense...if someone turned away from Tiana because they don't like her pro-life stance, they're probably not going to support her just because of one stunt. Unless Tiana openly expresses a change of heart about abortion, has anything really changed? I guess we'll find out. I wonder if Tiana knows that both Becky and Giselle have had abortions, and what she would think of the circumstances/context of each situation.

I enjoyed this episode, and I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said, Biggie B.

I'm ok with them making Lucious a bitch again. I'd still like to get my Who Shot Lucious mystery. We've had long-lost kids, Jamal and Andre almost dying, the Cookie-Anika catfight, etc. so we need a Who Shot Lucious mystery to complete this game of soap trope bingo.

I liked seeing Cookie go to therapy, even though her therapist should clearly have fired her-lol

That flashforward to Cookie's car exploding with her in it has to be a misdirect, right?

I agree with you about this episode. And I agree that Cookie's car exploding has to be a misdirect.

Ok this episode has made me really just hate Lucious. Before, I used to love to hate him because he could be entertaining and sometimes downright hilarious but this episode has done nothing but highlight the issues with "Coocious" and the fact that Lucious truly doesn't care about Cookie. This season he's even acknowledged that he knew Cookie didn't actually sleep with Damon and still considered leaving her. To. Die. The mother of his children. His supposed best friend. In the hands of a madman who claimed he was going to freaking to kill her. I just can't with this guy.

What has annoyed me about this show is that nearly every guy who has had a romantic interest in Cookie has either ended up crooked/evil or screwed up in some other way. I feel this that was done to make Lucious look better in comparison which, honestly, can't be done considering the fact he literally killed her cousin–with his own hands! His affair with Damon's daughter is barely enjoyable because I swear she sounds like  some freaking generic fortune cookie/inspirational quote generator. Snore.

The B and C plots so far have ranged from meh to annoying. I like the idea of watching Becky grow her empire and fleshing her out more as a but her making uncalculated risks with what little money her and Giselle's company has in OOC. However, because I know this show will take a page of the book of cliches I just know that the singer will pull through and become a success.

Also Tiana making the comment of all lives mattering after hearing that another woman was having trouble with her pregnancy really sparked controversy? In this day and age? Girl, bye. I also see that this show is still trying to make Treasure a thing. The sad thing is that the writers haven't made her into some formidable rival, secretly likable or anything interesting, she just comes off as desperate and unoriginal while still maintaining those same subpar acting skills. I feel like this pro choice/life thing is gonna become of some importance to her but I just can't bring myself to care.

Ghost Kingsley is just....weird. He has no purpose other than being the monkey wrench is Andre's life and for lack of a better word it's just...weird. Then again, that could be because I hate the old "ghost talking to a main character" thing, but I guess it's justified since it's happened before. I think that the hallucinations are a crappy ploy to either set Andre up as a red herring or foreshadow a path towards killing Lucious, which I'm all for.

Lastly, I just want more for Cookie. She deserves it after being crapped on this whole series which seems hellbent on making her go insane. Seeing her being reduced to damsel in distress looks crazy when juxtaposed against the character she was back in season one.

I definitely agree with everything you said, Asiagosauce! But I also agree with what you said about Tiana and Treasure and Becky and Giselle. This season, even though I'm watching is sorely missing the family dynamic and the writers are trying to bring more storylines for the supporting characters, because they truly have nothing to work with, which is fine. But the supporting character's story lines just seem to me to be very stale. And I think it shows, because you notice, the music from season 6, has been sparse on Youtube. So I don't know how the series will end.

About Tiana and Treasure, I agree that they're trying to make Treasure a formidable rival for Tiana, just as they made Nessa be a formidable rival for Tiana in season 3. But about her storyline, I know that she is supposed to focus on her career as well as the kids and coparenting, I didn't understand the controversy either. Because Terry and Andre's son survived, and is quite adorable. But I think she was saying what she said to her fans on social media, to show that because all lives matter, she was saying this in case something happened to her children's cousin and aunt. So I understand it from that standpoint.

