I imagine the ruins may not be that much but the renovation would cost an absolute fortune. Electric, HVAC, plumbing, septic, structural repairs, inspections, etc. Even if Brianna sold the Boston house, it probably wouldn't be enough.

Maybe they plan to just clean it up to its original state without modernizing it.  They could build themselves a new house to live in on the same property for much less money.  They could then open up the main house for tourism to make some money to pay for the repairs.  It would be a great opportunity to educate people about the Fraser family history and also the history of the Highlands.  That's what I would do, anyway.

Allen's confession and death were so hilariously abrupt. It felt like "well that takes care of that, lets be done with this plot" and the show moves on as quickly as possible.

I really feel like last season would have been so much more cohesive if the first two episodes of this season had been included.  It would have felt more like a proper ending to those storylines within the same season, and the house explosion would have been a perfect cliffhanger to carry into this season.  I know they had complications that prevented it, but in my canon, these first two episodes will be included in season 6.

Would they need to prove that they are married in 1974? You buy train tickets in Wilmington, "oh, going on vacation?" "Yes, I'm taking my family to visit a friend of the family in Boston." That's basically it.

I wasn't thinking of travel, specifically.  I was thinking of how they would prove Amanda was a US citizen to get her a birth certificate, SSN, etc. - things she would need to have medical treatment.  Plus it won't help their situation if Roger gets deported.  I'm sure I am thinking about this WAY more than the writers will.  Lol

Yes it was like that in the USA. It wasn’t until I was born in the mid 80s people started applying for Social Security numbers at the birth of their child.

I was born in the US in 1976 and I had a SSN at birth.  Maybe each state was different...

I do agree that things were much more relaxed back then as far as proving your identity, so it isn't impossible to think that Roger and Bree could work the system a bit in order to get her treated.  I would think they would have a harder time with Roger being in the US and not being a citizen, since Roger and Bree can't prove they are actually married.

We see Alex coughing while Captain Shipley pouring her a drink. Will she catch what Lucca had??!

Good catch.  I hope not but you know a character never coughs or faints for no reason on a series.

I too like the Lucy/Tim pairing.  They seem to have swept under the rug the Lucy/Nolan relationship, as if it never happened.

I think the writers are just waiting for an appropriate time to bring it up again- probably right at the point when Lucy and Tim are hitting a nice groove in their relationship.  Maybe I have watched too many soaps... lol

I want Nolan and Bradford's sister to become a thing. Or, just anything and Nolan. Maybe a hammer and Nolan. Or a 2x4 and Nolan.

I do not understand what the deal is with Nolan.  I know it can't be Nathan Fillion.  He had chemistry with anything that moved in "Firefly."  But his character is like a black hole on this show and nothing they try seems to work.  It confuses me.  I'm glad to see they are chemtesting him with others, though.  Maybe they will eventually strike gold.

I totally agree.  Why can't there be a strong friendship?  Bonding through common experience?

That said.....I did really enjoy their UC scenes.  They were a lot of fun to watch.

Allowing the demands of fans to eclipse intelligent storytelling is not wise.  I have no issue, really, with Chenford.  I do think they have amazing chemistry and the show would be foolish not to capitalize on it, but they need to make it make sense within the context of what they have already said in previous seasons.  I think the best Chenford moment in this episode was when they were on the plane and Lucy finds out about Rosalind's escape.  Tim just reaches up and holds her hand without saying anything.  That was a great moment between those two characters.

I checked the movie box office and this movie hasn't done as well (28 million) as the first one (while costing twice as much to make [40 million]) so I am concerned that this may be the end of the Downton Saga.  Makes me sad but at least many of the characters had happy endings in this movie.

I think the timing of the release has hurt them, too.  If this had come out back in December or even early spring I think it would have done better.  Now it is competing with several summer blockbuster type films (Top Gun, Dr. Strange, etc.) and that's what people are more interested in this time of year.  I'm not sure why they had such a delay... I can't imagine it was for post-production reasons, but the constant pushing back the release date was frustrating and I think probably caused some people to lose interest.

I got the impression that Malva cut Claire’s hair to make Claire less attractive to Jamie so she could try to seduce him. And she convinced Lizzie to go along.

It could be that she needed her hair to do more witchcraft, too...

He was so old, more likely he expired on his own from natural causes (or possibly malaria) and she discovered him and didn't tell anyone so that she could use his parts.

Was that not the sin-eater from a previous episode?  They showed him in the recap so I assumed it was him.  It would make her spell doubly powerful, would it not, if she believed he was indeed a sin-eater?

Interestingly, one of my co-workers is the 8th great-grandson of Thomas Jefferson.  No red hair, but very tall!  :)

Sorry for any confusion, handsy was my word.  Didn't think you were "accusing" SN of anything, btw.

Jack #2 for real? Can't act and can't be trusted in a dark room. That's just not a good combo for an aspiring thespian.

Oh no worries!  I just wanted to clarify what I meant.  :)

I guess there's several good reasons we've never seen Jack #2 again.  I can't imagine MBE having to do the rape storyline with that guy.  Would have been awful for her!  I'm glad she felt comfortable enough to speak out against his behavior at the time instead of just putting up with it.

I've never heard of SN being accused of being handsy or whatever. If we was going to start with the actress whose husband may have been peeing in corners to demonstrate his ownership then I've gotta question his timing.

