Somebody commented that Katie reminded them of someone, but couldn’t come up with a name.  I’m thinking of Shailene Woodley.

For me it was Mindy "Natalie" Cohn from "Facts of Life".

I feel like they're cramming Mayim down our throats.  I can't find anywhere where the host is named, just the contestants.  I have to watch the beginning of the show and then change the channel when I find she's on.

I tried The Jeopardy Fan and not only is it not listed but the co-hosting announcement really ticked  me off..."I also hope that this announcement will stop the constant lobbying from so-called “fans” who, often for misogynistic or anti-Semitic reasons, do not want to see Bialik hosting."  Uh....after all the guest hosts my first choice was Robin Roberts, second Buzzy Cohen, then Ken.

I've asked friends, none of whom watch Jeopardy, about her.  The reaction has been "Who?".  Till I tell them she was on Big Bang Theory.  Then they say they like her.  Me?  I never watched Big Bang and my only experience with her has been her commercial and her Jeopardy performance.  Fail.

I've been ready to give up on Jeopardy and then Ken shows up and I'm happy temporarily.  I don't think this will last.....they'll eventually have her on too long for me to even watch to check.

The JBoard post shows the rerun schedule and the Archive marks the first game of Mayim or Ken hosting. It continues with one host or the other until it switches.

Add me to the group that has read "Cheaper by the Dozen" & "Belles on their Toes", enjoyed them & the Mom was an early example of a "Working Mom"....

Read both books and saw both Myrna Loy movies. If someone I know gets startled I still use "six and nine-tenths inches" in always getting a joy to see Clifton Webb's reaction to the son honking the horn while he works on the car.

The J! Archive is still a wonderful resource, but I can never get the media clue links to go anywhere other than "404 Not Found."  I infer from other posts that it's not just me who can't get them to work, but one of the archive's people often remarks on another board about how many he's had to do on a given day, so I imagine they work for somebody.  I just don't know what I'm doing wrong!

    ,,,

You are not doing anything wrong; there is just nothing there with the links. As the daily archivist part of my job is to code the clue with proper link tags even though there is no image in the system.

The dream is to someday add the images, but that is not something that can be done with a wave of the wand. It's a different process to capture/upload the images and beyond what I do for my part in getting the new games done.

On the JBoard I comment about the media clues a lot because they add time to the process. The archivists have access to an OCR (optical character reader) tool that can take a clue's wording as it appears on the show and then copy/paste it in the archive's input system.

It's a great time saver to not have to type each word of a clue and all I have to do for each clue is touch-up such as making word(s) uppercase and adding player/host responses and comments.

Where the work bogs down is media clues as the OCR can't read the lines of smaller type closed-captioning. That has to be done word by word and and the whole clue usually takes 3-4 parts as it appears as the words are said. It's a start/stop kind of thing that slower than a regular clue entry.

I also have to add <> coding tags for a "this" or seen "here" and such. Sometimes it's not as clear where to add the image (or mp3 or mp4) tag and I have to pause to decide the best spot to insert the (non-working) link.

Season 18 (2001-2002) does have working links as the head guy captured all of them when the season ran on GSN.

Hope that gives a little insight to the dreaded 404s.

He said Sing Sing which is how I always have heard it referred to.

Yes, Sing Sing. If the archive has that kind of error the best explanation is usually that I messed up something, which happens with so many moving parts. I'll see posts here at varying times while the quicker way to get my attention is a correction suggestion. Point your cursor at the clue number and click. From there you can submit a correction. It's fixed now, thank you.

So are they actually airing an episode today?  I am in the Pacific time zone and election coverage starts at 4:00 pm.  My station is not showing Jeopardy! today.

Yes, there is a new episode for 11/3/20. I entered it into the archive about an hour and a half ago: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6858

Am I wrong, or is it true that if the middle guy - who was the only one to get FJ - had bet all his money, he would’ve won? I know that’s not really the strategy third place people should necessarily follow, but I’d be kicking myself forever if I had missed out on winning because of that.

I wonder how long it will be until we start seeing the no-audience shows.

Yes, Ben in the middle could have won by betting more.  With 2800 he had a maximum of 5600 and his 3201 end score was 399 shy of winning the game.

Shows without an audience are scheduled to air May 18 - 29 and no shows have been taped since then. The season was originally scheduled to end on July 24th.

When the audience was shown at the beginning of this episode, I wondered who the fellow was sitting by himself in the row of chairs along the front of the audience seating. He had a big notebook or pad of paper on his lap. All the judges were in front of him.

    Anyone?

I got a laugh out of dung beetle being an answer. When I was a kid I spent a lot of time watching dung beetles roll their balls of manure to wherever they were going, and having great difficulty when that poop ball rolls into a depression in the dirt and they have to try and shove it out of the hole. Yeah, I'm easily entertained. But admit it -- that's not something one sees every day.

That's Jimmy of the Clue Crew and many times in a similar shot you can look for Sarah next to him.

Another archive night for me, so I must reiterate (on the off chance anyone involved with the J! Archive site reads here) how much I appreciate whatever changed this season that it is consistently updated daily, and early in the day.

The Valentine clue belonged in the Toddler Tournament.

Noblesse oblige, desert, Cher, boiling, and radiation were all varying degrees of surprising as TS, but the Hinckley TS was as shocking as last night's Mississippi TS.