About Becky and Giselle, I think the artist who is too shy to sing, will be a complete success. But I hope they can afford new artists. But about Becky's family situation, I didn't understand why she is having family issues now, because throughout the entire show, we had never seen one person from her family, and they are writing her family in now? It's very hard to believe she is having family issues, when we have never seen her family during the entire run of the show. That's like adding Tiana's family into the show now, when Tiana mentioned in season 1, that she was raised by her big mama, and then this season, we end up seeing her parents and grandmother when they had only mentioned the grandmother raising her in season 1. It doesn't make sense at all, and it wouldn't make sense to ever see Tiana's family now, when the audience has never seen them throughout the run of the show, when her grandmother was only mentioned in season 1. (The writers would probably not deal with Tiana's family, though.)

She is a hit and miss. I think she is charismatic, beautiful with potential. If she invests in acting classes and studies her craft, she may have a future. I could see Lee Daniels working with her again. He hired Gabourey, put her on Empire after having worked with her on Precious.

I agree with you, I think she may have a future if she takes acting classes, and I see Lee working with her again as well. Gabby is doing great, and even though I didn't see Precious, (I've seen it recently,) but I thought she did well in that movie.

I don't know about  the show having many years left. Star just got cancelled. I think the show's future is contingent upon Terrence and Taraji wanting to continue the series.  Taraji works consistently with her projects and she has said that Cookie takes a lot out of her. I have no doubt that Terrence Trai and Bryshere will work as well when the show is done.  Trai in particular was wasted on the show. He is gorgeous, talented and he could sing. Lee had no idea what to do with him other than misery and angst.  I really liked Jamal but he got most of the attention. Even Jamal never realized his full potential as a mini Luscious.

I agree with you. What do you think about Serayah's (Tiana) acting? And do you think she will have steady work as an actress after Empire is over? The reason I ask this is because I think Serayah is a good actress, and she's only had two other acting roles besides Empire and Tiana. But the majority of comments I read on YouTube (of all places,) is that she can't act. What do you think?

  17. I loved this episode. I think Andre and Hakeem's relationship is great, and they have come a long way. I am not sure I understand what Maya is doing, but I understand more why her mother may have come to speak with Cookie. It makes me wonder what their conversation will be about.

I think Becky is hurt because Jamal is now with Kai, and planning to spend the rest of his life with him, so I think she feels like she is losing her best friend. Lucious at that poker game and Cookie looking for new artists was good, but hopefully, this Damien Cross does not cause the family to possibly turn against each other, and I want to know who he is, and how does Cookie know him, and why?

Is the season ending earlier this year, than previous seasons?

  18. I loved this episode, it was great to see Jamal so happy and I'm glad  he and Kai are engaged. It was so sad to see that Tiana and Hakeem were having twins, and then to lose Princess was heartbreaking to watch. But Tiana has put up with a lot from Hakeem, and I don't blame for being fed up with how he is acting. But I'm glad she will be there for Bella, and raise Prince. And she is also trying to help him with his issues.

I am happy that Cookie and Andre had a talk about his time in prison, it was really sweet. But I can't wait to see next week's episode.

So, is Hakeem just forgetting that Anika killed Andres wife and unborn child? I mean, I get why he would be upset, and not that what happened with Anika wasn't wrong (as hard as I cheered when it happened. Which I did) but Anika almost took baby Bella away from them like thirty times. She wasn't exactly mother of the year, and on top of his other shit, he is just coming off as super whiny. Not totally wrong about either of his brothers, but still whiny.

Nothing gets all the Lyons together like a common enemy. Unfortunately, this tech guy doesn't seem like much of a real threat. Especially compared to some of their past enemies they've taken down.

