  1. I have a general question: Aren't hallways a thing where they live? I mean, they open their front door and step directly into their living room? With their shoes? Where do they put the dirty shoes of four kids, their coats, hats etc? Won't the flooring be ruined pretty quickly?

Every random person, the delivery guy, the mail man, everyone ringing the doorbell can see their living room and kitchen. I would hate that. I can understand a situation like that in an old house, but they did pretty much everything new. Why do you choose this?

There are many options for kids that are a little less intimidating for early readers. Not sure what's up with giving a kid a Bible they won't actually read.

Although, IMO, all Bibles are too scary for kids.

My son is two and he got the cutest bible for his baptism.German bible

This is a popular one for 6 year olds in Germany. The Duggar's certainly would not like it. It is very German, there is some nudity in it. 😁

I feel so bad for the Serwald kids. Spurgeon is 6 years old and has no exposure to normal things. No school, no sports team, no music lessons, no running around town with friends, no first secrets from his parents. My neighbour's son is 6 years old. He has so much fun after school and on the weekends. He and his friends are riding bikes through town, building forts in the forest, playing on the playground,... They experience so many things on their own without their parents constantly watching them. Ok, we are in Germany but I don't think "normal" 6 years olds in the US are that different from German ones.

  3. I just watched Spurgeons birthday video and had to come here after day 4. Aren't there bibles for children in their religion??? I am Catholic and there are so many beautiful bibles for children. My sister's favorite book was actually her bible all through childhood. It had pictures, the stories were short and simple. What is Spurgeon supposed to do with this one? I don't get it.

Besides that I find the lack of wrapping paper awful, Spurgeon's homeschooling situation sad and the whole birthday week thing ridiculous.

And what happened to the kitchen door?? Seriously??

  4. This topic is funny to me. In my part of the world many, many people don't use dryers because of environmental and financial reasons. I'm one of them. And when I lived in North America friends always wondered why because according to them doing laundry with a dryer is soo easy and not much work. Well, apparently not for every one :D. That bring said, I have to admit that there are occassions where I have to look in the laundry basket (or even on the clothing reck (?)) while searching for clean clothes. So, I'm with Jill in that case.

Because they're too lazy to housebreak it /take it outside when it needs to go, and teach it how to act in the house so it's not destroying everything.

That's exactly the reason why I don't have a dog. I don't want the extra work, I don't want to go outside in horrible weather,... . I get all that but then don't get a dog! Fenna seemed so happy in the beginning of the video 😢

YES! I was a single mom, had to get up for every night feeding, get up and dressed and dress her, take her to daycare, go to work, pick her up, come home and cook, clean, wash, everything. I never felt "exhausted", this is just what needed to be done, so I did it. Never gave it a second thought. My mom had 3 of us, worked 40 hours and overtime when available, cooked everyday including the weekends, baked on Sundays, went to a laundromat cause we didn't have a washer and dryer, I could go on. It's just what it was.

I guess some people are better at parenting than others. I'm a single mom of a 1 year old and I'm exhausted. I love my boy to death but I'm tired constantly.  Imaging having a toddler and a newborn, no, I could never do it.

Not to get too off topic, but "mema" prounced me-ma is common among German speaking folks.  The internet offically says Oma for grandma, but Germans we've known have found Oma and Opa(grandfather) too close in sound and use Mema and Opa.

I know Cathy probably missed her grandsons, but they should be social distancing.

As a German living in Germany I have never heard that before. At least in Southern Germany I only know of Oma and Opa (or Omi and Opi) and have only heard Meema on TBBT.

Are the social distancing rules in the US still not allowing contact between different households?

I think it's sweet to see how much the boys love their grandparents.

Felicity has a very cultivated and calculated social media presence and image, thanks to her pretentious parents. Most shots seem meticulously planned, to the point of being forced and unnatural. She looks like her life is a blur of frilly dresses, bows and adult venues and company. Giddy’s presence on Instagram shows a more dishevelled, cheeky toddler, who is allowed to get dirty and have fun with lots of appropriate age play and exploration. He is able to have an candid photo taken in the moment of organic play, without it being staged and over-filtered to an influencer standard - and it shows. Felicity may have that life in private, but her parents seem way too image conscious and concerned with making money from staged, social media moments, to have the mundane be witnessed.

Random snapshot Joy/Jinge Instagram comparison for fun 👇🏼38F05AC5-9E41-4292-B494-CE215C40082E.thumb.jpeg.74dddf4b16fc8cf8dfa7488318b1cee1.jpeg78C75B0F-92BE-410F-9CDC-B460E3D822B0.thumb.jpeg.7d0f1224486ac3d6d75b09bda4ee018a.jpeg

In their insta stories you can see Felicity with a bed head, wearing a soccer jersey and not matching shorts, wearing a shirt with stains, splashing herself with water,... I don't post any photos of my son online (not even with friends or family on Facebook) and I hope someday every parent understands how harmful photos like all of the above can be.

Anyway, I would prefer being raised by Jinger and Jeremy than Joy and Austin. At least Felicity has somewhat normal relatives, meets different kinds of people and will hopefully have a small number of siblings.

  9. I still don't know how people can judge a little girl and her life solely based on pictures posted in a forum. Only looking at their Instagram stories would give people a totally different perspective on Felicity. To me she seems like a completely normal little girl.

    Where do you live?

My friend is living in Taiwan right now (teaching) and its one of the safest places to be. They aren’t shut down, most public places are still open, she’s still teaching in person. Countries like Taiwan and Singapore really learned from SARS and they have handled it well. We should be looking at their models best we can in the future.

