Calling on @ShellyB if she still gets the bat signal from this place. I believe she said that the idea of an extended training camp was introduced during her tenure on the team in the 90s. I'd be curious to know how they explained this new way of doing things. Was it because it was truly so difficult to narrow down the talent, or were there other reasons?
I'd also be curious to know if it was always 5 nights a week, all summer long, or if it started out shorter or fewer nights a week and grew from there.
Received…technically, my Rookie season, Training Camp lasted until the first game. We were told that cuts would be made during TC, however, they could be happen at anytime throughout the season, and often there were seasonal casualties. We took our squad photo in late June, along with our headshots, so for the most part, our squad was pretty much decided by July. During my second year, the new girls were referred to as Training Camp Candidates, and were also told cuts would last through the summer. We took our squad photo that year in mid July, along with headshots. Pretty sure during most of my 5 yr tenure, photos were in July. Rehearsals have always been 4-5 nights a week, sometimes on the weekends if you were on Show Group….we would have 8 hour rehearsals, for 1-2 weekends to learn all show choreography…kind of like a mini camp. With all of this being said, auditions were in April, usually the first or second weekend for Prelims and Semis, then the last weekend for Finals. The two weeks in between Semis and Finals were for our individual interviews.

Okay, I am going to need some help on a predicament I have stumbled upon. Originally in my first draft of my DCC name database I had found 11 girls with the name Kim. When I started doing my final draft, I had found an additional girl that went by the name Kim on the DCC squad photo and trading cards, but Pompedia had her as Kimberly. So technically the tally should be at 12 for the name Kim but, I have only found 10 + the Kim that was under Kimberly. Am I missing someone, or did I just add in an extra number incorrectly? Here are the names I have so far.
1. Kim Patterson (1970)
2. Kim Kilway (1978, 1979, 1980)
3. Kim McKenney (1978, 1979)
4. Kim Rockel (1981, 1982)
5. Kim Bateman (1982, 1983, 1984)
6. Kim Chapman Oden (1982, 1983)
7. Kim Stevens (1984, 1985, 1986)
8. Kim Wiman (1985)
9. Kim Fillmon (1990)
10. Kim Sivils (1999)
11. Kim Nicole Tong (2012, 2013)Also I jus realized that Pompedia is not as reliable as I thought it would be when it comes to their DCC database. I already had a mistake with the name Kelly as one of the girls who's real name is Kelley was labeled as Kelly on the site. Plus the technical difficulties and the search bar not working and you're left with a confused and frustrated person lol.

The entire staff has #strengths that they focus on, but overall work cohesively to get 💩 done. There has not been an assistant director or assistant choreographer for years…1990 and 1991 respectively. Also, technology is a great tool, you’d be amazed what gets accomplished remotely. Two staff members have lived outside of DFW, one for over 20 years.

There’s a new block feature on IG that allows a user to mass block one person’s accounts. That includes any future accounts that are created. I think it works by blocking the IP address of the user being blocked.
@ShellyB Are the ladies aware of this new block feature on IG?
Yes, the problem is that one particular person creates multiple accounts from different IP addresses. He’s started to comment on other pages, including mine 🙄🤬

Whoever they are, they know they aren’t supposed to be spilling the tea because there are contractual agreements with CMT, DCFC, DCC to keep the #integrity of the season in tact, before the premiere. Therefore, they create a persona. I have no idea who the #insiders are…definitely close enough to the process to spill just enough to keep people talking. #spillingunsweetteanotsweettea

I’m curious about this too- Heather H. accidentally started with the wrong leg during kickline when auditioning for her second year (when she got cut) and I always thought it was a bizarre mistake to make. If they do kickline on both sides during auditions still, that makes it seem a little less out of left field.
Yes, right split, then left.

That’s the assumption, but as you know, things can change at the last minute.

