  1. I know Daphne was trying to help, but she came off really naive and annoying in this episode.

Bay also meant well, but she really should have told Travis about Emmett.  But I'm curious, how is Emmett doing a photography project with himself as a subject? Using a timer or whatever he was doing doesn't seem like it uses the same skills as standard photography where you frame the shot and look at the light and all that.

And of course Bay's boss is stealing her ideas. Because a 20-year-old having to work her way up from the bottom at a job with a tough boss wouldn't be decent enough drama.

Photographer here. Self portraits are legitimate and use all the same skills. They're even slightly more difficult because you need to do test shots and make sure you're lined up in the right spot. You would definitely be looking at light, framing the photo, etc as you would if you were looking through the viewfinder and pushing the button.

Made no sense why Bay kicked Travis out. There are obviously two bedrooms so room for all three there. I had hoped some of the writing would improve but alas.

It makes sense within the show....Bay has to give up what she wants most so that Daphne can have her way. Ug. Daphne has really moved her way up into my top 5 most hated TV characters over these past few seasons.

  3. I take back what I said this afternoon about the blindfold being gimmicky. That tango was my favorite of Nyle and Peta's dances, I think. (But then again I'm noticing that Argentinian Tango is probably my favorite dance for everyone).  I did notice his posture being not great, he was dancing like his suspenders were too short.

Paige was awesome, I am so excited to see her in the finale.  I wish Wanya was the third finalist but two out of three isn't bad.

I definitely like this idea. It's a great because it taking away one more of Nyle's senses. It leaves him having to rely on Peta and his memorization of the dance. If they can pull it off, it can definitely be a showstopper.

I think having him need to rely on anyone is a joke. Isn't his whole thing that just because he's deaf doesn't mean he's any different than anyone else? He doesn't need to rely on anyone else to help him. Ridiculous. It kind of seems like the whole show is making him into inspiration porn which, as far as I can tell, goes against what he is trying to accomplish.  He's a great dancer, just let him dance.  There are definitely plenty of people in the world who do need to be shown that someone who is deaf can do whatever they want so yes his visibility on the show is fantastic! And not just for ignorant hearing people but for deaf people as well, like my boyfriend. We have been taking ballroom dancing lessons together and I think he loves seeing someone he can relate to on TV! Representation matters.

It doesn't surprise me in the least that the show would stoop to the level of gimmicks, but they are really doing a disservice by doing that.

The DWTS Instagram account is promising some sort of emotional surprise from Peta and Nyle. Kym Johnson also commented that Nyle is doing something that will blow our minds. Here's hoping that they think just two people dancing without a giant production , an emotionally manipulative gimmick and 23 backup dancers is now considered "mind blowing" for this show.

I don't know if this is a spoiler so I will hide it

    Spoiler

but according to a picture on their facebook account it looks like he is dancing at least part of the dance blindfolded...

Have they had anyone dance blindfolded?

  6. I know next to nothing about the technical side of any of these dances, but I really thought Jodie's dance was better than Nyle's.  He looked kind of clunky in a lot of places (even to my uneducated eyes).

  7. What was with Paige's spray can red hair? It looked like Halloween in middle school. Why didn't they just give her a real red wig? Of leave her blonde hair alone? All the money and production that went into tonight and it looked like a cheap afterthought, especially ironic as Mark was praising the wardrobe, hair and make-up.

Haha, I agree! It would have been fine with her blond hair.  Nyle's tarzan wig gave me the biggest case of second-hand embarrassment this week though.

  8. 2. I think the judges should talk TO Nyle instead of ABOUT him when giving critique/comments. They position Ramon behind the judges' table so Nyle is looking at them while they are talking. To tell Peta ' You need to make sure Nyle does this or that' instead of saying 'Nyle, you need to extend your arms/make the movement continuous' is talking as if Nyle isn't even there. To me not talking TO him is ignoring him. (Am I wrong to think this? Can someone either in the Deaf/HOH community or versed in the culture help me out here.)

    You are correct.

  9. I've only occasionally watched this show in the past but my boyfriend and I started watching this season because we just had started taking taking some ballroom dancing lessons as few months ago. It's really interesting to watch Nyle because my boyfriend is also deaf and is saying he can relate a lot. We can get the steps but matching the steps to the beat is it's own challenge so we are working on developing our own cues as well. I hope we can get to the point where we are dancing as well as Nyle and Peta do!

  10. I wouldn't either, but my favorite picture of his was with the dog.  Whatever that was selling, I was buying.  Tyra should use that picture for her next pyramid scheme, because thats the only way I might listen to something about beautytainment.

Me too! I loved that picture. He could be wearing anything and whatever it is he is trying to sell, I'd buy it.

  11. The 10 month jump is just horrible. What it says to me is the Kennishes have three kids and not one of them is in college. And they apparently could give a crap less about being aunts to Carlton. We don't know if they stayed in KC or went to London but I know for sure the kid isn't in China. So so much for all the nice things you said Bay.

Yikes. They are what 19? I'd much rather them be out in the world exploring and learning about themselves than at home with their nephew.  To say that about Bay because she chose to not be wherever Carlton is? Sorry but that's absurd.

