I was surprised two people missed FJ. The ball looked very similar to the one in the commercial for the Dyson ball vac.

That was my take as well. It almost looked like the vacuum ball had been Photoshopped in!

For today's FJ I knew Goldfinger was wrong but guessed it anyway. I had never heard the story about the melon and chocolate syrup in Psycho so I spent a good half hour going down an internet rabbit hole reading about it. Cool story #myjeopardyeducation

I  said Incan instead of Mayan. I fear I'll never learn. :(

Same here. I was like UGH will I ever get those two straight???

I liked the Ottoman-opeia category a lot. They weren't very hard to figure out but were interesting facts nonetheless.

For yesterday's TS I got Savoir Faire, Richard Burton, Richelieu, and Columbia, and today just Bede and Jane. Bummer no one was a Jane's Addiction fan; they're one of my favorite bands.

I was sure Emily would be a one and done. Well hush my mouth.

  2. Poor Hanna; she was always so pleasant, even when she was tanking. As I said with Hershel(sp?), I appreciate players who are not only knowledge but seem to genuinely enjoy being there.

FJ was an instaget however I did question whether there was something called a Maryland Oriole -- talk about OVERreading the clue...

I'm gonna need Dhruv!!! to chill and face the board otherwise my nerves won't be able to take him for very long.

Hairik needed so many BMS tonight -- almost every name he gave, in fact.

Totally. Dylan and Miller got eyerolls from me.

The only TS I got were I Got You Babe and Justinian. I guessed Pretoria for FJ because I had no clue about the rose hint and Oscar Pastorius' case was held there. I didn't remember Blomefontein(sp?) until they revealed the answer. Speaking of repeated clues I'm happy to see my favorite novel A Confederacy of Dunces make another appearance on the show. The writers must be fans of it too.

I liked Alex's little joke about Hannah also being named Erik.

Alex's jokes don't ever work for me but I have to give him credit for that one. He's usually so rehearsed but that felt spontaneous.

  4. Oh. More of Young Sheldon. Great.

Erik is growing on me too.  I do the NY Times puzzle and will have to start checking to see when he's created one.

I'm shocked and amazed Alex didn't pronounce Lodz the proper way then take the opportunity to lecture the contestants about it.

Genes was the only TS I got; I had no idea on FJ. It's been eons since I read Beowulf and don't remember a single thing about it...

Is Brown v. Board really acceptable? No need to say "...of Education"? Eric likes to give half answers, like saying just Oliver instead of Oliver Twist.

Brown v. Board definitely should have gotten a BMS. I let out a sneak though since I mentioned Thurgood Marshall and that case in a comment yesterday. And I think that’s the first time I’ve heard Rosa Parks referred to as just “Parks”. It’s  almost like RosaParks is one name for me LOL

Poor Michael was all nicely dressed and polite but he got steamrolled.

For TS I got checker cab (with a photo), Drugstore Cowboy (great movie), Space Cowboy and John Travolta. My brain couldn’t process FJ but as soon as Alex started giving hints, facepalm.

I didn't think that category was any easier or more difficult than other categories. Heck, if I can answer ANY Opera clue, much less run the category like I did the other day, the clues were simple, but I wouldn't call it offensive to opera lovers just because I could answer them. And I'm offended than anyone would find Friday's African-American category offensive. But I guess some posters get bent about Woman Author categories and find that offensive. So there's that. I only knew the Harriet Tubman answer because of an episode of Timeless. As I keep repeating, everything is EIYKI. And if you know it, it's Toddler Level. If you don't ... I'm not sure what that's called.

Jeopardy! is a game show; I enjoy it as such and as a result I don't get bent about much that is presented there. The point I was making about the African-American history category is that Jeopardy! routinely takes this subject which now spans 400 years and narrowly defines it as slavery and the civil rights movement of the 60s, and even more specifically as Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman/the Underground Railroad, Thurgood Marshall/Brown v. Board of Ed, and Booker T. Washington. Sometimes there's a Dred Scott or Sojourner Truth thrown in when the writers are feeling adventurous. I was actually thrilled they included Jacob Lawrence; it would be nice to see more fine artists represented in that category.

I admit, given the popularity of rock music, that I too would be surprised someone thought a Guns N Roses song was AC/DC. Mileage varies but I don't see music fandom and the historical representation of an ethnic group as comparable.

The Harriet Tubman clue was too simple for a DD in DJ.  Same with the great migration.  And, holy hell, separate but not equal.  It’s offensive to fill an African American history category, in DJ no less, with Teen Tournament-level clues.

THIS. I guess I should take some solace in the fact they didn't go for the usual MLK - Malcolm X -Booker T Washington triple play but I don't.

I got the shoulder pad and Guns N Roses TS. I'm embarrassed I didn't get the sumo FJ. I just couldn't get past karate.

I loved Herschel. Even though he pretty much trailed throughout, he was genuinely happy to be competing and was audibly tickled by some of the clues. Not sure how I feel about Erik yet. He certainly has good knowledge but I'm not a big fan of the kind of rapid fire, just-me-and-Alex kind of playing.

And when and where is the vertical tic-tac-toe game called "Drop 4" instead of "Connect 4"?

That was some b.s. IMO. Thank goodness he didn't win as a result.

Bad game for me - no TS and no clue on FJ. I was rooting for Jessica to win.

  9. Ugh, I hate when they leave just one clue in a category I was running!

Other TS I got were Berlusconi, Australia (Midnight Oil!), and Java. I couldn't remember Glenda Jackson's last name to save my life so unfortunately can't claim that one.