I was horrible in the Cast of the TV Show category; I don't watch any of the shows, and the only one I could guess based on the info in the clue was Dr. Who.  I missed a couple of the Civil War clues (war history is not my bag) and could not spit out Gulf of Aden, so I had a worse first round than is typical for me.

In DJ, of course I didn't know any of the religious fiction clues (and I find it offensive at least three of the five were about Judeo-Christian novels) and only correctly guessed one of the Opera Zingers clues (Don Giovanni) -- my two worst subjects!

FJ came to me very quickly, but overall it was not a good game for me.  Boo, hiss.

With "Millionaire" gone I have transferred that time gained to archiving the J! episode each morning. Being in the West makes the timing reasonable. I saw the need after two weeks into the season showed little progress with the archiving. You are very welcome and I appreciate your words. Yes, I read here although my regular hangout is jboard.tv.

  10. jboard.tv has a daily thread and any visual for a FJ! clue is always included in the third post.

thejeopardyfan.com also has a daily recap that will add the image to go along with the FJ! clue when it occurs as it did on Tuesday.

Both sites take advantage of the 9:30am CT airing of the show and have things up before noon Eastern most days with early discussion allowed.

I got Fiji because of a former professor who has been involved in a heritage management project there for awhile.  I can't quite remember the exact details, but I remembered her mentioning discussion of "introduced" people as part of heritage management as Fiji was a site for relocation during the Indian indenture system.

I will admit I said ears at first for lobectomy (I was tired...) in part because of the cosmetic surgery reconstruction procedures for people who stretch their ear lobes.

And just to tease you all who are irked by some of the physical appearance "quirks" of contestants, if I'm ever on the show, I'll make sure to show off my large tattoos, have my stretched lobes visible, and squint at the board because my point of focus is pretty close to my face and it's not easy for me to read at a distance, even with proper contact lenses.  I won't dance though - nobody wants to see that.

Don't forget to do the upspeak:

That picture of the Sermon on the Mount - the way Jesus has his head tilted & has his hand in the air, it looks like he's saying a dismissive, "Yadda yadda yadda."  (And I've looked a gazillion pictures on google trying to find this one. The j-archive gives me a 404 not found error.)

I'm a regular on J!Board and only a casual visitor here, so just saw this now.

The artist is Giuseppe Bartolomeo Chiari.

During the credits of J! at the end they will acknowledge the source for video clues and images.  For this painting it was Superstock that was listed.  I found this painting under Google images as well after scrolling down a bit and from there found a source that listed the artist.

I live in San Francisco.  I kept trying to read the street signs so I could see exactly where Ray's house is located.  While they kept talking about it being a three story house, there was more than one door.  It was either what we call a two flat or a three flat.  That is, each floor is an apartment.  Ray and his brother lived in the upper flat.  The walls that were coming apart were on the enclosed back porch.  From what they showed, the walls are not what you would normally imagine.  These are one layer of beadboard held together with wide spaced 2X4s.

There was so much beautiful original woodwork in that house.  Damn.  It would be worth a lot of money if it was in good shape.  As it is, Ray is in a bad place.  Dealing with the city and contractors to do repairs will probably end up in his losing the building.  If he could get it fixed up and rent the units,  he would do well.  Rents are very high here.  I did wonder if they weren't showing the other floors because there are renters living there.  They may not be hoarders but the building is unsafe.  (I have almost finished massive amounts of repairs that were needed because I had a hoarder living in the upper unit of my two flat.  Fortunately I had money put away and could afford to not have a tenant for a long time.  I doubt Ray is in that position.)

Shannon made me love Corey Chalmers even more.  He was so good at being kind to her.  He saved his snark for the talking heads.  He recognized just how unstable she is.  I worry about her kids and hope her family checks in regularly.

Central Avenue was clearly shown, so Panhandle area?

    ********

Other comments wondered about property taxes?  With Prop 13 in effect it could be $500 or lower a year?

  14. I voted 10 for Tape Face, 5 each for Laura Bretan, The Clairvoyants & Jon Dorenbos and 1 for Sofie Dossi.

Counting up the first live show performances, semis and the final my tally from when the acts performed is:

Sal: 9+1+1=11 (9th to perform then led off the semis and finals)

    Sofie: 7+9+2=18

    Linkin Bridge: 4+5+3=12

    Laura Bretan: 12+11+4=27

    Clairvoyants: 8+10+5=23

    BJC: 9+11+6=26

    Tape Face: 9+7+7=23

    Viktor: 3+4+8=15

    Jon: 7+8+9=24

    Grace: 12+9+10=31

Grace has been clearly favored by NBC and the judges plus the USA Today had a half page article about her today.  We'll find out tomorrow if America agrees.  Watching her performance tonight, I turned on the closed captioning and that helped to figure out exactly what the words were she was singing.

  15. Richard Mason: http://www.j-archive.com/showplayer.php?player_id=3365&highlight=richard+mason

would have been the returning champ and he expected to be back to start the season.  When it was close to taping time and he had not heard anything he contacted the proper people at the show and found out he was not being invited back.

Before Ken Jennings was put in place to begin the season someone else was asked and that person declined as a form of protest against the shoddy treatment given to Richard Mason.