I'm in Germany. We have lots of infections but our government has reacted very quickly and we are doing OK right now.

  11. That's the difference between living in a small country VS a huge one. Here everyone has to stay home, no driving around. Only healthy activities are allowed like walking, cycling etc. Kids drew rainbow pictures and taped them on a window facing the street, so children walking by know that in this house another child has to stay home.

I think it's sweet how close they are to grandma and liked their picnic in her front yard. It's so hard for grandparents to not see their grandchildren.

I think Jill has it backwards.  There was a birthday parade in our neighbourhood  on Friday.  Everyone drove past the little girl who was sitting in her front yard.  Some of the cars were decorated, and some people, relatives and friends who would have been invited to the cancelled party, I assume, dropped off gifts.

Are these drives still allowed in the US? In my country you aren't allowed to use your car for unnecessary trips. You can drive to work, the doctor's office, the grocery store, the pharmacy and to visit relatives when they need help. Everything else would get you in trouble.

Besides that I liked his birthday because Israel seemed to like and enjoy this day.

  13. When I watched the handwashing video, I couldn't turn my eyes off the running water. How  wasteful!!! Here every kid learns that you turn off the water while soaping your hands, your hair, body, whatever.

Besides that I don't understand the criticism of Felicity. She is a little child. Most kids I know have phases in which they are little show offs. And I hope every child thinks they are special and mean everything to their parents. At least I hope my son knows that (and that doesn't mean he is spoiled).

I would love to see a pic/post of FeliciTee just playing like a normal, average kid. With a doll,  a stuffed animal, a kid appropriate toy. That would seem more authentic than the way they prance her around like an adult who enjoys restaurants and other adulty things.

Then you should look at their instagram stories. I saw Felicity playing soccer, playing with a doll, wooden toys (which I really give them credit for, I hate most of the plastic toys), spending time at a playground etc. . When I look at their insta stories I see a normal joyful kid.

With Jinger and Jeremy constantly posting old pictures I think they don't spend as much time in restaurants as most people think.

  15. I think the post is really cute and I think it's wonderful that Jinger seems to really enjoy watching Felicity growing up and developing her own personality. IMO that really sets her apart from the other Duggar parents. I also don't think they use Felicity as a "prop". There is no difference between Jinger and Jeremy's use of instagram and the other parents I follow on there. Personally I would never post a picture of my child on any social media platform, public or private but I know that many, many people disagree with me these days.

I also don't see the problem with the Mozart concert. It was his birthday. IMO you don't have to study on your birthday evening / night and how amazing is a concert like that? I would enjoy a gift like that very much.

  16. Maybe Jeremy is the same kind of student I was. Taking everything really (too) easy during the semester and then studying in panic mode at the end of the semester shortly before the exams. I wouldn't advise doing it this way but I need the pressure and panic and it worked. I probably could have had better grades but at least I enjoyed life and the big city during my time at university. I guess he is the same and as long as I don't know that he is failing in school I won't judge him for enjoying his life and new opportunities as much as he can.

For my brand of Christianity, Thomas Kincaid is too secular.  We are mandated to have a picture of the Last Supper in the kitchen/dining room, and the rest of our art can be found here https://www.leafletonline.com/religious-statues-and-decor/wall-art-all

I'm Catholic and know no one who has art like that in their home. Luckily in my country we can have all the secular art we want and have no required pictures.

Ivy is a real cutie and I like that her clothes aren't particularly girly.

  18. In Jeremy's insta story Jinger was hanging out with the guys while someone else was taking care of Felicity on a carousel, so she seems to have fun as well.

I think Jinger looks great. I love her style (especially the shades!!) and I also think her hair looks great.

As someone who suffers from IBS I am so jealous of people who can enjoy a food crawl. I would love to be able to do something like that.

Yeah. I've never heard that answer from anybody except somebody in the clothing industry or a model.

Unusual from a man but,  to my mind, really unusual for somebody who works in a field like the ministry. And is always getting photographed in book stores.

Italy, for crap's sake. What happened to art, architecture, history, literature, music, the beauties of the natural world -- and in Jer's case the history of the branch of his own family from which he gets his surname?

No kidding that was a telling answer.

At least in middle Europe Italy is known for its fashion and I know many, many people who travel to Milan just for the latest trends. Everyone I know who goes to Italy for vacation is looking forward to the shopping there and if I come back from a trip to Italy one of the first questions is always "What did you buy?". But that's from a German perspective. Isn't Jeremy's family from Italy? So I think he knows what Italy has to offer.

I also don't think being interested in fashion is unusual for this generation of men. My teenage age students and my brother and his friends (who are in their late twenties) are a 100% into fashion and style and they care a lot about everything from haircut to socks and shoes. However, I read an article once that stated that styles/outfits that are considered fashionable in Europe are seen as metrosexual or homosexual in the US. Maybe there really is a big difference in culture. IMO Jeremy's style is definitely not typical for the average male (which is fine for me, the world would be pretty boring if everyone wore the same things) but his interest in fashion is totally normal.

I am a German catholic and therefore probably at the top of Jinger and Jeremy's "list of sinners" 😉 but they are still my favorite family out of all the Duggar families (even if that isn't that difficult considering the other options :D). They seem to love each other and their daughter a lot, they seem to use birth control, they go out and meet people, they wear fashionable clothes, eat good food, they at least claim to want to visit other parts of the world and I still hold out hope that Jinger will only have 3-4 kids and that their children won't be homeschooled. I would never want to be friends with them but they are the most interesting Duggar family and I like looking at their life from afar. However, I don't know what it says about me that I'm still following the Duggars years after moving back from North America. 🤷‍♀️
