I think that was indeed his mother, she could have seen her husband die while with their son and assumed he had died as well. I believe when he said "she died in my arms" it was referring to this scene where he literally killed his mother. But why he would kill his mother, I have no clue and I just chocked it up to the fact he is full on psycho.
