  1. Given what we saw of the flashback of JP’s car crash with Bibi, I honestly don’t see how she and the rest of the sisters kept socializing with him for years(?) after that! He was purposely messing with her, using the death of her parents to scare her, and purposely driving recklessly, and with terrible “life-ruining” results. Maybe suppose he could have convinced Grace that it was all Bibi’s fault and she was remembering it wrong, but I’d think the rest of the sisters would support her side and they’d all refuse to socialize with him anymore. They could have sat grace down for an intervention and she might have left him. Instead they all just keep acting like they’re fine with him while secretly plotting to kill him? They act like they had no other options than to kill him but they definitely did.

  2. Small question, but the insurance guys said JP had 4 claims in the past year and I can only think of two - the cabin and the fended bender with Ursula. Was Bibi’s eye supposed to be within the last year? I thought it was much further back, for her to be ok socializing with him. But even if theyre counting that one, I still can’t think of a fourth.

Yes it did. Admittedly the time-line in the show was played with (the real Mary committed her kidnapping several years later and in a different city, Jenny only read about it in the paper having left nursing) but Mary was mentally disturbed by losing her child. And did  take an infant from its pram.

Ok so yeah that’s sad but much less pat of a story than in the show.

  4. So I know the early seasons were mostly pulled from the actual memoirs, but what about the episode where the girl whose baby was taken away two episodes previously came back and stole a newborn from a stroller? Did that really happen? It honestly just seemed a little too pat how the episodes connected up, to be real life.

  5. Just finished the thread. I see lots of complaints about our partner but no one mentioned that she was actually in Los Angeles and didn’t tell the guy that she was dating who lives in Los Angeles that she was there? That was bizarre. And then she expects him to fly to Houston to meet her? He seemed very put off by that, rightfully.

Arshneel could someone explain why this cardiologist is so bewildered and thrown off because his date is from India? I was binge watching very late but couldn’t make sense of it.  She seemed delightful.

I thought it was so strange that he spent all this time talking about how he was worried that people might judge him for his turban and then he started judging her for being from India and having an accent.

And Nadia, she dropped the nice guy to pursue pure physical attraction. I think he told her whatever she wanted to hear so she would sleep with him and then met someone else while she was away on business for a few weeks.

But why did he fly all the way to California just to break up with her? Even Nadia broke up with Shaker (Who I felt really bad for) over FaceTime because they were thousands of miles away. Did the show pay him to fly out to California and break up with her in person on camera? I wonder if he would’ve been so careful and kind in a break up if he didn’t know it was gonna be televised.

I'm not Indian. As someone who isn't from that culture, it bothers me to see women crying as they are separated from their families on their wedding days, and this is the second time I've seen clearly non-happy tears.  The same thing happened in A Suitable Girl.  Is there some custom or tradition that doesn't allow women to see their own families once they marry?  If so, then I can see why women might not be enthused at the idea of marriage.

I am no expert, but in Bend it like Beckham (fiction, set in England) they show the wedding videographer telling the bride that she has to stop looking so happy and has to muster up some tears because it’s part of the Indian wedding tradition.

Max's feelings about Billy actually make a little more sense after reading Runaway Max today. Sadie is killing it this season

I like books but I don’t want to have to find a book to understand a show. Can you summarize?

  9. Jane Lynch looks absolutely nothing like Steve Martin, not even from the back. Definitely took me out of the episode when people were supposedly confusing them. Though I guess that fits with other Hollywood traditions like everyone acting like a beautiful woman is ugly if she wears glasses, or no one recognizing Clark Kent as Superman.

Do you think they put out a casting call for Steve Martin’s annoying stunt double and Jane Lynch auditioned? Or did they write the part for her?

They should really start to have the buildings tenants start to interact with each other more, do people in the building never talk to each other?

I lived in a large building like this in chicago for 6 years and I didn’t know any of my neighbors, not even the ones right next door. In fact I find it unbelievable how much they DO talk to each other and run into the same people over and over, in a building that size. I also find it unbelievable that they had that weird memorial at all (what kind of insurance reasons could there possibly be). If someone committed suicide in the large building I lived in I doubt I’d have even been informed in any way. (But I was a tenant, not an owner. Maybe if the deceased and all the people at the memorial were owners or on the HOA board or something?)

Are they pretending the building is smaller than it looks?

And it’s inconsistent. 10 year old Tim said he knew everyone in the building (really, in a building that size?) but now no one seems to remember him.

  11. Ok granted I’ve been watching this half in the background by doing chores, so I may have missed something, but what about his manner of death made everyone start assuming suicide? Knocking your own teeth out? Wtf?

don't expect the show to have a military adviser, but the depiction of the Marines is ridiculous. The terms Marine and soldier are not interchangeable. This crew is sloppy AF. (Will's hair is long enough to fall into his eyes.) And recruiters don't spend their time just hanging out in high schools gawking at teen girls.

I’ve been wondering, is this really a thing? For marines, or any type of soldiers, to hang around at a high school all the time for what seems to be months, partying with high school kids, giving them the hard sell on joining up? It’s one thing to be at the occasional career fair, but they seem to be spending a lot of time pressuring that one kid. Do they really do that? Are they that desperate for recruits? Is that really a thing on any level?

My guess is that they didn't get those people to sign waivers to appear in this doc?

I thought of that but do we really think they got all the people we did see to sign waivers? There are a LOT of them in crowd scenes etc with only a few faces blurred out. I was wondering if those blurred out were underage at the time or something like that.

  14. Why would the queen ask a teenager who isn’t even out in society, basically a sheltered child with no life experience or access to the adult world, to investigate this secret author? The only way it makes sense is if the queen herself is Lady Whistledown and is just messing with Eloise for fun, but that doesn’t seem to be where they’re going with it. Also why is everyone assuming lady whistledown must witnesse everything herself, rather than having a network of servants etc who spread gossip to her?

Why were all three Featherington girls presented together?  Wouldn't they have been presented as each turned 17?

    I was wondering this too.

And Daphne’s well-placed punch on the snout of her way too entitled attacker in no way diminishes Simon’s appeal, but rather serves to demonstrate his empathy for those who want to assert themselves.

I like the concept that she could save herself, but how would she know how to throw a real punch like that? I expected some line about how one of her brothers had taught her or something, but with no explanation it seemed odd.

Actually, I've seen articles stating that this isn't color blind casting, that race absolutely plays a part, so that it's rather color conscious. They're going off on the presumption that Queen Charlotte had obvious African ancestry and this had shaped the society's perception of race. It's an interesting concept. While on the topic, they also mention Asian characters. I don't think I've spotted any yet in episode 1.

Interesting concept, I"ll have to read more about this. Was this an aspect of the original books, or something Shona Rhimes came up with?

I do like this concept better than fully colorblind casting, where it can get confusing when characters who are supposed to be related don't look like they could be related.

I wondered how she ever was going to undo Max's legitimate sin when it came to Rosa, and being willing to give up his life to resurrect her does go a long way.

Good point, except Liz had forgiven him way before that, which I felt was un-earned - should have saved her forgiveness for after his big sacrifice. Also not clear if he knew resurrecting her would kill him.
