  1. Favorite sketch: "Next Week In Review" from the Steve Martin/Blues Brothers show in 1978. Not only does Steve Martin get an epic punch line to set up, but his character's name is "Cocuwa", which he claims is Hawaiian for "To help without compensation", actually a description for the word "kokua". So he gets a laugh for an accurate Hawaiian word definition!

  2. Would totally listen to a podcast where David T. Cole figures out the logistics and economics of living forever under different scenarios. Singularity! Brain transplants! Vampires! Cyborgs! You could call it "Spend An Eternity with David T. Cole".

  3. Favorite moments:

    • when Les Nessman caught his first fly ball ever at the baseball game between WKRP and WPIG ("those SWINE")
    • when Venus and Johnny are taking an on-air sobriety test, and Johnny's reflexes improve with every drink. That episode ends with an amazing scene with the officer administering the test taking a huge pull from the bottle of booze they've been drinking, as Venus (in a funny hat) watches him and Johnny bellows into the mike, "LIGHT MY FIIIRE"
    • The robbery of the electronics store that WKRP is doing a live remote from (and the police only show up when the station calls them, because of course nobody else is listening)
    • the ghost story at the very end of the episode where Jennifer moves to a house in the suburbs

  4. Co-sign on Sarah's hatred for the Kars4Kids commercial. My wife and I vastly improved the song by rewriting the lyrics to appeal to dogs. Ahem..

    "1-8-7-7 Eat the Squirrel,

Om nom nom nom, Eat the Squirrel!

    1-8-7-7 Eat the Squirrel,

    Eat the Squirrel today!"

  5. Nick's idea for "Acting with the Stars" reminded me of this weird game show from 1975 called "Don Adams' Screen Test". In the show, a contestant would be asked to re-enact a well-known scene from a movie, and there were celebrity guest stars who would appear in the scene with the contestant. Apparently the show hasn't been rebroadcast since it first aired, so who knows how it holds up today, but I direct you to the Wikipedia article on the show to see Don Adams' photo, which is truly the 70s-iest thing you will see today.

  7. Extremely annoyed to come here & find that this discussion did not have someone interjecting "WHO WILL FIGHT ME?" between every post.

    Related: WHO WILL FIGHT ME?

  8. Ha! I figured that Trip's intro ("Tiny paper strewn about") would be an actual cryptic crossword clue, but it took me a while before I figured out what the answer was.
