Here's the thing though. (I'm not replying to your post so much as the idea of what you said as it applies to this discussion in general.)

EVERYTHING we've been debating over the past few weeks--on both sides--is second hand information.

    Or, rather...Let me begin again.

Yes, certain information has come to light. Incidents involving natural hair, "forgetting" to invite NB to record commentary, etc.

But those items do not provide us with enough information to say definitively that a pervasive culture of mistreatment is (or isn't) the sole reason that NB left SH.

As a fan, I'm sorry about the outcome. But suppose NB wanted to leave SH for a while and finally seized the chance to do it. It's her life and her right to do what she wants.

I backed away from the popular theory about NB's departure because people's reactions were getting to be too much for me. (FWIW, anyone who thinks it's hot in here needs to check other spaces.) As of this moment, I'm going to do my best not to comment further either way until/unless we receive clarifying information from an official source.

I have repeatedly posted that none of us knows what went on or is going on behind closed doors at FOX.  I have speculated, as have others, from what we saw from week to week on SH.

I saw the tweet from NB asking why she wasn't being followed by SH on twitter.  The tweet that was pulled down about the DVD commentary, I didn't see.

I also listened to the podcast about NB wanting to wear her hair natural.

And, I still say the information that is coming from FOX and being spread is second-hand and spurious. The information comes from questionable sources: people who are related to SH and possibly their cohorts.

I'm not trying to be argumentative or troublesome.  I'm only stating my opinion.  I have made no attempts to cloak my opinion as the gospel, because it is not.  It is limited to what I actually know, and that's little.  Remember there are 3 sides to every story:  your side, my side, and the truth.  I don't know the truth, and unless someone here had a front-row seat at what really happened at FOX, then they are speculating like the rest of us.  I cannot speak for others, so I'lll say "speculating like I am".

I don't think I ever said NB didn't have a right to make a grown-up choice to leave SH.   I just speculate that she had a boot in her ass as she was leaving the room.

    Deuces.

No I am not, actually. I'm taking the stuff I've read about, or remember reading about and piecing together the information. I have no insider knowledge - I'm just trying to piece together the pieces and the puzzle pieces match pretty well together. I've read stuff SH from day 1, so hindsight being 20/20, by looking back at those things, it's like finding out who a blind item is about, rereading the blind and wondering why you didn't think it was Actor X in the first place!!

    Speaking of Blinds.

Bonker's Leading Leading Blind Item. (April 2015)

      Reveal hidden contents

Remind me to tell you about the bonkers leading lady that is driving the cast and crew of her popular-yet-modestly-rated series mad — so much so that pretty much everyone is dreading going back to work next season. (Sounds like it’s time for my first set visit!)

Not a CBS show and Not a FOX Comedy.

      Reveal hidden contents

Remember the “bonkers leading lady” blind item I embedded in a recent Ask Ausiello? I hear the the situation has worsened considerably in the two months since that item posted. In fact, the very real possibility exists that She Who Shall Not Be Named may not be around for the entire upcoming season.

Bonkers was the term always used when describing Sleepy Hollow in the early days. That particular word always. Also, AM was the only character killed off that the networks changed their minds to not do it midseason, but waited till the end. FOX is put in there - not a comedy right...but the FOX clue is right there.

Also, popular and modestly rated applies to SH. The first blind was April 2015. The second "situation has worsened" was June 2015, right as SH was filming. We also know NB wanted out end of season 2, and these blinds occurred early season 3.

    __________________________________________________

    - Eric H has said over and over that a doctor's note was provided by actor, and later in other tweets alluded to mental health issues. This is a very specific thing to say. Actors have "exhaustion" all of the time, but you never hear about a doctor's note.

    Sleepy Hollow Filming Shut Down.

This was when I suspect the Dr's note appeared so they shut down production so she could "recover".

Eric H always says health. Not exhaustion, which is the usual word used for actors - no, it's always health. She even addresses her health too.

Season 2 of SH finished filming mid-December 2014. One of the writers said at one point that it took about 2 weeks to film an episode. Backtrack those weeks, and you get pretty close to the time of filming Pittura Infamante - aka the episode that everyone complained about was sidelining Abbie.

But if you know the above, you might also think that maybe, the reason she didn't appear in the episode that much, was because she "called in sick", they could only wait so long for her to get better, and had to make changes and film something at least, or lost a lot of money.

So was NB sidelined? Or did she not appear in certain episodes in the first place, because she wanted out and was "sick."

Last year, knowing what I knew, I would have picked option #1. Knowing what I know now? Definately Option #2.

The above is not the only reason I think it's NB - lots more out there. This is a small piece.

If NB is the cause of all of the problems on SH by wanting to leave, why can she not be held accountable for that, even partially?

