  1. I think most people in Canada are very well-informed about the Ivy League universities.  Our pop culture is like 80% American or at least that's how I felt growing up.  So if you've seen Frasier, Gilmore Girls, whatever, so have millions of Canadians.  And you know how often television shows and movies would mention the Ivy League.

I always just refer to that time of my life as "college" too (even though Canadians refer to some colleges as universities) as a way of sounding less pretentious.  In casual conversation no one needs to know where I went.

Can anyone help explain to me where/how the "Cupcake" nickname came about?

  2. Hopefully Ian will get a kiss this season. I think he's the one who went to Princeton. Maybe you've heard of it lol.

It's like Frasier Crane always mentioning Harvard, or Andy Bernard always mentioning Cornell.

  3. I agree that Britt is exceptionally stunning.  It's so rare that a non-white contestant has a chance to be the lead on this show and unfortunately I missed out seeing that.  She is Cherokee Indian, Swedish, and Hungarian.    She got me interested in my first ever experience with the show.

In my opinion, the entire thing with Kupa is that he had ZERO. INTEREST. in Kaitlynn from the start.  He wanted Britt (?) (I forget) or he wanted neither of them.  Once Britt left and he found out that he might be stuck with this he got uncomfortable.  He spoke to Kaitlynn directly and said a bunch of passive aggressive bullshit to basically bully her into admitting she doesn't like him.

Now, I actually believe Kaitlynn and find her genuine (didn't see last season) so I believed her when she said she was shocked by this.  Then when Kaitlynn directly called him out for all of this attitude, Kupa was shocked things weren't going as planned and tried to backtrack and basically, again bully her the other way.  He has a lot of pride.  I.e. , no there's no way I'm letting you push me off this show, that's going to be MY choice.

    That's my interpretation.

Speaking of Kupah, has a black guy or woman ever gotten any kissing action in the history of this franchise?

Well it seems like Kaitlynn is connecting with Ian and I assumed he was half-black?  Maybe I'm totally wrong.

I saw an interview by Amy Schumer with the beautiful half-Chinese opera singer.  Did she ever kiss Juan Pablo or did she just diss him?  LOL.

  4. What I like about Kaitlynn is that she is so assertive.  She completely goes after and asks for what she wants and the way she handled Kupa was really cool.  Saying "NO" when she doesn't want something, and laying it all out even though it was tough :  "Can I talk to you right now?"  "I'm going to have to let you go.  I'm sorry."  And she didn't let him talk her into anything she didn't want to do.   I appreciate all of that.   Some women like me find that hard.

Kaitlyn wants 4 kids? Isn't she 29? Umm, better get on that then, party girl. At least if you don't want to spend the next half of your life taking care of Sloth from The Goonies, or whatever horrific thing happens when you have kids after the age of 35.

Wow.  I know so many people who were born from mothers over the age of 40, including my father, and old boyfriend, and a very close friend.  All incredibly wonderful intelligent people.  I'm quite sure there are millions of them walking around.

  5. I think for a lot of TV lovers out there, unfortunately for Peter Hermann he's more famous for being Mariska's husband than for being an actor.  Mariska has been a star in the prime-time network television world for 16 years.   Peter's also been an infrequent guest star on that show with her.

It was mentioned because that is what Peter is primarily known for.  Much like Hilary Duff is primarily known for being a child actor and singer, Sutton is a known Broadway star, and Debi Mazar is a 90's actor/Madonna's friend.

  6. Why couldn't he simply say that they're enjoying their time together and haven't discussed labels yet?

I don't care that Josh wouldn't call Liza his girlfriend.  My point was that I can't reconcile that attitude with simultaneously getting a tattoo dedicated to her on his body.  I disagreed with that whole thing being life smart.

A tattoo is much more permanent than a label.  That's why I don't get it.

Liza has no leg to stand on being upset with Josh's lack of commitment.  She has zero excuse not to come clean about who she is.

  7. On Josh's tattoo, I thought that was actually pretty inspired as a way to "give" Liza a tattoo on his body, but one that doesn't scream "ex-girlfriend" if they break up. Not her name, or her face, her birthday, some saying they have--just a fairly generic dragon, which fit right in with all his other tats.  He has to have seen how many people end up regretting a significant other tattoo, and what they do to get rid of or change them.  So I thought it was another sign that he's actually pretty smart, though not book smart.  He's life smart.

Seriously?  He won't even say she's his girlfriend.   Yet he's willing to mark himself permanently for her.

They've been dating for a few weeks, he knows next to nothing about her (it's all lies!).  Because of these factors, it's actually way more true that they're just hanging out rather than seriously dating.  In my opinion.  So, I still think the tattoo is incredibly stupid, and he's life stupid.  But then again I'm not a tattoo fan in general.  So I guess this is where I sound like the grandmother.

