  1. X is Laverne Cox’s twin brother, I’m pretty sure. Brittany is Brett Favre’s daughter.

L.C. looks really familiar. I feel like I’ve seen her somewhere before.

This show is going to be my new addiction!

  2. Oh boy, Julie is going to bring the drama all this season, isn't she?

I gained a lot more respect for David/Tokyo in this episode than I had during his original season. I liked how he handled that conversation with Julie. (And I loved "Come On Be My Baby Tonight" as part of the show intro!)

Matt looks like he hasn't aged a day since he was on the show. Melissa is absolutely stunning now.

  3. If I remember correctly, Jay's visa (possibly Mike's as well) prevented him from working/doing anything commercially while he was in London. That's why he did his play at the house instead of the theater as planned. I know he mentioned something about it during that episode.

I was skeptical about using rock songs for ballroom dances, but some of the Queen songs were surprisingly appropriate for various styles. "I want it now" really lent itself to a Jive, "Somebody to love" worked well for a Waltz, "We Will Rock You" was great for a Paso, and Jenna did fantastic Tango choreography for "Body Language."

I was listening to "Seven Seas of Rhye" this morning and thought it would be perfect for a Paso.

Tyra's stylists continue to hate her.

Bummed that The Miz was eliminated, but I didn't want Jojo and Jenna gone either. Cody and Olivia should be the next to go. I want to like Cody better (his story about his best friend was very moving) but he's just kind of meh for me.

I like Jimmie more and more every week.

I don't know if Sister Havana was referencing something specific, but LT has a whole section on his wikipedia page entitled "Run-ins with the law" and another about "drug and lifestyle problems."

Ray Lewis had this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Lewis#Murder_trial (his charge was dismissed after he testified and pleaded to a misdemeanor charge of obstructing justice)

I was referencing his multiple run-ins with the law. I should have mentioned Ray Lewis. Michael Irvin and Andy Dick, too!

Re: Olivia Jade and le scandale: DWTS is like Redemption Central! Ryan Lochte, Rod Blagojevich, Tom Delay, Sean Spicer, Lamar Odom. I'm  surprised Monica Lewinsky  hasn't  been on!

Rick Perry was the former governor (of Texas) who did the show. Others who could fall into the redemption category: Lawrence Taylor, Tonya Harding, and Paula Deen.

Tyra’s stylist for the show apparently still hates her. *lol*

My final four as of now: JoJo, Amanda, Mel C (who DOES NOT AGE), and Suni. The Miz and Melora are my dark horses. But there are so many good dancers this season, nobody except Martin would be truly shocking to make it to the final.

In the original season, they filmed cast interviews but did not have an open confessional.  I remember Norm in the tub, Becky on a roof wearing a scarf, Andre on a window ledge, etc.

The open confessional was added in later seasons. Trying to remember if there were any group confessionals from LA and I'm drawing a blank. I definitely remember the SF cast filming one with multiple people.

They added the confessional room starting with LA. As far as group confessional sessions, I’m pretty sure Flora and Melissa did one together in Miami, and in the first New Orleans season, Julie and Melissa’s confessional the morning after Mardi Gras (I think) where Melissa described being in bed with a Mormon on one side of her and a naked gay man on the other was a classic.

Heather and Julie need some type of spin-off together. Not a permanent show, just a short one season. I'm glad they are still friends.

I would totally watch that. Their friendship was one of my favorite things about their original season and it continues to be one of my favorite things.

The Color Factory looks like so much fun! I want to go there sometime.

Are Julie & Andre the only parents out of the seven?  That's interesting.

Eric has at least one child, and I think there was a mention that Heather has a child too.

This episode felt like a big warm hug to me. I'm so looking forward to the rest of the episodes!

My favorite is Nastia Liukin's subway-car Charleston with Sasha and Derek (Sasha filling in for the main part of the dance because Derek was injured), with Andy Grammer singing live.

This was one of my all-time favorites, and one of the few times I thought having troupe members in the background was absolutely appropriate for the (non-freestyle) routine.

I was reminded again how much I enjoy watching Derek dance, and I loved his nod to Fred Astaire’s hat rack dance from Royal Wedding. I also hope he returns as a judge next season- he gave very specific, constructive critiques.

Not terribly surprised Kaitlyn won, but she was my least favorite of the four finalists. I did like her freestyle.

    Nev was robbed!

  11. I would rather have had Johnny in the finals over Kaitlyn. She's a good dancer, but something about her just leaves me cold. I can't explain it. I loved Johnny and Britt's partnership and I just enjoy Johnny in general.

I would be fine with any of the other 3 winning. (I didn't pick any of them to win or even get to the finals when the cast was announced - go figure!) I didn't realize Nev would be as good as he is,  and he's been consistently so. Nelly has visibly improved during the season, he works hard and he's taking it seriously, not just coasting along knowing the size of his fan base. And Justina is just a joy to watch.

The change I really hope they keep for future seasons is not having the troupe involved in every single dance. I get that it was made by circumstances and not necessarily by choice, but it's been refreshing to have the focus on the star and partner, not all sorts of backup dancers.

I just am not understanding Tyra’s wardrobe choices. Her body is amazing but save for her first dress tonight (which I liked), everything has accentuated her hips or waist and made her look so much bigger than she is. I don’t get it at all.

I’m wondering if the stylists hate Tyra. She’s a beautiful woman with an amazing body, but that dress was just super unflattering. (And if that dress is so unflattering on her, who the heck would it flatter? Yikes.) I would think that Tyra would have final approval on her wardrobe, though.

  13. I was getting an Alfonso Ribeiro vibe from Baby Alien. Some of the clues seem to fit: he starred in The Tap Dance Kid on Broadway and performed with the rest of the cast at the 1984 Tony Awards. (Alfonso comes in about halfway through the number) Second gear could refer to playing sidekick roles: think Alfonso on Silver Spoons and Carlton on Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Pursuing other passions: he’s done lots of other things. Plus he can sing and I feel like he’s the type of person who would do the show.

  14. The fake audience noise was way too loud. I was watching with my mom, and we could barely hear Tyra and some of the music over it. I’m glad they ditched the band, though. And I miss Tom and Erin!

I thought AJ and Johnny were underscored. Nev was really good - I was not expecting that. I think Charles and Carole will be the first two out.
