To be fair, Harris seems like a lost cause at this point. She almost married a weirdo and was kinda happy that some even worse guy got her pregnant.

Thats true, but she is still young in the show right? My early 20s I effed up big time more than once. But I turned it around as i got older....I hope her character has that arc. Early 20s is too young to give into 'my life is garbage' mentality. And I find the actor 10x more interesting than Mark's actor.

It's not a community college. It's supposed to be a regular state college or university (which makes it even dumber, I know). If you recall, back when Darlene was scrambling for a way to pay for Mark's college, we were all yelling about how he could just go to community college for a couple of years and get some required courses out of the way while living at home. But no, Darlene insisted community college wasn't good enough for Mark and he simply had to have to full benefit of the real college experience. Including living in the dorms.

agreed. the whole storylines are centering on Darlene making stupid decisions for her and Mark and Harris. Yay lets get Mark thru a 4 year college, but ignore poor Harris who seems dead-ended and headed towards a cr*ppy future. And now ADHD on top of the rest of the garbage.  The show is slowly losing me wanting to watch it.

  3. GR was really laying into the kids - tho to be fair they were screwing up.  I wonder if Miles brought out 8 (or 11?) filets because he was trying to get ahead of the game? And to be fair I think he could've just popped them back in the oven to keep warm.

Poor Grayson taking it to heart on failing the team. Its fine to accept blame but man he seemed on the verge of tears. I was kinda proud of him using a meat thermometer - he probably doesnt have experience with touching the meat to see if its done.

Agreed Remy has to be SO dramatic. She has been coached how to act for the camera. Overact.

They really overlooked Layla this episode except when GR was admonishing her for running around.

  4. first time watching this show, as i'm desperate to get away from all the super bowl pre coverage. so far Blais is not annoying me which is nice, as he usually says something so arrogant in early shows he puts me right off.

awww Brittany, yeah if the shrimp is pre cooked toss it in right at the end, otherwise yep rock hard so quickly. or broth as they suggested, that would soften things up some.

is 20 minutes fast for a hollandaise? i've never made one.

i thought the salmon fritter was a clever idea. tho question, what is the diff between a fritter and a cake? i have had salmon cakes before and they looked very similar.

it was killing me trying to remember who Gabi reminds me off. she is a copy of 'Amy Santiago' from Brooklyn 99!!

  5. I liked the Harris taking over storyline, I hope she makes the place a success.

Nick Offerman's deadpans to the camera I did like, tho I miss the moustache. He looks quite different without it IMO.

Darlene's getting defensive at Dan was out of character I feel. The old Darlene would have taken the accolades and pointed them out to her old friend.

I wonder if DJ will be returning?

I don't know where they are going to take the Jackie storyline.

What? I read the link and it says they applied to be on the show, sold the restaurant in the meantime, then went ahead with the taping. And the producers apparently were aware.

So the whole episode was a sham. I'm not naive about "reality" tv, but c'mon Gordon, that's not cool.

that is so bogus if they did that. help a real restaurant, not this drama fodder.

When they were all walking around those weird ledges to get their Detour clue, some team passed by a dog right on the edge of one and I was like "Careful Doggie!"

me as well. MIND THAT LEDGE i was screaming in my head, tho i think animals have better edge sense than we humans.

Jeff addressed this in "On Fire" podcast. He said when they put food out--sandwiches, fish, whatever--when it's time to actually eat, they give them fresh food, not the food that's been sitting out. Always.

well that is no fun...put out the old food and let them decide if they are smart enough to eat it or not. ummmm show is called 'survivor',  so this is just another minor task to solve. feed your hunger, risk the food poisoning.

They've been showing these "extended previews" of the Amazing Race during Survivor all season. Seems to be a trend across all of reality tv lately, to show a more or less complete scene (still with a cliffhanger of course) instead of just snippets. It's annoying lol.

Ah makes sense. I am used to the teasers, but yeah they dropped right into the roadblock with what looked to me like spoilery footage. they need to stop that.

  10. Ok bizarre...our local station cut out of Survivor before the TC, and jumped into Amazing Race which had already started. The listing says Survivor should have gone til 830, but near as I can tell they cut over at like 805????  wth

nvm Surv is still on. i dunno why they were showing parts of Amazing during the commercial breaks.

I did not enjoy watching all those fish gasping for breath.

so agree. i hate fish markets, in that i just see a bunch of animals being suffocated slowly. i know most people consider fish the low end of the animal spectrum (well just the edible ones, that's a whole nuther conversation not for here), but there's humane termination and not humane in my book.

vietnam is very pretty, it'd be nice to visit. NOT the fish markets. i could spend an entire vacation visiting parks and temples.

ugh carrying mattresses, probably the most awkward thing to try to carry over distances unless they have handles on the sides. they flop too much!

