    I think the way to square this would be to realize that even oppressive regimes can make "exceptions" for a select few people who are minorities;

This is very much like the The Lebensborn Program  a breeding program run by the Greater Nazi Reich in 1935 with the objective of creating perfect Aryan offspring.  As time wore on, even if she wasn't pure Aryan, they would "allow" blonde blue-eyed Swedes, Swiss et al "qualify" to join the program. 'Guyz gonna do who guyz wanna do.'

Karen was an interesting character they could have done more with than just make a jealous, one note sycophant, but I get it, it was a show with lots of characters and no way to give nuance to everyone.

Presenting: The Real Housewives of Fargo:

Indira: Kick the Useless Bum to the curb!

Karen: Abused but entitled,"I get to slap the harlot!"

Lorraine: Laconic Lyoness, "I'm soo tired of your bullsh#t, here, waddle in mine.

    Dot:  The Tiger!!

Surely, they could have found a better actress than a Brit trying to sound "Minnesota nice."   I just didn't like her in the role.

Martin Freeman was the lead in Season 1 of Fargo., he's British also .It must be a thing to hire Brits for these roles. Aw jeez, ole chap.

  4. Poor Gator, I was so sure when he escaped, that he was about to step right back into the tunnel opening, lol. I guess Darwin forgave him, even if Roy didn't. Amazing transformation when he spoke to Nadine after, acting with half his face, and no eyes!

Even the idea of sin and penance, though borrowed from No Country for Old Men, kind of plays into the Christian Nationalism strain that Roy and Odin probably embody, though of course the leaders don't believe in penance for themselves, just everyone else.

This was the basis of the idea of a sin eater "do the crime let Oola eat your time in hell". Very interesting how Oola and Dot's convo about debt qnd forgiveness compares to the  MIL who is the Queen of debt, (which she never forgives, unless you "service" Roy for her). Time to buy Vaseline futures!

I probably would have felt better with an additional scene with her mother and grandmother encouraging her go have her adventure rather than she just leaving them without a word.

Oh dear! If they only knew! This daredevil climbs ladders in the sky and gives the business to hissing goblins. and that's before the Doctor.

  7. So nice to have The Doctor on Christmas!  In the States we hear about "Ghosts & Goblins" at Halloween, but they're not much of a thing (outside of the Spidey verse). Their shenanigans seem more like Gremlins, but Goblins seem  more like Olde England. Glad they weren't some Big Bad aliens out to destroy Earth; just hungry Mischievous Imps.

Ms Flood was at first bovverred that Ncuti plopped his TARDIS in the middle of the sidewalk and not on the corner. Every neighborhood has one person who watches everything on the block like a Sheriff. (What's with the TARDIS coming and going in plain sight?) Maybe she's a member of L.I.N.D.A.; they knew what the TARDIS was.

  8. FOTJ laid down three sign posts :

    • Ruth calls herself "The Doctor"
    • Her TARDIS was a Police Box
    • She doesn't recognize the sonic screwdriver

From the actual show's history back to the 1960's:

    • Hartnell chose the name Doctor
    • Hartnell's TARDIS became stuck as the Police Box
    • Every doctor since the Third(?) has used the Sonic

How can Ruth be before Hartnell without invoking the Bootstrap Paradox?

    (

    Spoiler

The Flux involved Ruth as the Doctor, but 13 was there as the Doctor also, and she's definitely post Hartnell

    )

These episodes were so, so stupid.

IKR? In 60 years we've never had a retired Doctor. why start now?"

Ans: In 600 years we've never had a retired Pope! Welcome to the 21st century!

These episodes were a palate cleanser,  as a prep for the next course

Did any else think that Kate was going to slap the Doctor as she was approaching him? That look on her face!

Some people were disturbed and disappointed that Sylvia slapped the doctor in TSB, (Never mind the firefight in the living room), because, that, not the wars and ethnic cleansing on the news, sets a bad example for the kiddies...talk about missing The Forest in the Night for all the trees.

Like how did River Song get her regenerations? If it's genetic, like we were told in the timeless child arc, there is really only one way. She must be the doctor's and Amy's daughter, not Rory's. As if that wasn't bad enough that would mean that the doctor married his own daughter, kissed her a bunch and presumably did even more with her.

IRL the Doctor did all of these things with "his" daughter. (~_~).

Was River the first "Non male presenting" person to "give up" her regeneration energy? Rose #1 "gave" a lot of Time Vortex energy to Capn Jack to make him immortal. There was a lot of wokery in Who before the Who-lligans got their knickers in a bunch.

  12. The "gravity of the situation joke" was as hilarious as the Timorous Beastie trying to get a "We are not amused" out of Queen Victoria. (10 & Rose)

Then we get the horror of the halls, as horrible as House in the  TARDIS. (11 & Amy/Rory) The use of the hallways made this more like "The Doctor's Wife" than "Midnight".

