  1. I am ready to voice my opinions on this episode and the episode from last week. (Sorry, I got really tired in the middle of the food truck episode so I had to go to sleep last night.)

So, for the food truck challenge...

I was very surprised to see Carson eliminated.  I had him figured for a finalist if not the winner.  The judges had nothing good to say about Londyn's dish so I'm not sure why they decided his was worse unless it was his poor judgment for including the bacon not-so-brittle.  I didn't think the size of his sandwich was worse than the flaws in her entries.

    Eric is highly annoying.

I didn't see the first season.  What is wrong with Fuller?  He's clearly older and more mature than his size would indicate so I assume his condition/treatment has stunted his growth and he appears to be on large doses of prednisone.  He did look rather bored with the whole thing.

I was surprised to see Carson go too. But his waffle looked awfully delicious even though it wasn’t airy and it was hard to eat.

You know, I think it’s hard to make a dessert savory these days because you end up losing the challenge almost every single time.

What is it specifically about Eric that makes him annoying?

Fuller has some type of cancer (I don’t know specifically; it’s probably breast cancer). Remember last season when he was really sick and had to go to the hospital, but then he came back on TCJR and eliminated himself because he said he felt really sick? That’s why he looked bored. Some people with cancer get tired a lot...

    For the all-around-the-world challenge...

The preheat was meh. I don’t think it was necessary to have these kids’ parents shop for them when they have shopped themselves this whole competition. Especially Londyn’s mom...she looked pissed with Londyn.

I think these kids are old enough to know that they have responsibilities and I think the idea of their parents shopping for them is just weird and stupid. I refuse to shop for my 12 yr old daughter when she can shop herself.

I thought Noah was absurd when he substituted the real name for the continent (Australia) with Oceania. Having not studied geography since 1982, I don’t remember my teacher ever saying Oceania.

One more thing: Vanessa’s clothing kind of irked me. Her tits were showing a little bit (Giada and Food Network Star, I’m talking to you.

    Questions about this episode:

Who do you think would be the final three or two? (I would be really surprised if the final two were Eric and Rodgers)

Who is your favorite, and who annoys you?

What did you think of the “parents shopping for your kids” preheat challenge? Did you think it was nice, or was it just an absurd idea?

I can't believe Sharon didn't get kicked off.  Her PEE-ken pie looked horrible and didn't seem to wow any of the judges, versus blue haired woman with a salty crunch garnish?  Are they just keeping her because she's a home cook?

Her name is Sherry. And it also was under baked, so I am not happy to see her back on the show.

Do you also think Sherry should have been the one sent home?

More questions: Is anyone still annoyed with Nancy Fuller? The obnoxious behavior, the glasses-over-her-head hairstyle, etc? Please stop with the behavior, Nancy, it’s annoying. I know you’re 69 years old!

If you were to pick a new set of judges on this show, who would they be?

Who is your favorite contestant right now? Is it unique little Julia with the accent, or awesome Lebron (is that his name?) who always cares about his daughter?

    Thoughtful responses:

Sherry Clark immediately annoyed me, as well as Sarah Lucia Tafur.  First thing out of Sarah's mouth was "I never heard of pumpkin spice - did it come from a pumpkin?"   Where do they get these people??

My response to Sarah would be “Hey, you know there’s a thing called Google. You know how to get to it? Go to your iPad, click on the Safari link, and search for ‘origination of pumpkin spice’.”

Sherry Clarke doesn’t really annoy me. In fact, none of the bakers annoy me that much. Just the underbaked cake and the poor decorations.

I've read that Giada only tastes the tiny bit off the fork, and then spits it out.   At least Lorraine really tastes what she takes.

I think Lorraine is imitating Giada because she wants to lose weight (+ that’s a way to lose really good weight)! And she already is nice and thin so no need for the tiny bites! I believe some people do get inspired by people eating tiny bites of food at a time to lose weight, and sometimes if you try it with a man he will probably lose a lot more weight than a woman.

  3. Olivia was the right one to go last night.

My new favorite is Carson. He cooks food that is REALLY appetizing.

A couple of questions to ponder:

Who is your favorite chef so far?

Do you think the zombies were real people or just fake?

Were you bothered by Vanessa (with the gruesome dress) and the rest of the judges saying the word “gruesome” over and over again? I was. They said it like a million times during the show.

Who’s elimination challenge dish would you eat?