I also wish this show wasn't so aggressive about trying to gross me out all the time.

  8. I assume she doesn't want Catherine to gain weight because it would reflect badly on her, poor for her image, etc.  She's a control freak.

  9. I think Amy should change her hair.  I get that they're trying to make her severe, but her body language is TOO rigid and her hair has been the same the entire time has it not?  Whereas everyone else's goes through phases.  She's all hard angles and clenched body language and I find it unsettling.  I find it unrealistic that she's not trying to keep up with modern styles literally at all.

Sorry for that shallowness.  This was a great episode with so much densely packed in.  Last week I watched the episode and felt like I watched nothing.

Out of all the things Selina's done, I was so horrified she wouldn't let Catherine have ice cream.  That one really hit home for me.

  10. Even the biggest Russell fans, such as myself, would never claim he is good at the social game :)

I was thinking I'd like to see another All-Stars type game..... now we have Tony from Cagayan who could go up against the likes of Parvati, Kim, Yul ---  are Kim and Yul the type of people who just say no when they're asked back, or are they not just asked back?

I'm actually a huge fan of Aras from Panama -- I thought he was adorable.  He was my favourite player that season, I liked him more than Cirie and Shane even.  Unfortunately his second ride in BvW was pretty sucky.

  11. I'd like to write a bit of a defense for Samoa and Russell too, one of my top 5 favourites.

Foa Foa was incredibly impressive.  The other tribe had far larger numbers, and even a rocket scientist, but they couldn't get it together and keep an alliance strong for the life of them.  And from what I remember, they won challenge after challenge while Foa Foa lost, but because the "Foa Foa Four" kept loyal after the merge, they  remained a strong alliance from beginning to end.  Even though Russell did bully his tribe and keep them incredibly paranoid, those four remained 'loyal' from start to finish - four incredibly different people - oil company owner Russell, quiet Natalie in medical sales, the doctor Mitch, and law student (?) Jaison.  Russell and the Foa Foa also somehow did a great job of keeping the 'other alliance' fractured and trying to win members of the Foa Foa over.  By the end of the season, those 4 seemed so emotionally and physically demolished, but they stuck it out and won the game in the end.  I think that is a rare sight to see in Survivor.

"Love him or hate him" I heard so much about Russell before I even saw his season and the season did not disappoint.  I know his methods are not popular, but I absolutely love to watch him - not only as a character but as a player of the game.  He was so great at so many aspects of the game - forming an alliance, keeping it strong, keeping it loyal, and knocking out huge competitors.  Finding and using immunity idols.    He was so good up until the end.  His 'fatal flaw' (talk about Shakespearean) his complete lack of social game lost it for him in the end.  I think the whole thing is fascinating, and the tale of Foa Foa practically cinematic.  I know a lot of people hate Russell but he kept his word with Natalie right until the end of the game - to his detriment.

In the same way I found Rodney so entertaining this season - it's not that I think I'd be friends with Rodney and Russell in real life, or something - it's that I find them so entertaining to watch on screen, as characters - and that's all I want from television.

  12. Cook Islands (gave me Ozzy, the Aitu 4 underdogs triumphing, the whole race-divided tribes not being a cheesy gimmick that backfired, Billy thinking Candice actually fell in love with him out there, the challenges-probably one of my favorite seasons for challenges, Cao Boi, the surprise double vote at TC that sent Jenny packing, and the fire making challenge between Becky and Sundra).

The water challenge between Aitu and Raro where all of the members of each tribe had to cross the water and then all fit onto the wooden plank.  This remains one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen on television.

Raro trying again and again to climb the plank and then all falling off at once -- I think someone at TWOP coined the phrase "Something something of tumbling Raros..."  hahaha!

And then everyone on Aitu doing everything slowly but steadily, all helping each other while doing so (Penner, Candice, Jessica, Becky, Yul, Ozzy, Sundra, and Cao Boi.)  Everyone puts their arms around everyone else and tries to hold on, Penner is coaching, Sundra climbs up, Ozzy wraps his arm around Sundra while cautiously looking over at Raro's progress, Yul climbs up, and tries to lift Cao Boi up too I believe.  Then Cao Boi FALLS into the water, then Yul tries to lift him up again.  At the very last second, Yul and Cao Boi each lift one of their feet in the air in a timed, calculated manner, and Aitu wins!

    It's absolutely spectacular.

I saw it for the first time last summer and at that point, there was a YouTube of it, but can't find it now.

I could get into how hard I fell for Ozzy during that season but it would be so embarrassing.  One of the coolest seasons for sure.

  13. I'm puzzled as to how Shane didn't make it over Terry, who I think is a similar archetype to Savage, yet the latter two made it on the show.

People commenting on Shane's tweets say that Jeff Probst and Savage are actually good friends.  Is that right?

    God, Terry is the worst.

