You would think, or I would anyway, that some bariatric specialist somewhere would be able to get her into a program.  She's on tv, and they have an online presence.  I am sure that fat doctors do watch shows like this.  If there really is no program that can take Tammy, why can't or won't some enterprising RN, along with a consulting physician, a dietitian, a physical therapist, a psychotherapist--the whole team, again *on consult* so they wouldn't be tied full time to this one patient (except for the RN in charge) set up in Tammy's home?  They would have to hire 24-hr. babysitting service and install cameras to make sure she didn't cheat, but maybe after a month or so Tammy could get down to a size where she could go into a regular facility?  When you're as fat as Tammy, the first couple hundred pounds will come off fast, if she can be forced to comply.

If they do something like that, when she gets out, she will just go back to her old eating habits. She has to want to lose the weight bad enough to change and I don't think she's at that point. They may have to try tough love and distance themselves from her until she's ready to buckle down and do it.

Also, Tammy needs to kick Jerry to the curb. He's not helping at all.

had a good chuckle; even when Chris was so upset that he had to leave the table for a minute, he was still like “I’m going to come back and clean up the mess I made cooking”. (period and quotation mark should be correct, hehe 😆)

Yes, it is correct in British English. 🙂

I think one of the most jarring things about this episode, until the end, was that I didn't once see Amy checking her blood glucose levels.

I realize that there is a LOT that goes on that I don't see, but I kinda feel like its irresponsible to have Amy mention at least 4 times that she has diabetes and to not once show her checking her blood sugar.  When my blood sugars were uncontrolled, I remember my doctor telling me that if I ever got pregnant, he would check me into the hospital.  I'm still not sure if he was joking.

And I also think, knowing that she has diabetes she was especially reckless with her eating habits.  Running high glucose levels could have really hurt Gage and all her little jokes about how "the baby wants Chinese food and gummy bears" is especially awful.

I have t1 diabetes, and I check my blood sugar, on average, about 4 times a day.  Sometimes more.  Amy has t2 and may be unaware of her high glucose levels, and she is much more prone to have high blood sugar eating a diet of chinese food, gummy bears, gherkin pickels and peppermint patties.

They should have shown her checking her blood sugar instead of the asthma treatment.  She has mentioned multiple times that diabetes puts her at high risk and if anyone out there is watching, they should not be under the impression that a pregnant t2 diabetic can just eat whatever, not treat high blood sugar and things will turn out well .  IMO Amy got lucky.

Both articles outline some of the potential birth defects.  I get that this show isn't about health or babies, but I think its just irresponsible and gives the wrong impression to show Amy eating all sorts of crap she should not be eating and NEVER checking her blood sugar.  Why not have her do that instead of asthma treatment or the gratuitous shot of her with the sleep apnea machine?

Maybe they didn't want to show self administered treatments for some reason? I don't know, it's  a good question. Diabetics typically have large babies, too.

I am diabetic, insulin dependent, so I know it's  not easy and I am far from perfect, so I won't judge her. Right now I'm battling foot and leg ulcers and was just put on iv antibiotics. I hope this never happens to her.

This lady was a hot mess. Not to offend anyone but the super-religious types tend to do badly at weight loss. There is a "God will save me" attitude re: their health that leads to a total lack of autonomy and initiative. My mom is the same way. Not being as careful about COVID or her diabetes because "when the lord says it's my time, it's my time." It's quite sad because although I haven't read the entire bible I'm pretty sure they preach that we need to take care of our bodies as gifts from god.

Also, gluttony is one of the 7 deadly sins.

I've been under the impression the eating plan Dr. Nowzaradan gives his patients is one they'll have to follow for the rest of their lives (with some modifications made after they reach their goal weight).

OMG, TG!!!! I saw your avatar before your name and thought  "she looks very familiar" LOL. I used to be on RAD.

I agree with you, about the eating plan. It's not made clear that this is a lifelong thing, though the participants should expect that it would be. The surgical program here is different. They don't expect you to lose before the surgery, but you have to go on an OptiFast diet for a few weeks prior to surgery. Most will lose on that, though my landlady's daughter didn't and her surgeon didn't believe her that she'd stuck to it.

  6. What is with this show lately? In the beginning, they usually showed people who got the surgery and lost weight, with the odd exception. Now, it seems like none of them are getting the surgery. It's getting boring.  I wonder how many viewers they have lost because of it?

Chris makes sense but he needs to lose weight just as much as his sisters do.

And Amy is just as deluded as Tammy.  She got what she wanted out of the surgery - getting pregnant.  She was using the strongest amount of birth control, my ass (and the look on Dr. Proctor's face when she said that said to me that he was thinking the same thing.)  So she got pregnant and now she can go back to inhaling  copious amounts of food.  She gives no consideration to raising that kid or to the bad habit she's going to pass on to that kid.

No birth control is 100%. What the dr should have done was suggest termination. She can always get pregnant again after she's lost the weight.

  8. Beth is such a skank and a lush. She gets knocked up at god knows what young age, she begs Jamie to secure an abortion for her- the clinic she goes to makes hysterectomy part of the deal, she agrees and now she's pissed at Jamie? I'm glad she is sterile, twats like her should never reproduce.

And she needs botox or something on her lip that won't close when she occasionally shuts that pie hole of hers.

Oh, and that ranch hand she's boinking is blind as a bat if he hasn't noticed the scar.

  9. I don't know if swearing is allowed, so I'll just say katherine is a humungous sow. I was hoping Richard would smack the crap out of her. I would have, then stood up in court and told the world what a sow she is.

And what happened to Bell's shaky hands?

There was an episode where he was talking to the Doc that was prescribing meds for him and the doc told him it may be stress and to do something like yoga (Bell doing yoga?? riiiight) or swimming. Then, in another episode, Kit's hand was shaking and Bell gave her the same advice that was given to him. He didn't say that it worked for him or that he even tried it, but it must have, since the shaky hand is gone and he's doing fine in the OR.

I got the impression early on in season one that he had been a very good surgeon until the issue with the hand.

How did Dr. Now not force her to go to therapy? She desperately needs it.

So sad that her kids are her excuses to eat herself to death.

I'm surprised he doesn't suggest therapy sooner most of the time. This one should have been referred for it at the first appt. w/ the doctor.