  4. This season I think is so far, so good. I was sad to see Simon go.

Susan Feniger was a great judge and I was happy to see her on the show.

I remember Joe Flamm being on TCJR’s latest season and I was happy to see him here.

The expedites didn’t bother me that much (although I strongly prefer Kristen over Brooke, so...)

  5. Sorry, but I knew this one. But Kate was so adorable! (That smile she always wore on her face brought back memories.) I appreciate that she tried her hardest in this competition, and next time I go to Texas, I will try and visit her cooking school so I can know how to cook.

@jcbrown, Nikki putting her arms around Kate was very nice and warm and she is a very good friend.

Fun fact or rather in my view creepy fact: Curtis’s wife Lindsay Price mother was adopted by her father’s family and they were raised as brother and sister before they got together.

Really? Family members can adopt somebody from the SAME family?

  6. Well, I enjoyed it. I was pretty surprised that Kate got saved (was not expecting it), but she almost didn’t put ANY chicken on her dish, so I knew she was the least favorite.

Roger’s pizza in the main heat did not look like a pizza at all! It looked like a croissant.

Busy Phillips was a great judge for this episode and I feel like she was fair with the kids.

I love Carson.  Can Nicole go home already?  She should have been the first to go.  She had Ricotto and wantons.  Her other dish sucked too (Sorry but when we first saw her with Vanessa and how she was with her, then with her food, she should be gone).  Richard liked the meatballs.  She better not win.  I saw the clips and it looks like she is there in later rounds. The envelope is stupid.  You lose, you lose.  You want to save someone, have a last chance kitchen then.  You could save someone who doesn't deserve to be saved.   Oh well.

There is no Nicole or Richard on Top Chef Junior. What are the actual names of the contestants?

Did the jars serve the same purpose?  I don't understand why they have random saves at all.  There are plenty of kids so the season will be long enough without them.  I might be OK with it if saving a kid who has been doing very well and has a bad day falls to the judges to decide but, the way it's set up now, someone skating by could be saved even though he or she made something awful.

I gave very little thought to Katie getting sick.  It happens and she had immunity so it wasn't like she was faking to avoid something.  Katie missing a challenge had no effect on game play at all.

The jars served the same purpose, yes. Last season there were like 12-15 episodes and the same number of jars were there, but there were only 3-4 saves throughout the jars, but this season I think they decided to cut it.

I never saw Vanessa or Curtis tell Kate that she doesn’t have to do the challenge, so that’s why I thought it was perfectly normal.

Why is there an envelope at all?  I didn't see last season and I don't recall hearing them explain how it works this time around.  It sounds like one of the kids could submit a truly horrendous concoction and then get saved by a random envelope.  Presumably, one of the kids holds the envelope so no one can accuse the judges of rigging that decision.  How do they decide which kid?

I think Curtis does a great job with the kids.  I always enjoy seeing Sheldon.

Wonder what happened to the jars? Do you think the saves are useful on this show, or can they go?

What did you think about Katie getting sick? I think it was perfectly normal. I’ve seen that happen before.

Vanessa has improved a LOT and I like her now.

  9. Overall, I like the episode. I like Simon so far, and Tyler was the right choice to go home.

They measured on the boot camp episode and Curtis was slightly taller but that could be because of Curtis’s spiky hair!

If Curtis were to shave his hair off, then Carson would be taller than him. But it’s a growth spurt.

But macaroons and macarons are two different things, no?

Macaron and macaroon are just spelled differently.

Sorry to see Issi walk out the door, but it was the right choice, though. That frosting just needed more sugar. And Issi was right that Valerie and Duff were throwing too much jokes out at them before the finale.

On 9/12/2018 at 5:26 PM, luvapickle said:

Yes, I bake both. I say you want the coconut ones, or the almond ones? Macarons, I feel need that little touch of French. And I only speak Midwest.

My daughter really wants to eat macarons and she has a dairy/nut allergy. Is there a coconut version?

Who is your favorite and who do you want to win?

But he DIDN'T ask. That's my point. He didn't know what a cookie bar was, so he just guessed (incorrectly). My question was, is it against the rules to ask? It seems like it must be, because I don't see any other reason why they don't ask when given an assignment to make something unfamiliar.

He might have just went up to Duff and Valerie off camera and asked them what it is and they told him? Remember that boy from a couple seasons ago (Justice) that didn’t know what Black Forest cake is?