V & J, awww sorry you are gone, you were such a nice couple.

rooting for the Franklin brothers now!!!

I wish they would stop with this flint stealing crap. I guess an argument could be made for having to win it, but once you've won it, you shouldn't have to give it up as a "punishment" for losing a challenge. Then again, these idiots really should be practicing how to make fire without a flint. If (in some alternate universe) I was ever cast on Survivor I would spend every moment practicing how to make fire.

wasn't boiling the water part of the earlier seasons, or am i confusing this with 'naked and afraid'?   i agree the stealing the flint is getting to be an old threat, ya wanna threaten them, say you're taking half their rice or whatever.

dang Kaleb channeling his inner Danny Ainge for hitting those ball shots from downtown, that seemed impressive (tho could be editing, but he had nice outside shot form.)

i think sean had it figured out he was going one way or other, so just to remain in control of his own destiny he volunteered himself up.

emily still a weird wildcard after the switchup.

sifu if you mention being zen master one more time, i am gonna kick you in the shin. we get it, you are the calm king of being spiritual, no one is disputing you. somehow i think a genuine zen master would never feel the need to brag about it so much.

  13. yeah this seem like the low end for an episode, almost like its contrived.  and hi, what sorta content do those nincompoop brothers do to rack up 3.5 million subscribers? is the younger generation just absolutely starved for any entertainment, cuz those two seemed like low end jersey types. and i do like jersey people but these two are not shining examples of jersey quality from what i can see.

  14. Yes today's lesson...look for the older travel agents, they apparently know more tricks of the trade!! I wonder what the magic was he used...probably better contacts maybe?

Good episode. OMG I could not deal with all the sleep deprivation.

The fruit challenge was such a traffic nightmare,  I wonder how many collisions occur on the water.

I don't think you write on rice paper, it is strictly a food. Paper is just an descriptor for how thin it is.

Ugh that vinyl challenge...reminds me back when I was a kiddo, trying to attach  decals exactly right on the models I assembled.

Note to self...always go thru all the piles to see if an earlier time is mixed in, DON'T ASSUME.

I think it was the water-logged jeans that began Brandon’s downfall.  Trying to climb a ship’s ladder out of the water while weighing more than when he dove in was never going to be easy.  I imagine it was difficult to even bend his knees to get from rung to rung.

while i get this, you HAVE TO prepare for this show. you see all these preppers for naked and afraid, they have figured it out. get ready for the environment you are about to face. if its physical, get your upper body into shape at least. if its mental, get your mindset straight on how to tackle those mental obstacles - overcoming pain, or persistance, and even just the down right condemning of you from your other contestants. you cant come into this competition just friggin oblivious and la de da, which i where i see Brandon now. helping others feel better, ok ya that is a skill, but in terms of survival there are more skills more needed.

  16. Good start to this season, hurray.

Like all the teams so far, no one is rubbing me the wrong way (ya massage pun there!)

I liked Elizabeth and Iliana, the mother (Elizabeth) reminds me of me esp on the 'i can't just sit around and wait' thoughts. That would drive me crazy if I'm not progressing forward most of the time.

Yeah the sword thing - I would give up after 3-4 tries, realizing it just isn't going to happen. Learn when to give up and try the other challenge, time is against you.

I got the word puzzle the second someone mentioned 'of'. Mind you I have been playing Scrabble for many years so used to rearranging letters to make words, and also 'City of Angels' is a fave tune of mine by Natalie Merchant.  So very familiar.

Greg and John I think are going to be tough serious competition.

I like the sisters' (Morgan and Lena) vibe - they might bicker (I can see that coming), but seems they really have each others' backs.

Joe and Ian, at least one blowup in their future. It just always seems to happen.

All the other teams - super likeable, nothing negative thus far.

I had to look up Patagonia as I am not familiar - an unusual choice, but seems like a rather interesting place to see, not your usual touristy destination. Fun fact: Sylvester Stallone owns land there.

We got a guy with an alter ego. Okay, then. I don't think lanky guys should have alter egos.

I'm sure there are a few bright spots, but I don't think we'll match the S44 cast. Right now, I see Survivor as a ninety-minute prelude to The Amazing Race.

I thought the same thing about the Amazing Race - once I saw the promo during Survivor I suddenly got a lot happier. (And in watching it, it did not disappoint.)

I had forgotten about alter ego tall guy - what the heck is that all about? Have you convinced yourself you are a comic book superhero?? Jeez louise my young man, be a well rounded ONE personality - all I see coming of claiming two personailities is you are going to BLAME whichever personality when you fail.

There is calling things as you see them, and there is instigating. I feel Emily steps over the line into deliberate instigation in the choices of things she says.  This makes me wonder if she had a somewhat sheltered upbringing and her social game is just very amateur?
