I do wonder about these shows that go on way too long and whose main plot point is "will they or won't they."  That has to get so boring for actors.  And particularly for the actors who play the role not of the main character, but of the main character's love interest(s).  Elizabeth occasionally has something else to do, but Nathan and Lucas exist solely to be her options.  And Kevin McGarry, like Daniel Lissing before him, isn't a young man anymore.  He's spent the better part of a decade on this show, he's been on it for even longer than Dan was at this point.  I don't blame him for getting a little antsy, if that's what's happening.

I'm also salty on this point because it's happened to another show I really enjoyed, Miss Scarlet and the Duke, which is now just "Miss Scarlet."  The Duke didn't die, but he did decide to move on after four years of being her sidekick.  And it sucks, because the OTP was literally in the name.  But showrunners just don't know when to quit, or at least give love interests an identity beyond, well, love interest.

I’ve tapped out of WCtH because of Elizabeth dumping Lucas, but I still read the comments here on the far, far, far remote chance that the show will improve. So much has gone on in the world at the time the show is set and the writers didn’t need to just keep focusing on love interests. Heck, even Anne Shirley and her family went through WWI in the books.

I agree with you re Miss Scarlet too.

My “good grief” wasn’t because I disagreed but because we were making these early 90’s references and being senior citizens and then you came in with your “I see your appropriate dancer references and raise you an I-grew-up-watching-AMC-when-it-was-all-silver-screen-movies and Jojo’s mugging is exactly like Andy Freaking Hardy” and now I can’t unsee it.

I guess I'm hate watching. I fast forwarded through everything but the group dance in the beginning, the two groups performing, the announcement of who the bottom four were, their individual performances, and the elimination. I don't really know or care about any of the contestants. I'd already read who was eliminated before watching and it wasn't much of a spoiler. I knew who Roman was but still had no clue who was Braylen and who was Jaylen. The good news is when you fast forward like that #1 you don't have to listen to the fake judging commentary, #1a especially Jojo, #2 you don't have to suffer through the Big Brother (Big Dancer?) house nonsense, and #3 you can knock out the entire show in about 15 minutes.

I agree with all of this; it’s how I’ve been watching as well. All that house stuff is nonsense. They could have had a proper Top 20 with all the time they’re wasting on Dancers Thinking Other Dancers are Cute, or Dancers Choosing Bedrooms, or Dancers Having Breakfast. Also, what a waste of a perfectly good Cat Deeley!

Roman's solo where he would stop and pander to the audience reminded me of Elvis Stojko's show pieces.  An odd connection.

I mean, since we’re showing how elderly we are, I see your Elvis Stojko and raise you a Shirtless Phillipe Candeloro Sinking to His Knees.

I've finally figured out who JoJo reminds me of: Andy Hardy!! (Movie series from the 40s.)

Good grief, you are killing me. Honestly, Jojo doesn’t remind me of anyone except a desperate attention-seeker who really, really wants to fit in with the cool kids. Maybe like the little scrappy dog on Looney Tunes who hangs out with the bulldog? Or Scrappy Doo!

I liked the first broadway number with the sailors - at least I understood the story without the explanation. I felt like the Cabaret one was messy and just wanted it to be over.

Minority opinion here but I’m okay with Jaylin. I thought his energy suited the number and he actually seems to be dancing well. I’m okay with him being safe.

But didn’t they start with 20 dancers?   And when they got down to ten, they switched to individual eliminations?

I’m pretty sure it was always double eliminations (one male and one female) all the way through; they had to keep the numbers even because of the duets. The dances were always male-female duets until the top 4, when they did three duets and a group number. What changed at top 10 was instead of being partnered with the same person they had new partners every week.

To those who hate the judges actually judging who leaves, I remember years past when the folks on the forum would blast the people at home for making it a popularity contest and trying to game the voting system for whoever struck the tweens fancy rather than who was best. I guess you can't please everyone.

I do hate how truncated the season is with two being eliminated at a time. BOOO!

I can't get too worked up about the bottom 4 as the judges saw a lot more of the actual rehearsal/filming than we did and that seems to be playing into the assessment, not just the final product. Of those, I agreed with judges as to who was cut. But I'm not feeling the new "real world" format.

Wasn’t the original format two eliminations at a time? It was one male and one female dancer back then, with the remaining two bottom-four dancers partnering up either with each other or with the former partners of the eliminated dancers.

  7. I’m so happy to see Phillip Chbeeb. I actually think Jaylin could benefit from working with him; Phillip was that hiphop guy who really grew into contemporary.