Is it impossible to enjoy the show for what you really want out of it (TM), and not disparage NB?  If it were me, I wouldn't think twice about an actor who left a show if she weren't the primary reason for my watching in the first place.  NB doesn't deserve the hate, but SH does.

  3. As hard as it is to come by roles in this industry, a WOC would not leave a job like the one that NB had, the female lead in SH.  It was after the contracts were signed and SH was getting ready to go into its second year that NB fully realized what she had gotten into, IMO.

NB didn't leave  SH to return to movies.  She was ecstatic over the job at SH.  Every interview she did attested to it.

I've been on this planet long enough to know when someone has been royally shafted.  NB didn't deserve the way she was treated by TPTB, and the fandom didn't deserve the way we were treated.

Though I understand this comment, it annoys me because it's like, "So fucking what if a show is racist and sexist, it's more important for people to get their paychecks."

If writers are talented, there are a million ways to write off a character.  This shit screams of the Person of Interest crap.  It's as if someone feels, "we really, really, want to get rid of this brown skinned black woman, so we'll make sure she'll NEVER be able to come back."  That's what annoys me.

I won't be watching next season.  Dear Fox, this is why folks watch "reality" TV.

Exactly.  TPH left POI for movies was CBS' spin.  Shortly thereafter, she landed the female lead on Empire.  WGN America is promoting the hell out of POI using TPH in a lot of their promos.

I started watching POI for Taraji, and I left when they killed her off and offered up a lame excuse for doing so.

No one in their right mind would willingly give up a steady paycheck (a tv series) for an iffy paycheck (movies), unless their circumstances were so unbearable that they would do it in a heartbeat to save their sanity.  If you know someone is shitting on you and you know that they know it, what do you do?  When you know there is no win for you no matter what you do, what do you do?  If you know the only thing you have left in the situation is your dignity, what do you do?  Sometimes you have to burn a bridge or two, and cut your losses.

The old adage, If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything, is so apropos. If you don't understand and cannot empathize with what POC really go through in this country try not to minimalize it or trivialize it.

Sleepy Hollow has been slated for the spring schedule on Fridays. It doesn't say how many episodes it will get, but that probably means thirteen, right? I'm not sure if holding it until the spring is a good or bad thing for the show. On the one hand, a long hiatus generally isn't good for the ratings in network tv. On the other hand, maybe it's better to let the controversy and bad feelings die down a bit before premiering the show. Either way, it doesn't look like Fox has a ton of confidence in SH. Then again, the schedule as a whole doesn't look great. Maybe SH will even squeak out another season after this. Hey, Fox has to fill all those AI hours somehow.

They are most definitely trying to wait for the controversy to die down.  I will be back in the Spring, but not to watch or praise or promote SH.  I will be one of the voices denouncing it.

  6. I don't know what was said or is being said at FOX, but I do know what was presented to me on screen.  They screwed over NB, Abbie Mills, and the Ichabbie fandom.  Let me put this out there for those of you who don't know:  I was for Ichabbie, Abbie and Crane, together on screen.  It didn't matter if it was romantic or not, I just wanted NB and TM on screen as equals.

I'm not going to hate on TM, because I like the actor, and because NONE of us knows what happened behind closed doors at FOX.

If SH tanks, and I truly hope it does, NO ONE has the right to point the finger at NB, not FOX and not TM fans.  It wasn't her fault the show was losing ground and it is not up to her true fans to support SH so that it can stay on the air.

NB had no power on that show.  If she had, she'd still be there.

What FOX is spewing and what we saw happen on our TV screens week after week are butting heads.  FOX is still asking us to participate in their BS.  Ooh ooh!  They wanted a diverse cast, well we'll keep Lance, Lyndie, and Sophia.  I'm still not interested.  Ooh, ooh!  We'll send Crane off to research the origins of the Witnesses.  I'm still not interested.  Ooh, oooh!  We'll update Crane's appearance.  Once you take Crane out of his 1700's garb, cut his hair even shorter, and shave his beard, you no longer have Ichabod Crane.  What you'll have is a clone of every other male lead in every other show on TV.

I wasn't pretending to like NB/AM, I was and am total trash.  You don't even have to watch SH to know how women, especially WOC, are treated in this patriarchal society.  It is shameful.

The only power I have in this crap is to not watch SH.  It is my way of plucking my eyes out to that which offends me.

I'm not hopeful about how the show is going to portray Dracula. It's a difficult characterization to pull off -- he must possess a surface suaveness while still coming across as deeply inhuman, alien and vile. Lugosi got it right, but no one else since then.