I am not very squeamish, about the only "ick" factors that would get me would be insects - but that would be way over the top for Worst Cooks.  I thought most of them did pretty well on dealing with what they were given!  And it's always fun to watch them make pasta, which is actually not difficult at all (maybe because I grew up making homemade pasta?)

Would you watch the show if they brought in meats like alligator and pig ears next week?

I love Duff and Valerie.  It's a pleasure to watch hosts who clearly like each other and enjoy working together.

Weren’t you happy when Valerie smiled at Natasha and calmed her down, because that made her rise up to the top really fast!

    8 hours ago, Jillybean said:

Is it against the rules for Matthew to simply ask the judges "what is a cookie bar?" Amazingly, he won the challenge without properly executing it, so maybe it doesn't matter. If they're going to saddle the kids with things they've never heard of (calamari) or, for that matter,  things I've never heard of (veggie pesto lasagna) then they should be permitted to ask for clarification.

Maybe not. I think he just asked what they were because he DID NOT know. And I think it’s perfectly okay, it’s just someone asking what it is.

Were you sad to see Saylor go home? I was. She was my girl!

I loved Darci Lynne on AGT! She was a singing ventriloquist on the show and was amazing and really funny, but I agree that she didn't add much to last night's show. I think someone just thought it would be fun to have her there since she won a major competition show at age 12.

If I am right (quote me if I am wrong) Darci Lynne was on Little Big Shots. I think, don’t guarantee. Have you seen her on LBS?

  14. Well, that’s Episode 4, guys! What did you think?

This week, the contestants are going to face their fears. I felt really sorry for Rudy that he got Rocky Mountain oysters and anchovies - eww, gross! Were you disgusted by any of the other items that were displayed - pig ears, alligator, etc.? That’s what this was all about.

I appreciate Carla trying to think it through this week.

Making pasta with squid was really hard. It made a bunch of people squeamish when they first saw it. I think it was fun to watch them replicate their mentors’ dishes. Squid ink is a very unusual ingredient people use, and I feel most of these people did well.

Janese and Bradley did really well and rose to the top. I loved when Mr. Irvine created a suspenseful moment to finally reveal that Bradley’s food was amazing. I mean, he does that all the time.

I think Sarah really struggled this week. She just didn’t have the confidence.

I had the impression that Matthew made sure the camera was on him for his crying.  Something about it looked wrong to me.  Just a feeling, I'm a Matthew fan.

Is this the first time that neither Taylor nor Saylor were in the top two?

Me too, and I’m glad he didn’t go home because his bow tie was cute.

Davey was the clear choice to go home. Does anybody not think he made his plates look like a 5-year-old made them?

I love calamari.  The actual squid meat is white, but it's fried, so the outside is (supposed to be) golden brown.  So Duff was technically right, but wrong too.

I never have eaten calamari before, but it looks delicious.

  16. Oh man, what a HORRIBLE episode. Could you watch even one minute of it? Could you watch Shrieking Kimberly, Winner-Winner-Chicken-Dinner Copan, or playful and over-the-top Jimmy? Could you handle Robert and Anne mocking and laughing at these people? Yeesh, this show shouldn’t even be on TV.

    1. All the raw chicken in the preheat challenge. Has anybody seen cooks that cook like this? Do you think raw chicken is a ridiculous mistake, or a way to learn a better cooking method?

    2. The judges. Anne and Robert are thinking it is funny that Kimberly is completely afraid of birds, and so is Janese. Come on!

    3. Kimberly’s reaction. What a big, phony, and terrible reaction to one dead bird! It’s a dead bird, not everybody is scared!

    4. Sarah’s reaction. “I ain’t no chicken.” She can tackle this. Do you think she would win?

    5. I actually think Carla did well, and it paid off. She should own a fried-chicken restaurant one day.

    6. Did you see any of these cooks wash their hands after handling a dead bird? They should have.

    7. So glad Kimberly and Copan went home. Kimberly’s over-the-top shrieking was just horrible, and Copan’s chicken was enough to send him home. I didn’t think it was a winner-winner chicken dinner.

    8. Anne and Robert’s popping out of popcorn cans was just simply OTT.

I don't understand why they used a pudgy kid for the Skippy commercial - let your kids snack on Skippy peanut butter and they'll be overweight.

I use my right index finger to open my iPhone. One day when I turned on my phone, a person sitting next to me said "I thought you had to use your thumb!" This was a person who clearly doesn't understand fingerprints.

And the jingle is so annoying. “Smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy!”