On the other hand, I could not possibly care less about watching the dancers hang out in the house. Nor can I take another second of Jojo Freaking Siwa.

  8. I agree. I’m bored with Audrey, and her competitive relationship with Mary makes them both look awful. Last week’s unsanctioned baptism/christening should have been enough for both of them to get cut off, and this week is no better.

I have especially missed Missy and George’s relationship. Sometimes it felt like their moments were the true heart of the show.

The Mandy/Georgie spinoff just holds no interest for me whatsoever. It’s a storyline that should have been one-and-done, and it’s especially not something to look forward to if it means more of Awful Audrey. If I want to watch a sitcom featuring mothers being horrible to their daughters (I don’t), Golden Girls is on Hallmark almost every night.

    Omg favorite episode so far!

    Same!

I re-watched the “vanilla envelope” scene half a dozen times before I continued the episode. Glinda/Josiah’s exasperation cracked me up!

She was a patrol cop, how did she get a month leave of absence with no documentation?

If she put in for FMLA she wouldn’t need to disclose the medical reason. The form doesn’t require the doctor’s diagnosis - just “patient needs X amount of time off” and that’s it. And yes, FMLA was a thing in 1995 - the law was passed in 1993.

  12. I knew they’d have to say something about tWitch but even when it happened I was unprepared. That hit me hard and I ended up crying as if I’d actually known him. That surprised me.

I liked that the judges were trying to offer actual critiques rather than just cheerleading.

I wonder if Colter has health insurance, though/

Even if he doesn’t have health insurance they wouldn’t bill up front, would they? They’d have to know what they’re treating, how many stitches, what (if any) pain meds, etc. You don’t just walk up to the counter, say “I’ve been stabbed,” and they say “it’ll cost $500.”

  14. I have never paid for medical care up front except for my co-pay. I get treated, then if there’s an extra charge I either pay before I leave or I get billed later. I didn’t think it was weird at all that he walked out of the exam room like that - pausing at the reception desk on his way out would have been a pointless detail in the episode.

Yup. Does the winner of the last group win it all? Even if they were a member of the last group picked?

That really isn't fair to those who go in earlier rounds.

I agree. So one person (potentially) has to compete in 5 rounds but 3 people only do one? So dumb.

Edit: I just (sort of) watched the 2nd episode and had to skim because I cannot stand Brian Malarkey. Sigh.

  16. I’ve seen a lot of comparisons to Mos Eisley cantina for the song & dance number, but all I could think of (after “what the hell am I watching?”) was Labyrinth. “You remind me of the babe….”

I liked this episode a lot and am looking forward to Fifteen’s adventures!

  17. Claudia and Rob being in love with their dogs was the best. Also, I don’t think either of them will ever see this, but dogs have on occasion ended up in the shower with human family members in our house when time is tight. Though bathing a shih tzu in a walk-in shower with a hose attachment isn’t as efficient as it may sound: short dog + short hose = a dog that really only gets slightly damp.

  18. Well, given the work of all three tattoos for each artist, I think Bobby was the right winner, though I preferred Jon’s snake tattoo over the others.

I absolutely hated Freddie’s black & grey tattoo. Hated it sooooooo much. I get some of the judges defending the artistry (it was still awful), but I felt like it completely disregarded the fact that that poor guy has to wear  that thing. Freddie was so caught up in being An Artist that he didn’t think about whether he was creating something worth wearing. I would probably dump my partner if he came home with a tattoo like that (and yes, I’m aware that I am illustrating Bubba’s point that art should make you feel some kind of way).

I did really love Bobby’s third tattoo. It gave vintage art nouveau poster vibes and was just beautiful.

Overall I felt like it was a bland season and I probably won’t remember much of it a week from now.

  19. I’m glad Jozzy didn’t make it to the final because I don’t think she even still should have been there.

I agree that none of the finalists really stand out for me, but I guess I’m rooting for Freddie or John because Bobby’s work is my least favorite. John might have the edge over Freddie because he at least tries to meet the brief, while Freddie tends to throw up his hands and toss a pixellated heart into a traditional Japanese tattoo since “it’s a FREDDIE tattoo.”

The more I watch this show, the more I really dislike the main character.  I’ll finish out this season but I doubt I’ll be tuning in for season 2.

I tapped out after the third episode but I’ve been following the forums to see if it’s worth going back. It’s going to depend on what happens with “Sir” because if he’s really there in the basement and not a figment of her imagination, I just don’t see a way around this for her.