I  still think the TARDIS landed in Me's Trap Street. (12 & Clara)

Then ...the Flux (13 & half the Universe)

All the 10 -13 Doctors covered!

I was expecting to see a fly with a "my wings are too big" problem.

  13. Where was the Star Beast? There was The Meep and the Bug-eyes hunting it, but there was no giant Whale with London on it's back, or Sycorax ship, so who was the Star Beast?

Loved The Doctor being a Definite Article kind of person.

Did the Doctor land on Me's Trap Street?

  14. The second "WHAT" was Ten taking note of his 'new' clothes, so I absolutely expect an explanation. It seems RTD will be the one to carry  Chibnall's after effects of the Master's re-de-generations. (Does that count towards the Doctor's regen total or the Master's? ie was the Master the 14th "Doctor"?) Will numbers even be used in the "Timeless Child" age of Doctor Who? Many are now referred to by the actor's name instead of number; but "vanity boy" screwed that by hogging three numbers. Xmas10, Meta crisis 10, and 10 superscript 14?

it's like with all these reboots of TV shows in the last few years. None of them were any better than the originals. I'm a bit afraid that will happen now too.

Not Battlestar Galactica! (a few years ago).

Hasn't any showrunner been able, all along, to bring back so many Classic whovian villians and companions? Chibnall did, and has prompted many nu-Whovians to slog thru the old stuff, rubber masks, cheesy special effects, and all. His turn with the Master introduced many "old school" callbacks, and 2 proper female Doctors.

What's wrong with injecting new lore into a 60 year show? Star Trek, Star Wars, and the Marvel Universe have done a lot more twists to their lore in 1/4 to 1/2 the time. After all, "All children leave home sooner or later, the joy is to watch them fly."

  16. When Yaz asked Ace about being under a volcano and Ace pulled out her (not cricket) bat, could easily have been Dan whipping out his wok, "I'm ready!" It seems many roles and lines were switched around due to actor's availability:

    • Obviously, Wilf would have been at the Only-Companions chat. (well, we'll get Donna, anyway)

True. But we never heard Martha express the kind of ambition we heard from Yaz in that first season,

Martha was already a Doctor, I think ambition describes very well the drive of many MDs and Med students.

Can You Hear Me was the place to develop all of Yaz' issues, but I prefer immortals and fantastical planets than achy-breaky teenage angst in space, YMMV.

How did Graham get involved in the volcano plot? He seemed to know what was going on, but when the Doctor saw him, she was shocked to see him there, so she didn't send him...

How did Ryan and Graham get involved in the Dalek plot with the Spider guy? How did Sara Jane get to the School Reunion? How did Mickey get to the same school? How did Vinder get involved in the volcano plot? How did Ace and Tegan get involved in the missing paintings plot? Since Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane we've accepted the involvement of nosy "companions" in superhero stories, but now we must draw the line and castigate the infidel Chibnall.

Well now you have a support group, like LINDA, to dispatch companions anywhere. (If Graham stops putting his whole bio on the Psychic Paper, lol)

that should exist within Yaz as a character, given that she was introduced to us as an ambitious young police officer, who was then so intensely drawn to the Doctor and life in the TARDIS that she effectively abandoned all those career ambitions, and the tension between those two desires might have been explored over the course of the seasons, with the episode plots used to draw out all those conflicted emotions and the moments of decision, etc, and how her growing crush on the Doctor fed into it, and all that inner conflict - and the Doctor's eventual, very gentle, rejection of any possibility of a romantic relationship - might then have fed into her ultimate decision to leave the TARDIS and pick up the threads of her life on Earth.

Then we'd accuse Chibnall of stealing Martha Jones' entire arc!

I think the Thasmin plot line is a case of the fandom seeing/wanting something and the showrunner going with it, (like Scully and Muldaur, or Ross and Rachel from yesteryear).

  20. Wow, back on a Space Train with Doctor Who!

So, with Graham, Ryan, Ace, and Tegan still pursuing the Doctor-ish abnormalities, the Companion's Support Group looks dangerous; they can show up anytime, anywhere like Vinder! Shed a tear for Wilf and Sara Jane, and that other Professor, Professor Eustacius Jericho.

They pointed out that Kim was only person who ever loved Jimmy, and that loved saved him at the end.

Will anyone else ever visit Jimmy? He’ll have to make a life on the inside. He may refer her clinic to an inmate or two, and help many with their appeals. But Kim needs to find another “time of my life” elsewhere.
    btw

Was blonde Kim Wexler part of an alter-ego for an up and coming attorney, like Saul?