Lugosi-types aren't what is wanted anymore.  It's a great loss for the audience.  The people who make vampire shows want their vampires to be more human than evil.  It's a big draw for their much younger audiences, but it's a turnoff for me. The audiences are utterly shocked when a vampire behaves the way his nature says he should behave.  The audiences attribute human qualities to beings that are inherently evil.  Vampires are dead creatures walking among and preying upon the living.

Interesting article. The picture of what happened and why keeps getting clearer and clearer....

I'm hoping for a good shady government intrigue in my SH S4. And someone to write a BTS book.

Not so interesting so much as typical.  FOX is blaming Abbie's demise on NB.  Tom is not a "big star".  Who exactly was TM before SH?  This doesn't change how I feel about TM, but FOX's statement only adds fuel to the fire.

The positive feedback about SH they claim to have gotten back that made them renew the series is utter BULLSHIT!

FOX was and is tone death to what a great portion of their audience wanted.  We did not tune in for CFD and nor will we tune in for the Ichabod Crane Show.  We paid for SH with the time we devoted to the show.  We want what we paid for, not some half-assed knockoff.

Every freaking time I see some BS like FOX's BS, I see someone blaming the victim.  I will not accept it, because I cannot accept it.

Let it be known to all of you who will tune into SH, you do what you have to do.  I ain't mad atcha.  As for me, I hope SH does a Hindenburg--crashes and burns like a mutha.

Apparently the life of the Witness is to guide Ichabod Crane and then just randomly die, their mission apparently done.

I think both Ichabod and Abbie are great characters but I wouldn't want to see an Ichabod-only show or an Abbie-only show.  The strength of the show was always the two of them together, which is something clearly the various producers of the show and Fox never believed.

    Exactly.

Has anyone posted about the new Nikki Beharie movie on Canadian Netflix yet? Last Day Without You or something like that. Anyway in it she gets to be the sexy, amazing woman we know her to be AND sing! Didn't realize she was so tiny and had that perfect hourglass figure going on since Sleepy Hollow always hid her charms with frumpy, bland clothing.

Not a new movie.  She was very good in it.  I was totally surprised by how tiny she really is.  That is the reason I didn't like the scene of NB and TM holding hands going into purgatory.  Her hand is sooo tiny, and Tom's is sooo big.  It looked like an adult holding a child's hand.

  11. I just read this on a site I'm not familiar with, so I high-tailed it straight here to find out if the renewal is indeed true.  Well, bust my buttons and call me stooopid.  Never in a million years did I think that FOX would be that damn gullible to think that Crane can succeed as a character without Abbie Mills character as played by NB. To be honest, without Abbie, Crane is just a caricature.  Well, I will not participate in their lunacy.

Called it. Containment has been cancelled. I sure hope KG sticks to her guns because I doubt I have even one more season in me never mind two. Tonight is the series finale for me.

Plec said, after IS said S8 will be his last season, KG can stay as long as she wants. They have not completely closed the door on her yet.  If I had any influence on KG, I would tell her to get as far away from TVD as she possibly can and never work for the CW again.

If the plan was to strip Bonnie of everything, and I do mean everything, why didn't they just let her die?  She doesn't have any connections to Mystic Falls now.

I for one am going to leave the show to the fans it is being written for, because clearly I am not in those numbers.

Series finale honestly. That letter was Chekov's gun and blatantly ignoring it makes me wonder if Plec got her degree from Clown College instead of whatever purported program seems to teach hackneyed plots without absolutely no follow through and an insistence on focusing on characters who are no longer on canvas. I am freeeeeeeeeeeeee.

I'm not going to bother watching the episode.  I said I would move on if they pulled a fast one.  I'm with you, I'm free, too.  I intend to get as far away from this dreck as possible.

I'm not looking for a way back; however I did find a new series that I'm enjoying and has helped with getting over Sleepy Hollow.

'Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries'.  It's an Aussie series.  Very good dynamic between Miss Fisher and the Inspector.  The other characters are also well done.

I love this series.  I binge-watched it on Netflix back in January. I love, love, love Phryne Fisher. I wasn't going to watch it at first because of the Australian accent.  I didn't want to struggle trying to understand what was being said over paying attention to the story. However, it turned out not to be a problem.  I think I'll watch it again. Thanks for reminding of some very good TV.

  15. The beauty of Bamon shippers is we don't care about what other shippers or Bamon haters or KG haters or Bonnie haters think of our ship.  We don't care about pseudo-POC pretending to understand the plight of our favorite witch or KG.  As long as we get it, the rest doesn't matter.  I've said this before, and I'll say it again, I'm a Bonnie Stan.  I'm a ride or die chick for Bonnie Sheila Bennett.  If Bonnie loves Damon and Damon loves Bonnie, that's all is needed.  It was the prerequisite for all the other ships, so why does Bamon have to be different.