Actually, I think we could all use a palate cleanser. Plus, it's a long holiday weekend. Yay 'Murica! I'll leave you with this...
(This is throwback audition stuff. Spoilered for those who aren't into that.)
Since we don't have any footage from this year's audition, I give you 1996 DCC finals. This is only 8 minutes, not the whole thing, but it's uncut, so you can see what it's really like. They're sweaty, they're tired, their hair is a mess, they screw up, etc. We could only dream of this kind of coverage today.
Observations:
In the blonde group,
- Carrie Reeves (42) and Shannon Swanson (44) were both 2 year veterans. The other two were rookie candidates, I believe. Shannon was the only one in the group who made the team. She was a "gap year" girl, on the team 94, 95, 96, then 2001 and 2002. (Returning after a couple years wasn't that uncommon back then.)
- It's weird how the choreo doesn't fit the music at all. Even the ones who are doing it right look like they're dancing in slow-mo.
- Do not miss our friend @ShellyB in the front row all the way to the left, looking completely over it. 🤣 There's another woman in the audience eating snacks, not caring one bit that she's on camera.
- I knew they had to do kickline twice but I didn't realize it was right splits one time and left splits the other time. Do they still do this?
- You can really see how doing the dance twice and the kickline twice really kicked these women in the tail. Some of those kicks got lower...and lower...By the end of it, they all seem so done.
In the brunette group,
- Johnene Rhodes (46) Is that crushed velvet? got cut but later made the team in 1997. It must've been the eyebrow that did it. The one eyebrow has a mind of its own.
- Melissa Valdez (47) was a 2 year vet and made the team.
- Belinda Galvan (?) (48) didn't make the team
- Linda Badami (49) was a 1 year vet and made the team again. The oldest DCC ever made some of the others in her group look like pikers.
- Denise something (50) didn't make the team
This is video is the women dancing around while they wait for the judges to deliberate. Makes you wonder where young Phil was at this point in time. Don't blink or you'll miss ShellyB doing waaaay too much. 😆
This video is the first few numbers called in the team announcement. No training camp this year. (I think Shelly said training camp concept was introduced some time during her tenure on the team, but I don't recall the year.) Here's comes Shelly with the cartwheel. Would love to see someone try that these days.
Random factoid: the first one announced, Terra Watson, is the owner of Dallaswear, the company that makes those super-sparkly audition outfits.
This video shows the women taking a group photo just after the squad announcement. It's not that interesting, but here it is anyway. I'd love to know why it was necessary to move Cindi Burck (redhead in red in the front row) from one side other, making everyone else scootch over like that. Was this a "bouquet" moment? Too many blondes in a row?
Bonnie-Jill Laflin is also in this pic, for those who know of her. She's in the back row, 4th from the left.
Lol…go big or go home! 🤣🤣🤣

Ok HOLD. UP. Are you telling me y'all refer to those as the "dancing girl" pics? I am so tickled by this, and I don't know why. Like, I'm going to have work this in whenever someone takes my picture. "Hold on, lemme do my dancing girl pose. Boom."
On another note, I wasn't actually looking at your profile on LinkedIn. I was looking at someone else....George...um...Glass! Yes, that was his name. He goes to another school.
No but really, I was looking at someone who must be connected to you in some way and the graphic popped up as an association with you. And I'm not trying to get somebody in trouble, so that's all I'm going to say about that. You ain't heard it from me. 🤐
And finally, back to Gina. Left is the pic on the website. Right is the one she posted on IG when everyone else's
cameosdancing girls 😆 were revealed last year. I'm guessing it's the one she liked best from last year's shoot. And now I am really and truly letting go of it.As always, much appreciation for the inside scoop!
No one will get in trouble 🤣…it was posted on LinkedIn, I was in aware since I hardly get on. I knew that it was sent internally throughout DCFC and posted on the monitors at the Star and Stadium offices.
Yes, Dancing Girls, because when they are shooting music is playing and they are dancing for poses instead of being placed. Make sense?

Hi @ShellyB I'm sorry but I can't reveal my sources. Mwahahahahahaha.....
Just kidding. It's on LinkedIn.
Regarding Gina, I asked because the uniform photo currently on the website is the same photo that was posted for the 2019 squad. All of the other veterans had new photos for 2020, so I wondered if Gina was either unable to attend the shoot or her photos didn't turn out last year.
Nope, she was there…but I know the Vets were asked if they wanted to reshoot or use a previous cameo/dancing girl. She may have opted for that photo instead of using a new one shot last summer - not that they ever have a say, but last TC, everything was so different - they did their own HMU, one person in set at a time, a long process…longer than normal. As far as the pics on the site, they were selected from the shoot, had final edits and put into a 2020 folder for webmaster to add. Could totally be human error - I’ll have to look into it.
Oh, LinkedIn…rarely look at that, so interesting that those are posted there. No wonder I had so many random lookyloos! 🤣🤣

I debated whether to put this here or the DCC org thread, but this one gets more views. It seems we can thank Shelly for leading the resurrection of DallasCowboysCheerleaders.com. Thanks @ShellyB! I hope you are enjoying life in Houston. ☺️
Also, now that I know you're involved with the website, I have to ask something I've been wondering. What happened with Gina's 2020 cameo? Was she unable to participate in last year's photoshoot?
First of all…thank you. I was instrumental in being vocal enough to push for something bigger, bolder and brighter. There is still room to grow with the site, and the platform offers so many ways to continually build upon. Secondly, where did you get this? This was an internal email and highlight reel at The Star, maybe Stadium. Lastly, not sure what you are referring to about Gina. All the girls were at the photo shoot last year.