    FJ was an instaget

I was bummed that I didn't get FJ.  I love Pluto (apparently not enough to know any facts about it) and it is still a planet. <shakes fist>

I'm with you in Pluto solidarity! Unfortunately, although I was thinking Pluto I said Jupiter. I blame the Pluto deniers for the distraction.

The only TS I got was Philip Seymour Hoffman. He was such a great talent, I feel badly none of them got that.

  11. FJ could have been a $200 clue as far as I'm concerned. Meanwhile I had no clue on any of the Star Wars clues because I stopped watching that series after Return of the Jedi. Mike Brady was my only TS.

Alan's pretty strong so I think he'll be with us for a while.

  12. Poor Alex. I'm really glad Middle Guy didn't win.

I got the curtain call missed DD but no TS. FJ was an instaget.

I didn't know you could guess wrong but correct yourself and still get credit. Doesn't Alex usually say Nope then move on to someone else?

  13. I was engrossed in a Words With Friends battle for my life and the part of my brain that was still trying to watch Jeopardy! just couldn't keep up. For instance I had a picture in my mind of macrame but couldn't for the life of me think of the word in time.

But yay Alex! It seemed to me he was having a really good time playing today. I think he enjoyed the competition from Middle Guy.

I could have stared at that bridge for the rest of my life and not gotten the answer.

I saw Sting in concert about 13 years ago. He opened with "Message in a Bottle." Hearing it live, it still sounded like "I'll send an S.O.S. to a squirrel."

And now I will never hear that lyric the same way again - thanks a lot Dr. Scottie! LOL

It's a shame how many clues were left on the DJ round board. I blame Greg and Jen for their slow picks and answers. For TS I got Leroy Neiman Marcus and Mary Leakey. I think Leakey alone would have called for a BMS since Louis and Richard (husband and son) were also paleoanthropologists. FJ was an instaguess - I wasn't sure if he was still alive in '53.

The trend continues with a photo of Qadaffi.

THEN I remembered the Monkees' "Head."

I'm so psyched to see someone mention one of my favorite movies!

Poor Sara; I thought she'd be around for a while but Adam was a beast. I'm glad it wasn't a total runaway though because yawn. While I'm not a fan of starting in the middle of categories, Adam is relatively pleasant and not clowning for attention. I'd take him over Doug any day of the week.

FJ was an instaguess because it's the only European WW2 battle I know.

I guess I'm just going to have to get used to Jeopardy! posting photos of super famous people like Ella Fitzgerald. Sigh.

I hadn't caught the show all week, but as soon as he sung "The Brady Bunch" to open the game, I understood all the Doug hatred here!

Was it just me, or did he not quite get the melody right?

That's right which made it that much more wrong. And thanks to Sara we'll never have to hear him sing anything again.

I honestly thought Daley and Wilder could have used a BMS as well.

Agreed. It's also pretty sad to provide photos of Humphrey and Wallace in a category specifically about the 1968 election.

I got the Homeland and Raymond Chandler TS. Had no clue on FJ; I can't believe I've never heard of olive oil referred to as that!

    Yaaaaaaaaaaay Sara!

Did anyone else think maybe the other two let Maggie have the Neverland answer? So she could play fj? It was beyond a runaway for Doug by then

Totally. It was nice of them I guess.

I can't stand runaways so this wasn't a great game to me. I did get FJ though and the kendo and bundle TS.

I was glad when Doug tried to sing the Brady theme and no one laughed.

  18. Dammit Cody, you almost had it!

The thing about viral is you don't get to decide that you will go viral; the public determines that, and they typically actively reject those who declare they will go viral and god I cannot stand Doug.

I got no TS and completely blanked on FJ. At least dictionary.com let me know an additional definition of "hyphenate". #myjeopardyeducation

Boo, hiss that end guy won, although I will agree that the twin clue wasn't clear.  However, he should not have gotten credit for "infected" instead of "contaminated" -- those two things are not the same.  I was rooting for middle guy.

I agree. I paused and read that twin clue several times and as a statement (as it was written), "I'm a twin, but [fraternal] or [identical], also known as this type" makes no sense. It would have made better sense to me as a question, with better inflection by the actor: "I'm a twin, but [fraternal] or [identical], also known as this type?"

Agree on contaminated, and I was rooting for middle guy too. Doug bugged (ha) but at least Andrew can go back to guessing randomly at home now.

My initial instinct for FJ was Anna Anna Karenina, but then I second guessed and would have written Madam Bovary.

I did the same and guessed Madame Bovary, although I don't agree either is the greatest work of fiction by any stretch.

For TS I got Cheney's Got a Gun and Miles Davis, a stunner because I thought "Birth of the Cool" was pretty mainstream by now. The GH category was a cute idea but damn some of them read slow. I thought Sonny was drunk.

    Kit Carson Cody??? SCREAMING.

Ah, cr*p, ABC's World News Tonight with David Muir just showed the Jeopardy proposal. WTH. I guess jackasses, show offs and Look At Me people rule in this country. Anyone who is polite and courteous are Losers these days.

I saw it on CNN's homepage too this morning. My eyes rolled back so far I couldn't get them straight until a few minutes ago.

Alex totally gave away today's FJ answer (question) with his impersonation. I've never seen the film, but the answer was pretty damn obvious based on his delivery.

That was ridiculous. That little performance of his downgraded the question to a $200 clue.

I got the Stockholm DD and John Irving TS.

Andrew was all over the place. I suspect he'll be a one and done.

  21. Big eyeroll from me for the public proposal. I don't watch the interviews but rewound when I heard Alex say "Good day for Michael" in his signoff.

FJ was an instaget and I got the Iraq and Sweden TS. I would have been happy with Evelyn or Katie(?) winning; they both played well.