I've long heard the stories about one of the first Jack's being fired for some sort of harassment toward MBE. It would make sense if it was Jack #1 since a) he looked like he was related to the Johnson clan and b) was an ok actor. Jack #2 didn't deliver on A or B so why wait until he hit on a very pregnant MBE to kick him to the curb? If the story is true, it's Jack #1 and Jack #2 was a temp until they could find another "actor" as opposed to Jack #2 who was "a guy who can read lines and not bump into scenery without actually being able to act."

I didn't mean to imply SN is handsy.  When I said he was "hands on" in his acting style I just meant he touched his fellow actors a lot back then.  If you watch old clips you can see what I mean.  I don't think he meant any harm in it - it was just his interpretation of the character.

It was Jack #2 that MBE said was harassing her.

I hadn't heard that about them.  The pre-Matt Ashford Jack (the first or second) was fired for harassing a pregnant MBE.  Are you thinking of him?

No I remember that, too.  That was an unfortunate event that led to a fortunate one (MA being hired).

I am specifically thinking of gossip around 1989-90 that there was friction between HT and SN on the set.  I remember SN's acting style at that time was very "hands on," so maybe she misinterpreted that for harassment.  I don't know but I'm pretty sure they didn't like one another at the time.  Maybe someone else remembers this, too, or maybe I'm experiencing the Mandela effect.  Lol

Hunter.  She was on DOOL.  But that was 30 years ago and she may have been more normal back then.

Didn't she and Stephen Nichols hate each other or am I misremembering?  I want to say she accused him of sexual harassment or something.  I think she was pretty OTT even back then.

His brand of sexy is different than the Brady or JJ way (neither of whom I really find sexy, actually--JJ's cute and I like him but...) I'm not saying you'd ever like him but I definitely think that's why it might be hard for you to see what others might see in him.

Jack's chemistry with women is similar to Fred Astaire's chemistry with women. It is more of the madcap fun variety.  That's not to say there can't be angst or sadness but it's more flirtatious that foaming at the mouth. And no, it doesn't necessarily mean I need to see the couple ripping their clothes off but honesty?  ZZZZZZZZZ to most doing it, even the "hot" ones.

And it's harder to find that brand of chemistry on soaps than it is to find the latter which is why I always miss him when he's gone. It brings out something different in the women who share the screen with him when they play up that comedic side.

This, like 1000%.  I much preferred Jack to the Steve/Bo/Roman types back in the day because he was very much the non-hero type.  As a matter of fact, the times he would try to be heroic usually failed miserably and made him even more relatable and likable (at least to me).  I remember really loving his friendship with Isabella... he was so careful and sweet and genuine with her which made Jennifer crazy at the time.  I think Jack is witty and cerebral and funny... which are all qualities that appeal to me personally, and still would appeal to me if they would just find writers that could capture the spirit of the character again.

On the other hand, this is the natural assumption everyone is making right now because it's so easy. But as others have stated, I don't think people's political views have ever gotten them fired from Days of Our Lives.

I can't help but recall what you guys have said about Robert kelker-kelly and how various actresses banded together to express their displeasure. Given how Lamont, Lindsay and Sal were openly unimpressed with her online, that could have influenced the situation significantly.

What do you guys think? Did the cast voice open discomfort with the producers, or were their expressions of discomfort and disapproval online sufficient enough to make this change happen? Or did Melissa and the producers, who seem to have been on good terms, mutually agree to give her a break?

I don't see how MR could be fired for her political and/or religious beliefs.  That is a law suit waiting to happen and she should sue if that is the case.  Her personal opinions have nothing to do with her work as an actress or her character and are therefore irrelevant.  I could see her leaving willingly, however, either because of pandemic concerns or because of unpleasant treatment by her costars.

It's interesting how folks here mention how good an actor Matthew Ashford is, when I haven't seen him do anything on the show that didn't seem incredibly cheesy and awkward. Even other people I know who watched the show agree he's a bit strange.

Well the show made Jack into a clown to try to play down some of the character damage that occurred after the rape of Kayla and I think they still like to write him that way to some degree.  If you watch clips from early on, circa 1987/88/89, you can really see why I think he's a great actor.  Some of his work with Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans is incredible.  I think in the early days of J & J, even when he was silly, you can see his wit and humor just shine through.  He is definitely a bit of a quirk actor, though.  I agree with you on that.  Lol

I'm wondering if it was because it was a last minute decision and Ron had already written stuff for this alleged J&J story he talked about but we have no spoilers for.

I'm wondering if, like KA, MR saw what was written for J & J and decided it wasn't worth coming back for.  Wouldn't surprise me.

I like MR, but Matthew Ashford can act with a sign post, so I'm not worried about how he might do with CM.  It is admittedly going to be strange, though.

JRoth said this episode will be the one people gonna talk about forever. That turned out to be correct assumption but as it usually happens with Jason and his delusions of grandeur, not for the reasons he thinks.

BTW, Jason said he's a fan of Game of Thrones season 8. Everything you need to know about him as a writer, pretty much.

What JRoth (and other showrunners of a similar mindset) seems to forget is that fans have a VERY long memory.  You screw us over with a terrible ending to a series we have invested much time and, sometimes, money, into and we aren't going to invest our time and money into any of your future projects.  These types of things are career-enders.  Once you break faith with the fans, it is very difficult to get that back.

Jack, on the other hand, has only slept with Jennifer's mother (not MA), a Jennifer lookalike plant who he thought was Jennifer (deception), and Eve (amnesia) after getting together with Jennifer.

I do remember Jack liking the prostitutes back in the day, though... before Jennifer, that is.  I guess they could work with that if they actually care about story history and continuity.
