Back to my theory about Abby, not only do I think she did it to drive Jess away from her family but I also tend to think that maybe she told her mom or Christy found out some way..., therefore Christy knew and wanted to protect her daughter from getting caught so she has felt guilty knowing that Abby is the killer... wants to protect her daughter... but also knows Ben didn't do it, thus paying for his lawyer. I need to stop drinking.

I believe this episode reveals that Abby the youngest daughter is the killer. She asks Cornell if Jess is going to leave, meaning she hopes she does so that her family can possibly stay together without Jess always being around and causing a distraction. She killed Tom hoping to get rid of Jess because her parents were fighting about the affair.
