  1. Phillip sounded almost emotional his only "real friend" MAYBE being used as asset he sounded genuinely concerned. E like your nuts, that nuts. He the emeny. What ever makes him weaker and us stronger. Is great for us. She also sounded jealous Phillip had a "real friend".

Phillip said a lot that would make Stan be precut for a KGB honey trip.  But what is the type that Stan would go for?  Tall, busty and athletic?    I don't understand how Stan type factors into the KGB plans.   What is stan type?  Pulse and breathing would be my guess.

  2. Mischa going back to the USSR?   They will send him to the Gulag, rehabilitation camps, and/or back to the mental hospital for sure.

Gaberial knows this.  I get the feeling gaberial is Stashing mischa at the local new KGB safe house we heard about earlier this season.

It is interesting that Philip suspects Renee of something after two brief encounters with her (the gym meet-up and the dinner date). Hopefully Stan isn't sharing the pillow talk from the preview with Philip. Her "can't you just be vague" comment isn't even subtle. If she is a spy, she isn't a very good at her job. Have we been told what her (faux) job is?

Stan may have problems. But he is a pro. He never told his ex-wife about his undercover operation. Which was very out of the ordinary according to his FBI bosses.

Its a long term operation to get close to Stan. That stuff takes times.

Philip "downloaded" Arpanet in the episode Arpanet

I think she does. That's why the Jennings split up in the first season.

I though E was just mad in general about him seeing her.  I don't remember Phillip telling her that.  I will go back and watch that again. All it took for them to get back together was E taking a near fatal FBI bullet.  Hopefully, it will take less for mischa jr to be accepted by E.

I wonder if Henry has been caught in an early version of hacking-changing a friend's grade, or stealing the history exam...and the smarts of it have the teacher stopping it with a parent meeting- encourage instead of punish? It Was common in the 80's among most computer illiterate folks to over emphasize how smart it is to hack the basic systems.

Too early for any of that computer wise. I bet he was drawing cartoon that made the teacher look bad.   Or something like that.

I feel granny going to get the Hans treatment from E very soon.  All over mischa junior.

I think the KGB would have anticipated this possibility and given Philip and Elizabeth credentials that check out on more than just a cursory level. I don't think discovering that they're illegals would be easy, even for the FBI.

For illegals.  The KGB had a whole department.  How only job was to make sure all the paperwork was right. There American cover story was 100% solid.  It could past any test. How you think William got his job at super secret lab after his background check.

An an intense background check means going from birth to current when P&E.  when no one remembers going to school with them from K-12.   the jig would be up.

But it's not really a theory, is it? They're two characters on the same show who've never been anywhere near each other. (People used to say Kimmie would wind up going to Pastor Tim's church and meet Paige, who was the same age.) There's no reason to think they're interacting now. I mean, they could run into each other, but Henry could just as easily run into Pasha or Tuan or Charles Deluth.

    Who Charles Delith?

KAC I would only add "luxurious"

Very many thanks. That so cool.  That idea just popped into my mind.   So I wrote it down.  Love his comment back.

E is so on target when she tells Paige to stop spying. Paige does not yet have the "confidence" that E mentioned. She can't talk her way out of her nervousness. Look how she acts around Matthew. They spent a whole meal at a burger joint with Mathew asking "what's wrong with you" in every way possible. She can't hide it.

It reminds me of a story about Gary Gilmore (Google or Bing). He started his criminal life by walking into convenience stores and walking out with a case of beer. He did it for years over and over. When asked how he got by with it he said, "You just walk in, go to the beer, take it from the cooler and walk out. No eye contact. Clerks don't believe their eyes and when they realize what happened, you're gone." He was brazen. That's what Paige isn't. She can't look "not suspicious". E and P can.

That odd. I don't see how a death room murder and paige have in common.  I seen nothing that shows me that Paige can turn into a cold blooded murder.   I do hope Paige does not turn out to a cold blooded murder.  I mean mom and dad kill left and right. But it has a purpose.  It not random and it's not for fun.  It's not who you kill. It's why you kill them.

I kept waiting for the lightbulb moment in that kitchen scene where Paige would realize that her mom is seducing the scientist. It stretches credibility for me a little that she hasn't figured this out yet; does she really think they just become friends with all these people?

There were about three different points in this episode where you could see Phillip stuffing the words he clearly wanted to say back down his throat. He doesn't want them to have to honey trap anymore; it bothers him more than it used to. His effort with the Topeka woman was not his best work.

Gabriel knows it, too. He basically dared them to come out and say that they don't want to fuck other people anymore. Such an uncomfortable stare down.

I'm kind of surprised to see the Centre overloading them again after already driving them to the brink once before. They're going to burn out their top agents, and all that travel has them gone from home way more than they should be. It makes little strategic sense. Surely there are some other attractive young agents that could handle this without having to fly back and forth multiple times a week.

I do wonder if this is where we're heading-a final snap as a result of a poorly conceived mission and the arrival of Phillip's son.