Hakeem and Jamal didn't know that Anika killed Andre and Rhonda's child, because even though it was mentioned in season 4, about Rhonda's death, I think they just assumed both of those tragedies were accidents. They would not kill off a member of the Lyon family, although at this point, it could be possible, although I definitely don't think it's Hakeem in that casket.

I agree that Anika wasn't exactly mother of the year, but we all know what she really wanted by having Bella, she wanted to be a Lyon, and it happened for a while, but ultimately, the only Lyon from her side of the family is Bella, and I understand why he is upset, but he didn't know that. But Anika got what she deserved in the end.

  20. I loved this episode, this season continues to be great. I think watching the episode gave us a better sense of how they will establish their new company. I love the addition of Devon, it seems as though his story will make the Lyons reflect more on their lives, in the sense that they need each other in this struggle that they are experiencing, more so now, than ever.

Kai and Jamal, the whole storyline seems so heartbreaking. I hope something good will eventually happen for Jamal. I loved that Andre came home, and he may be a lot of help to his father in this new role that he has, since prison has made him stronger. I loved that Hakeem and Tiana were able to have a moment together in this episode. I have to agree with someone who said that Hakeem has experienced a lot since the shooting, but he definitely needs to get some help from a respiratory therapist. And I also agree that the writers are focusing more on Hakeem's love life, and his family, more than him wanting to have Empire. I'm still not sure about Blake and Tiana.  It seems like the writers are heading for a relationship with them. Will Hakeem fight for his family, or will this possibly be the end for Takeem? It will be interesting going forward, but I don't want to see Takeem possibly break up for good, but we shall see what happens in two weeks.

  21. The episode was great. I think everything seemed to go well for the Lyons, but there is a time and place for everything, and like someone else said, Cookie can't pop off at everyone. As for Hakeem and Jamal's duet, I loved it. And as for getting ahead of Kingsley, that was brilliant that Jamal used the royalty clause in his contract to bring in more money.

I look forward to seeing what may happen with Diana still involved in the lives of the Lyons, and I don't think Kingsley will be able to get what he wants from her, but we shall see. Also Tiana and Blake... I don't know what to think about that. And, I wish he had told her Hakeem wrote the song. I look forward to next week.

I think people worry a bit too much about what Disney owning something means. In the sense that some think Disney only runs family stuff. They have many different studios they own that do all types of content. They aren't going to change anything content wise. Shit, empire is tame compared to the Netflix marvel shows.

It just comes down to what fox plans to do. Fox is pivoting towards more live content ( pro wrestling, live sport, music) so it just becomes, what else do they want to keep on roster.

As long as Empire keeps killing that demo ratings network tv loves, it should be fine. Unless you are CBS, you can't afford to throw away hit shows these days.

I agree with you, because when I was looking for employment with Disney in Public Relations, I took a look at everything they own and acquired on their website, and they own quite a lot, and you are also right about the content. But ultimately, it all comes down to what Fox ends up doing, and I definitely know Empire will be fine in the demo. I don't think people should worry so much.

Fox is slowly changing over to New Fox because of Disney buying out 20th Century Fox and their TV division but not including the Fox network itself.  So shows that were made "in house" may not be theirs anymore and will have to buy it from Mickey Mouse in order to broadcast.  So the question becomes, what happens to the show after this season once it gets acquired by Disney?  Stay the same?  Radical changes?  Who knows?

Those are very good questions, I guess we will have to wait and see.

Journalism nothing against the actress, just never liked the Tiana character; she was a bitch to Hakeem in the earlier seasons and never liked her since.  He should have stuck with either Laura (the Latina virgin) or the recent one on the movie set.

I see what you are saying, Tiana's attitude in previous seasons did turn people off, including me, because she was so mean to Hakeem. So, do you think she will change for the better or worse this season, even though she now has a son with Hakeem? Well, Laura's parents weren't happy with their lifestyle, and would have always worried about the safety of their daughter. And Haven, I think he only used Haven to make Tiana jealous, so I don't think that was supposed to be a long term relationship.
