    S06.E02: Loch Henry

Aside from the techno aspect, the distinguishing feature of Black Mirror is the way it seems to take place in a slightly alternate version of our world. This just felt like our world.

    Also, I spent the whole episode thinking the mother was played by Tracy Ullman. I've never heard of that actress before but she bears an uncanny resemblance to her.

    I don't watch a whole lot of Lifetime. I do occasionally watch some Dateline. I definitely listen to a decent number of true crime podcasts, so there's that.

    I agree that it wasn't a typical BM episode but I liked it, possibly because it was so close to "our world."

    Also, thank you for helping put a finger on who that actress reminded me of. I was like: "Oh, haven't seen her in a while...oh wait..."

    S06.E01: Joan Is Awful

    I laughed a lot more than I normally do at a Black Mirror episode, so that makes it a win for me. I enjoyed the meta.

    I was also reminded of the early days of streaming/vlogging when someone would basically leave a camera on in their room and people could see everything that happened in that room, no matter how mundane it was. 20 years ago, maybe? There were some who foretold that if this were to become popular and it were monetized and corporatized somehow, privacy lawyers would have a field day. And...here we are! Welcome to the future! 😂

    S04.E13: The Live Reunion

    In episode 1 Kwame said that he couldn't take his date to prom because he was black and ever since then he's felt like he had to go out of his way to prove himself to (presumably white) people. That statement immediately drew a side-eye from me.

    I'm black, with a name that wasn't actually considered "black" when I was born (I was named after a white woman) but is considered "black" now (in that typically women and girls who have my name are black). It never would have occurred to me to present myself as anything other than me (my name). I realize that that has a lot to do with both when and where I grew up, though.

    As for the reunion in general? Yawn. I didn't ever need to see Jackie, Josh, or Irina again. And Micah can miss me with her BS.

    S04.E12: Eternal Bliss?

    Well, the only one I got right was Brett/Tiffany, and even then they had me doubting a little bit.

    I've warmed up to Kwame a little bit after hearing about his super-religious upbringing. It was great to see his sister and brother there at least. That said, I wish he'd said no to Chelsea. What originally looked like cool independence is now translating as potentially controlling. Not a good look IMO. (On whether Kwame and Micah should have gotten together: I don't think they would have made it to the altar TBH.)

    I still think Zach and Bliss should have said no and waited a little longer. That said, I think Zach was like "sometimes you just have to take a leap" and I can't get mad at that. Also, I cackled when Bliss said "you're a lawyer so you can get us out of this if you have to" while holding up the signed marriage license.

    I'm not going to rewatch these episodes but I'm wondering if it was ever clear (based on editing) that Paul knew Micah might not be the one. That statement about him not seeing himself marrying her in 5-10 years' time (or something like that) was pretty definitive. I probably missed something, though.

    I wish I could feel sorry for Micah but I, like, can't, like, feel, like, sorry for someone who, like, is such a, like, mean girl. (Shall we count the number of "likes" she says at the reunion? If we make it a drinking game we're all going to get wasted.)

    I'm curious to know if we're going to see Marshall, Jackelina, Josh, or (please God, no) Irina at the reunion.

    S04:E08: Pick Me

    So the mean girl (Micah) has mean girl friends. Quelle surprise! 😐 Looking forward to seeing their stank faces at the wedding. Very much NOT looking forward to seeing Irina's stank face at the reunion.

    I agree that Marshall calling Jackie a project wasn't a good move. That said, I think he can do better. Nice guys don't always finish last...some women are able to appreciate them at the right time. (Wish I could include myself in that list but I'm now pushing 60 and learned too late. Bad boys are good for fucking (with plenty of protection!), not for marrying.)

    I liked Jackie (despite the little bit of mean girl behavior she showed early on) but I too think there's something not quite right with her situation. Not sure if it's just family drama, her personal biochemistry, or some combination of both. Either way, this might not be the right time for her to just hop into marriage with, well, anybody.

    I also agree that, if they're smart, Zack and Bliss will say no at the altar and keep on dating. I actually like their quirky humor. Didn't he say he liked Bliss' brain? I like it too. I don't get the Zack hate at all.

    Kwame has rubbed me the wrong way from day 1. That said, I'm not sure if he will (or should) give his whole life up for Chelsea. Up until this episode I was on her side but...there's compromise, and then there's "my way or the highway." Sweetie, you're not the only blonde on the block.