I really liked that final bedroom scene, with Phillip seeming a little jealous and Elizabeth looking at him like he was crazy and explaining how she actually felt about her target. She doesn't appreciate his nice personality or likability, she resents it! I always love those moments where you get a peek into her thought processes, because I think we (and Phillip) can sometimes be fooled into thinking she enjoys the work in a way she doesn't just because she's so much better at compartmentalizing than he is.

Paige is young and does not know what hold having sex with a men puts over him.  After she finds that out.  Its will make a big difference.  Mom is now a tramp and will she have to become a tramp?

After R. Regan got in 1981.  The KGB and all other soviet bloc intel people.  Went into over drive.  because they through regan was going to start world war 3 and the soviet union was coming off the rails and they though Regan was doing it!

Looks like Philip and Elizabeth both didn't want to do the honeypot thing again.

Especially having to fly all the way to Kansas frequently.

Philip didn't seem to like the idea of his wife sleeping again with other men again.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth looks at her mark as a guy who's working on starving another country yet the guy seems like a nice person, not the monster that she imagines him to be.

Wonder how Paige would react if she knew what her parents were up to in Kansas.

"How do you get him to tell you what you want to know?"

    "I sucked his cock"

    Oh wait, that was Nina.

If they are having qualms about still having to seduce people to get information, are they going to teach Paige how to flirt, seduce, extort and kill?

Nina used the Russian version of that technique.  E uses the American version. Dinner first, than sex.

Everything is still a little disjointed for me. I know that the disparate "grain storylines" will eventually come together but I wish it would move along just a bit faster.

None of this is coming easy for Phil these days. Just wait til his long lost son shows up. Glad to see that Misha made it to the US so quickly. I expected that to drag out for longer.

P&E get to double date with Stan and Renee and she's smart, charming, etc. (Tell me again why she is with Stan.) Still don't know if she's watching Stan, P&E, or if she is just his girlfriend...

Are they really giving Henry a storyline? Loved his sass.

As far Paige, the Junior Spy and Pastor Tim...ugh! I am dreading it.

I'm glad mischa made it to the USA so fast. I thought they would string it out till the last episode of the season as a cliff hanger.

i get the feeling Granny may get the Hans exit this season fby way of the E special.

  13. Why is the Russian supermarket lady not shaking in her boots??   Two KGB agents are giving her the 3rd degree for 2nd time. They can beat her or thrown her in a cell until they get tired of doing it. Where the fear the KGB suppose to inspire?  Is this the kinder and more Gentle KGB???

I like Ike how they can run several large complicated intell programs. But got no clue what there son is up to?  Welcome to American burbs life E & P.

Oleg just found his hate point for old mother Russia. Put mom in gulag for 5 years. Time to make it hurt.

That's a really interesting interpretation @qtpye that I've never considered before! I think my one curiosity though would be applying this analysis in terms of Elizabeth's upbringing in the USSR. At first I was a little reticent to see this point of comparison since Elizabeth and Philip are so anti-religion, but I can sort of imagine Elizabeth as the socialist equivalent.

On the note of religion, I think I should rewatch the last set of episodes from season 4, but I was always a little bit curious about Elizabeth's interactions with Pastor Groovyhair and their conversations around belief and how much she takes it in vs. how much she deflects what he says.

I've always tended to analyze Elizabeth within the context of motherhood not just because she's a woman, but because the show itself slightly fixates on it (from Elizabeth's mother to Elizabeth to Paige). It would definitely be interesting to look at her through her relationship father figures. Sometimes I forget that part of her backstory is that her father was killed for trying to desert the army. And even before we were introduced to Elizabeth's relationship to Gabriel as a fatherly figure, General Zhukov also played that role for her. Maybe it's because I haven't watched the first season in awhile, but upon slight reflection, it's a bit surprising her rape didn't shake her resolve as much as it could have. Then again, maybe in a weird way it strengthened it since her body is often weaponized and dehumanized to further KGB agenda.

I read someone that the KGB and the Soviet government operated on a simple principle.  The state own EVERYTHING including the people.  And if the state tells you to do something you do it OR ELSE.  Even your own thoughts and free actions are owned by the state.  So Elizabeth is a piece of property to to be used by state for the state for what ever they see fit to do with it.  And its not the place of the "item / person" to complain or even argue with the state.   Because you don't ask or care what a hammer thinks before you use it.

I think he was shot for cowardice, which may have been desertion as well?

After all the talk about Misha, I started picturing Elizabeth's dad, terrified, cold, starving, shaking, and in the midst of shell shock/PTSD or all the other things humans have called it through wars.  Poor guy.

Out of a population of 110 million.  The soviet union had 26 million killed during WW 2!

My best friend and pub trivia partner spent eighteen months living in the Soviet Union in the late 70's. She insists that Leningrad, Moscow, Kiev, and even Minsk were unlike the rest of the country. Once she got out of those lovely cities which were full of relatively wealthy people, that's when she says half the time she couldn't find basic items like toilet paper and soap (she learned to travel with these items). That's where she saw houses held together by rope because they couldn't get nails. That's where she saw women spending their days in lines and where rumors were more valuable than newspapers. That's where she saw poverty unlike what she has seen in the U.S.

I have heard the city V non-city thing from other who been to both before the end of the Soviet Union.