    Another Shane tweet:

    Shane Powers @Theshanepowers  ·  May 21

Bedtime. Pretty sure I got hosed cause I've busted @JeffProbst balls over the years and he seems to be petty. We'll never know. Goodnight.

  14. So the woman was simply trying to sabotage Liza and Josh by lying to Liza about him being dumb right?  At least that's how I took it.

I understand why I don't find Josh attractive.  His nose is so perfectly thin and straight, it looks plastic, or like a ski slope.  I find it disturbing.

I'm a big reader, but in my experience with men I've found it much more rare finding men that read a lot versus men that don't.  I don't care.  I can still be attracted and want to be in a relationship with them.

Dodgeball is terrible and can be used as a form of bullying.  I don’t see what skills it teaches kids unlike other organized sports.

What a cool point.  I've never been able to articulate that before.

  15. Fiji is one of my favourite seasons ever, like in the top 5-7 seasons of all time.  Because it happened right after Cook, it is or almost is, as multiracial as Cook, and I feel like no seasons have been as multiracial ever since.  Lots of black, Asian, and Latino cast members.  Only Seasons 13 and 14 have that quality.  I absolutely loved the cast of characters.  The "Edgardo blindside" was hyped on TWOP everywhere and for years before I got to see it, so I'm surprised to see Fiji talked about so poorly here.  I even loved Dreamz up until the car issue.  Dreamz was absolutely hilarious.

    Also Good About Fiji

    - interesting haves versus have nots twist

    - Rocky for comic relief maybe

    - Yao Man and the fake idol, and just everything he said or did, very unique contestant

    - Dreamz - almost everything the guy said or did made me hysterical, an actual homeless contestant on Survivor is so genius --- a cast member who actually PREFERS the conditions of Survivor to his real life, with a "Wow, this is great!" attitude.   He's also a hustler for life, and unfortunately, Yao Man got hustled.

    - Michelle

    - Earl

    - Boo for hotness

    - the infamous Edgardo blindside

I'll never forget a moment of the Have-nots waking up one morning.  They were just sprawled all over the ground with scarves covering their faces.  It was funny yet chilling.  They looked like corpses.

If it helps for context, my favourites are Borneo 1, Cook 13, Fiji 14, Samoa/Russell 19, and Cagayan 28.   There's a few others I like I guess, but those are the top 5.

  16. Greg Buis and/or Colleen would be amazing.  That would make the show legendary forever in my mind, not sure how to top that.

  17. And Malcolm was Dollar Store Ozzy....... Ozzy may not be the prettiest but he was the Original Flavour/Gangster in my opinion.... cannot be beat.  Even Woo is like a different version of him...

Sucks for Carolyn; she lost in the votes twice tonight.  Maybe Survivor fans/audiences just really didn't like her and couldn't warm up to her.

  18. I think Andrew Savage was legitimately hurt when Jeff referred to him as "old" or "Older".

Shane has to be the #1 choice for the Second Second Chance :(  This is a sad one.  I don't know how I got so lucky with all of my other choices, so Shane really stings because he's the only one that got missed somehow!

It's really bad karma to wish that somebody has to drop out so that Shane can replace him or her right?  Damn, we even got Mike dropping out for this!  Why do the genders even have to be even?  Are they always?

  19. Jeff Probst, closing statement:

Thank you for you for your loyalty even when you don't like everybody.  See you in the fall.

    The tagline of the season.

It's sad how invested he is and has to be in this show.

I'm really irritated that Terry made it over Shane.

DAMN YOU TERRY!!!!!!!  That wasn't part of our deal Blackheart!  That wasn't PPAAAAAARRTT!!!!!

  20. The voting went almost EXACTLY how I wanted it!

But take out Shirin and bring in Shane :( :( :(   Shane was one of the most unique contestants this game ever had.  There was literally no one like him in 30 seasons.  That's so sad.  I'm very, very sad about that.

But boy am I lucky in all the other ways.  I don't care about Ciara and kind of hate Terry, but all the other ones, wow.  Wow.

Jeremy is IN -- Not Out.

  21. Omg, Rodney!  My favourite contestant from the season!  Happy Birthday Bro!!!!!!!!!   Why can't he get a Second Chance vote instead of Max?

Jeff is bringing Rodney's poor birthday.  Damn, Will got off easy compared to Dan.  He must have really pissed them off attacking the editing and the show.

Yeah, I think that nails it.  Jeff is really upset about Dan's trash-talking of the show and I can't blame Jeff for that.

Will's Wife... whoa... that was super interesting.  And Will kind of asking her to back off.    I didn't read any of Will's interviews , but maybe he's been positive outside of the Shirin attack and that got him more in favour with Jeff.

Got to say was very impressed with Jeff pulling out the raw footage wow that's harsh! But absolutely awesome!

So surreal, even though it was the opposite of surreal, it was real!  We never get to see this!