16 hours ago, sleepyjean said:Speaking of...I don't know if anyone here has ever heard of Russell Greer. He is a very very disturbed person, an incel with a twist in that he is hyper-focused on women who are completely unattainable, including female celebrities, models, and lately, NFL cheerleaders. He's filed 3 lawsuits against Taylor Swift, one against Ariana Grande, one against a brothel in Nevada, and one against the state of Utah to try to force them to legalize brothels (sex workers are his other obsession). He's...well, don't click the link or google him unless you've got time to go down a rabbithole you will find it very difficult to believe is true.
A friend who knows about Russell recently pointed him out to me, mentioning his interest in cheerleaders, and pointed out that Russell has turned his attentions to several past and present DCC and is now following them on Instagram (@just_some_dude_named_russell29). A quick check of his follows confirmed he's following Tess, Sydney, Kashara, Mandy, Mckenzie, Darian, and Gina, and who knows who else. My friend told me Russell's m.o. is to leave a few flattering comments on their IG, tell them he loves them, then start DM-ing them, try to venmo them small amounts of money, then if they don't respond, starts posting nasty messages about how the woman is stuck up and hates disabled people (his face is paralyzed), how her friends are bad news, how any guys in their photos are trash and Russell is better than all of them, etc. It seems that ANY woman who EVER responds to Russell AT ALL is subject to years of this treatment. I post this here because the dude is scary, but also on the off chance that @ShellyB or anyone connected to the DCC reads here and can point him out and warn everyone to ignore him. Apparently blocking him sets him off.
Last year he was convicted of electronic harassment because one lady was nice to him, and he couldn't take no for an answer. She lived in the same city with him and when she refused to meet him in person and revealed that she had a boyfriend, he called and texted her relentlessly, using spoofed numbers and fake email and social media accounts. He found out where she lived and threatened to go to her house and harm himself in front of her. Even though he was convicted, he explains it all away as a little misunderstanding that would've been cleared up if his victim had just agreed to hear him out. It was just a bad situation.
I'd hate to see this happen to any of the DCC, or to any woman really. I'm sure the women are trained on how to deal with creeps, but this guy is EXTRA worrisome.
I didn't spend much time looking, but I see he's started with Sydney. Thankfully, she knew better than to respond.
It's not so much what he says publicly, but his dogged persistence. Remember Bri Lutrell? She tried out for DCC a few times.
I'm sorry...I know this is a lot. but learning more about this dude has scared the hell out of me. He's never actually hurt anyone I don't think, but the whole thing is creepy.
We are aware of him...thanks!

We went on a USO Tour in November of 2019, with hopes to do more, but Covid hit. Once life has returned to a somewhat normal pace, I’m sure discussions will be reignited.

Lots of reasons, from both sides of DCC and USO...timing, budget, formatting, etc. I took 4 girls to Korea last fall and there were talks of a Spring tour, but then COVID went and canceled life.

Still discussing. Certain aspects of 2020 auditions and TC were liked. Of course a lot depends on what an NFL season will look like. If it’s like this past season, I’m sure the process will adjust accordingly.

I could have sworn that Shelly told us before about Victoria not being classically trained? or at least something to that effect and she was acknowledging that there were some little issues or at least differences with technique - which all has to do with how they were taught. So being in the same studio forever likely actually contributes to the differences in technique. It doesn't absolve her from still having a few issues. For the record, I think her pom style is awesome and it really should be her signature style.
I said her studio was a competition focused studio...some ballet throughout the week, but not the main focus.

Retirements are announced around the time of auditions aren’t they? @ShellyB is that correct?
also are the girls still not permitted to send out signed photos? How does someone go about getting one? Won’t lie I wouldn’t mind one before one of my faves retires 😅
Depends on if there is another season. Generally, around auditions is when the public will begin to know of possible retirements. K & J will not ask for formal decisions until later in the spring.
Right now, they’ve been told that signed photos are not to be mailed out...I’m aware of some that have sent out pics during quarantine.

A few of the girls get taped before games, much like players. Mostly to help prevent any ankle rolls for those with weak ankles, shin splints, etc.

👆🏼 These two scenarios are not related. 89-90 was the walkout year - 24 vets, 22 rookies...Kelli had already retired. She was granted her 5th season in 88.

The Process: Auditions, Training Camp and Squad
in Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making The Team
That video 🫠 yikes!! There were nearly as many technically trained dancers back then…and for sure the style was different. SG consisted more of girls with entertainment stock and showmanship, some with more than training, definitely some with a look. We still laugh about Dinosaur…not one of my favs. That particular tour, the show was an abbreviated version of the normal SG show, so some of the more technical dances were not done.
