Wrexham is playing in the 4th round for the FA Cup on Saturday 10/15, it’s going to be on ESPN+ ESPN 2(!!!) at 7:30am Eastern, for anyone on this side of the pond. No word on it being shown elsewhere yet.

This is something I was wondering, that £1.1 million = $1.34 million is a staggering number. I do think Ryan and Rob are committed to the team, but that’s a lot of change to lose. Their families are currently supportive, how long does that actually last? I really did enjoy this episode, the retroactive red card ruling to Mullin is something I didn’t know existed. I grew up with both my sisters playing soccer so I’ve been familiar with the game, but that rule was a first for me. The parents at my 9 year old niece’s soccer games are talking about the show so it’s really gaining steam in popularity here.

For anyone interested YouTube has Ryan and Rob’s address to the club trust about buying the club. It’s about 50 minutes and a very interesting watch. They are very serious about where they want to take the club.

The Stranger Things Wishlist: What We Want To Happen
ilovethedark replied to Last Time Lord's topic in Stranger Things
It’s so cliche, but I want Brenner to see El and Hopper’s reunion with her calling Hopper “Dad” to put the stupid “Poppa” with Brenner to bed. Hopper is her dad, not Brenner. -
For some reason I remembered a book I read in 6th/7th grade in mid-90’s about a high school girl whose sister ran away from home. She had a younger brother who was a “goody-goody”. Her mom was seeing psychics to find older sister and dad was a workaholic. There was a scene of the main character trying a White Russian and her freaking out when an older boy wanted to have sex at a party. She lied to her parents about going to the party. Somehow they find out her mom slaps her and calls her deceitful. Main character decides to runaway as well. She goes to the beach with some friends before checking out. Mom “knows” main character is planning on doing something and follows main character to beach. Main character gets caught in rip tide and mom saves her. At the end of book big sister sent a letter saying running away sucks. Does anyone remember this one? I can’t find it on Goodreads. I went to public school so I don’t think this would be a religious book. I don’t remember a lot of religious stuff in it, but I read this almost 20 years ago.

The soundtrack is on Spotify, the choir singing Vichnaya Pamyat almost had me in tears at work. The “Bridge of Death” track is probably my favorite musical theme from the series.

This was an incredible mini series. I really liked how there was the moment of real life in Pripyat with the pool and everyone in town. Those poor people. The sad update about the people on the bridge and how none survived. The trial was interesting, I only know of Soviet style trials from reading Animal Farm in 12th grade, with some false “evidence” and witnesses. Everything that was presented was pretty much a solid fact. I wonder if the moment the solider moved the mike closer to Legasov came from recordings, that was such an odd moment. I hope all the actors qualify for an ensemble Emmy/BAFTA.

If anyone is interested The Guardian had an extract from Voices of Chernobyl it’s from 2005 and spoilery but very fascinating with the different perspectives.

So that was full of nightmare fuel, with the Geiger counter at the beginning in the flooded basement and the poor plant workers and firefighter at the end basically melting away from the radiation. Utterly devastating. The head miner provided a tiny bit of levity to this episode. I loved the part where all the miners patted the spotless suit of the Minister of Coal. This whole series has been so gripping. I wonder how this is being received in Ukraine and Russia.

Basically the creators wanted the actors to focus on acting and not worrying about doing an accent. Also when they were doing auditions people doing accents were a bit too much like Boris and Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Another really enjoyable episode. Lyudmilla, the wife of the firefighter was such a badass going past the soldiers at the hospital. She is my favorite of the regular folk on the ground. The podcast said she’s a real person and that she wrote a chapter in the book Voices of Chernobyl. The part where she is in the hospital and sees her friends who took their baby to watch the fire and they all had radiation burns/sickness and the man begging that she take the baby was heart wrenching. Same. My 14 year old lab was snoring on the couch as I watched this and I found this incredibly sad. I think someone tried to bring their cat on the bus, but a soldier took it. I saw the dead dear earlier in the episode and the bird from the first, so many animals suffered as well.

Does anyone know if that emergency call/dispatch recording was from the actual accident or a recreation? That was such a nice touch either way. The scene within the bunker where one of the local party members (guy in green poncho/jacket) is like this is bad and we need to tell the public and the old senior party member started talking about Lenin. I hope that guy in the green jacket turns out okay since it was nice seeing some dissent amongst the leaders. I agree looking back it is very much a CYA on the denials. I know just a little about the accident since I was a baby when it happened so I’m interested in seeing how all this plays out. I might wait until I can watch during the day since the first episode gave me creepy dreams.

I already like the blonde firefighter’s wife, her instincts are so on point with knowing something is up when no information is being let out yet. The kids and that baby being out in the radioactive ash while the adults watched the plant burn was chilling. It’s like people gathering around to watch a house fire making small chitchat while breathing in massive amounts of radiation. I hope for the best for her since her poor husband had to go into the reactor to fight the fire and no good will come of that. The plant manager and director are truly terrible, I know there is some cultural aspects of being in the USSR and whatever party line they had to believe/vomit back in order to get where they were, but damn people’s skins are falling off and are dying and the managers still had the gall to say nope we don’t believe those test readings even though the chief scientist did them a couple times and the figures were too high. I felt so bad for everyone else at the plant since they knew something horrible happened and the guy in charge will do nothing.

China Rich Girlfriend. I liked Crazy Rich Asians well enough, but Nick’s mom Eleanor continues to be insufferable in the worst way and her parts are such slogs to get through. Eleanor doesn’t like Rachel since she’s not stupid rich but then suddenly she is but not really. Then there was the stupid car accident sub plot. I got to the point where I found everyone to be totally clueless or total assholes and it wasn’t fun anymore. It’s a bit like the Queen of Babble books, the first one is fun but each following book is just a retread of the first and you’re wondering way these people continue to make the same mistakes from the previous book.

I want to like this show. But there are no stakes. When Will and his stupid radio put everyone in the caves at risk, I knew no one was going to die, even the redshirts. The scene was dark and maybe I missed something, but there was no mourning once the group got out of the cave. The cheering outside the mouth of the cave was a bit puzzling as that creature was supposed to be the top of the food chain and I’d expect it to go out to feed. Penny continues to be my favorite, snarky “I never said it was a good theory” at the beginning and the bit in front of the restricted door with Will. I don’t dig teenagers and their plots, but she’s one of the most enjoyable characters on the show. She and Don are the only ones with any humor. I want to know more about the jump in technology flashback. It seemed to me the government knew that meteor was coming and were all too happy to let it happen and evacuate the “highly qualified” off planet. I’d rather see that than mining for space poop fuel and people who aren’t going to die “hiding” from the bat things.