I will always believe that Damon is obsessed with Elena because she has Katherine's face, but a genuinely good soul.  That doesn't make it inherently evil, it just makes it sad for Damon in the end.  Damon pursued Elena relentlessly, and then he got her.  She never really chose him.  The show might have been ambiguous, but Elena was sire-bonded to Damon.  This is not to say that she did not love Damon in some way before she turned, but she was not in love with him.

In the end, the truly end of TVD, if ND decides to come back, Elena will come back for Stefan. THIS IS MY OPINION.  Others can state their opinions as well.

There is nothing degrading about loving someone.  Hating someone, now, that is a different beast altogether.  It destroys the hater while the hated go on not giving a shit.

  16. I think Damon sacrifices not being able to see Elena again. Why would he go through all the trouble to save Bonnie only to sacrifice her in the end?  It's illogical.  He said he loves her, even though the writers had him qualifying that love.  Damon-Freaking-Salvatore WILL NEVER sacrifice Bonnie Bennett, for himself, Elena or anyone of their friends.  Damon sacrificing Bon-Bon just ain't gonna happen.

On Fridays at 7pm, I still want to watch SH.  It's stooopid, I know. I don't watch too much TV so SH was my show.

I started watching because of NB.  TM was a nice surprise.  I didn't know who he was, but I thoroughly enjoyed him as Ichabod Crane.  Ichabbie was my OTP in any shape or form they were given to me, as long as they were on screen together.

Oh, well. If I can just stay away from this forum, I think I'll be able to let SH go.

  18. ^^ Bonnie was a cheerleader.  The very first time she finds out who the "sexy danger guy" was is when Damon brings Caroline to practice. Bonnie and Elena are talking and Bonnie keeps calling Carolie because she's concerned that Caroline is going to be late for practice (if I remember correctly) when Damon drives up with Caroline.

The BTS shenanigans aside, I think if NB was out what other choice did they have but to kill Abbie? I guess they could've done a recast, but that would've gone over like a block of lead. It would not have made sense for her to run off into the sunset with Danny or take an FBI assignment in Quanico, leaving Crane and her sister behind. I guess if renewed they could've pretended she left for another job out of town once they neutralized Pandora and THO and all was right with the world. But again, once evil returned to SH it wouldn't have made sense for her not to return to help. Unfortunately, death was IMHO the only option for the character if NB was not remaining with the show.

That said, I think what was most infuriating about her death was not necessarily that she died,  but how it was handled. Abbie has always been one to sacrifice herself for the greater good, which though noble,  is also disturbing since for the most part she was always sacrificing herself for her white counterparts which I won't get into with this post. But my point is her sacrificing herself was very much in character. However her coming to the realization that her only purpose was to help Crane reach his full potential was insulting to women and all POC IMHO. It really laid it out there loud and clear what the writers thought of Abigail Mills and what they've always thought of her, which was that she was nothing more than a magical negro. She had no journey because her purpose was to help Crane.  Which is ironic because I've always felt the roles were switched, that Crane had lived for 250 years in order to meet Abbie in her time, and help her reach a greater realization. That being as he'd lived way beyond his expiration date, he should've been the one to die, not Abbie.  But I digress.

TPTB threw a bone to those still wearing rose colored glasses hoping that Abbie will return in some form or another next season by throwing out that line from Crane about how he'll have to find her spirit in the new body it's landed in. SMH. But really, if Abbie was a mere stepping stone for Crane on his journey to where ever, why is Abbie needed anymore at all? As stated in the finale, she's served her purpose, which I think was a clear message to fans from TPTB that Abbie/Crane are over. NB is gone. Abbie is gone. It's time to move on to bigger and better adventures with Crane.

Will this move kill the show? Maybe. Maybe not.  From what I've seen over the last few weeks there is a dam good chance the show will get renewed. I believe FOX has a lot of a dead air next season and need something to fill it. SH may be needed to fill that dead air. If renewed I doubt they'll go a full 18 episodes though. I think they'll do what Grimm is doing and do 10-13 episodes and then be done. I can't imagine the show sustaining itself for a 5th season.

I agree.  The simple fact that TPTB made it clear that Abbie had served her purpose in bringing Crane this far should have been the impetus to let her ride off into the sunset.  If she wasn't important enough to go to the next level with Crane, then she should not have been important enough to kill off even if NB left the show.

It was their way of telling us that NB would never be welcomed back to SH.

  20. So, is Bonnie a Witch/Huntress?  If she is, she is one powerful BAMF.  If she hurts or kills one of her friends though, she will never be the same.  Why did it have to go this route?  WTF happened?  I guess Bamon is off the table for the foreseeable future.

The preview for next week sounded as though she is still close to dying.  I thought Rayna's last life was supposed to save Bonnie.