    I think I may want Kwame and Micah to get together, if only because I dislike them both. Portland/Seattle vs. Portland/Arizona? Pretty sure there are plenty of blondes in Portland, Kwame.

    Brett and Tiffany are cute and will hopefully go the distance. That's all I got...

    S03.E12: Reunion

    I wish we could have the unedited footage of this show. I assume they've all watched the episodes? If so, why didn't any of the women call Matt out? Why, if the producers et al. feared Matt's wrath, did they not try to protect Colleen? Is anybody trying to protect Colleen? I don't follow any of these people on social media so I don't know if anybody's called him out there. At least they're not living under the same roof yet...is he in therapy? (ETA after rereading the comments: I'm guessing they hadn't watched the episodes prior to the reunion?)

    Reading these comments, I remembered that I used to know someone like Zanab: She liked to tell these long, boring, convoluted stories about people who'd did her wrong, and she made it sound like she was ALWAYS being victimized by one person or another. Lucky for her, hers was the only side of the story we usually heard.

    God only knows what Zanab told her friends about Cole prior to the wedding. They had to have had SOME kind of story that motivated them to clap the way they did. (Or maybe they were producer plants; who knows.) Again, I would have liked to have seen more video evidence of Cole's being anything other than an overgrown boy who needs to mature a little more. And actually I thought he was being quite mature at the reunion.

    I still don't see Raven and SK together for the long haul but I'm glad to hear they're still dating (long distance, I assume).

    Nancy sure did wear that stank face pretty well. Too bad the rest of her styling wasn't as good. In fact none of the girls on the couch looked good IMO.

    I kept expecting Alexa to be more of a bitch than she was. Brennan seems to know he's got himself a prize.

    Like Cole, Bartise needs to grow up. And get a better hairstylist. Other than that? I got nothing.

    S03.E10: Approaching The Altar

    SK being the one to say no was the biggest surprise of all these weddings, at least for me. But then again I was suspending disbelief -- like, Golden Gate Bridge-levels of suspension -- about their relationship in general.

    Curious to know how Raven's career and dating life are going now. Will watch the reunion tonight.

    S03.E11: The Wedding Day

I think the brother was actually pretty tame all things considered.     Brennon's vows were the best I've heard on this show so far, he's a good one. I am glad that he and Alexa were this season's success story and I hope that they last. 

    Zanab is a shifty one. Standing there spouting all these lovely things just waiting for the right moment to tear Cole down in front of everyone. She thought he needed to be told some things she should have waited to do it in private...it honestly looked really vindictive and gross. It wouldn't surprise me if she had been holding on to this from the moment that he told her she was a 9 and ranked Colleen higher than her. 

    Speaking of Colleen - I stand by the fact that I think Colleen would have said yes to ANYONE in the pods. She just wanted to get a proposal. I don't even know if its acting of if she is truly that desperate. I just feel sorry for her that it lead her into a relationship that might genuinely not be safe for her.  Both their families were adorable in their emotional and enthusiastic reactions. 

    I agree with all of this...

    I realize a literal beatdown probably wouldn't have been cool, but I would have been fine with a few extra minutes of verbal beatdown from Nancy's brother and mother.

    I have yet to perfect the art of watching TV while crocheting. Brennan's vows made me look up from my work.

    I was really trying hard to be on Zanab's side even though it was clear that she had a LOT of issues. That scene at the altar pretty much killed whatever sympathy I had left for her. It was completely unnecessary. (Not that I'm a Cole fan; he's one more overgrown boy who doesn't need to be in any serious relationship for a few years yet.)

    Since Colleen ignored my (and, I suspect, most sensible viewers') calls to RUN!, I hope Matt's in therapy so that he can be the husband she deserves. Barring that, I hope she finds enough self-esteem to leave if and when it becomes necessary.

    Well, folks, this is probably going to be it for me for 90DF, at least for now. I have no desire to watch HEA at. all. I'm watching 90DF UK but, again, only until my $4.99/trial ends, then I'm cancelling Discovery Plus. (I decided to try Paramount Plus and I'm really enjoying it way more.)

    I may still see you around these Primetimer streets. Until then, be well...and thanks for all the snark. 💓