I like Travis, I would have no problem with him being with Bay. I do wish he hadn't set up that fake art show though....I get why he thought it was a good idea and his intentions behind it but what a really terrible idea.

I haven't been a fan of Mingo but my opinion of him changed in this episode. He deserves better than Daphne.

  12. Bay's non-Emmett men seem too old for her to me -- both Tank and Garrett look a good ten years older than Toby.

Agreed. The guy who plays Garrett is actually only 26, 4 years younger than Lucas Grabeel, but good heavens, he looks quite a bit older.

  13. And Bay, good lord. Girl will never catch a break, never ever.  And now they're setting her up as some kind of de facto rape counselor for everyone else in their universe?

Bay smiled when she said yes, she'd talk to the girl on Marybeth's floor so perhaps realizing she isn't alone in her experience and talking with others is helping her work through it. It's horrible that Travis can relate but it did seem like a weight was lifted of Bay's shoulders after he told her.

Why isn't anyone suggesting to Daphne that there is another option besides just asking John and Kathryn for the money: GET A JOB. Especially with the money stress right now, even if I knew it was all going to be fine, I'd certainly feel better if my child were willing to take on some of the load even if their contribution to the tuition was a minuscule amount. It'd still show a recognition that money doesn't grow on trees and an appreciation for what they are giving her. Toby should have suggested Daphne adopt the baby if she felt so strongly about it.

The decision on what to do regarding the pregnancy should be between Lily and Toby, no one else. If they want other people's input they can have it but like everyone else is saying Daphne really needs to shut up. What is this, the millionth time Daphne has "known best" what someone else should do?

  14. Has Bay actually ever expressed that she cares at all whether Daphne becomes a doctor or not? And Daphne at the end asking Bay whether she had anything to do with the break up and then saying "we'll get through this together". Hey Daphne, how about letting something not be about you for once. Please.

    Good riddance Emmett.

  15. Wait a minute, so the one sorority Daphne wanted to get into was the one that could give her the tests, right? And that's why she was crying when she didn't get a bid?

Everything MaryBeth said to Travis in the coffee house was spot on. I just wanted to give both her and Travis a hug. I really loved the two of them so of course it's sad but I am happy MaryBeth stood up for her own needs rather than staying in a relationship for the sake of it being "easier" than dealing with a break up or to just say she's in a relationship. I am so happy to see a mature breakup like that and I'm glad it wasn't over something dramatic like a massive fight or someone cheating (which is certainly a legitimate reason to break up, but that isn't what the majority of breakups look like!).

"Look in a mirror," random sorority girl is my new favorite character on the show. She should date Toby or become Bay's new best friend, just so she can be around to take whatever.character is being particularly annoying down a peg each week

    Agreed! I loved it!

And finally, I love seeing Russell Harvard (Julian) in anything! I suppose it was inevitable that he'd be on the show at some point.

  16. It did cross my mind as to why he would even show it to Kathryn if he didn't write it? Even if she asked to see it, wouldn't he just say that he handed it in already or something? I dunno. I just thought it a bit weird...

Nacho probably told him about how John and Kathryn happily allowed Bay to take the fall for Daphne's crimes and Travis probably figured if they let Daphne get away with felonies, they'd certainly let him get away with turning in a paper he didn't write.

  17. It does surprise me that Travis wasn't expelled for being the student who tried to cheat.  I mean, if they have reason to fire the coach then why wouldn't they expel the student?

I dunno.  Melody didn't report Travis for buying a keg for that underage drink fest in a campus dorm, so I guess underage people buying beer for underage students in a school dorm is not important.  Neither is Travis cheating.

It's not that I want Travis to be expelled, but it does raise some questions about university policies and when they are enforced or not.

Travis never handed that paper in. Kathryn was reading his latest draft of the paper and brought it to John because it was "too good".  Would you expect to get an F or be otherwise in trouble if someone's parents found you cheating on a paper before you turned it in? They'd probably just tell you to re-write it yourself and do everything they could to make sure you're handing in your own work.

  18. I thought it was interesting that they showed Dude asking Daphne for consent before he started taking clothes off.

    Agreed.

I thought this was one of the most boring episodes. I really don't care about any Daphne storyline anymore. This Mingo guy is boring and I hope he's gone for good (doubt it).  Agreed on Tess, don't care and don't know why I should care about her yet.

The only interesting part was with Travis. I was suprised they gave so much time to that storyline but it was a good one.

  19.

Which I will start by saying has got to be the most BORING episode of Switched At Birth ever

Agreed. I fell asleep for almost half the episode, something I've never done before. I just finished re-watching it and don't feel like I missed much.

I definitely think both Bay and Emmett need to be talking to a counselor (separately) about what happened. Emmett clearly is confused in how to handle the situation and I think Bay really could benefit from talking to someone about it as well.

So is the money Regina used for the coffee shop (the $50,000) part of the settlement money left to them by Angelo? Is that Regina's money? Or Daphne's money? Or both?  Why does Regina need to check with Daphne before investing it?  Regina is clearly a competent business woman. While I don't think it's necessarily wise to be investing in a business that someone you're in a relationship with is running, Daphne didn't know Regina was dating Eric at the time when she got all worked up about Regina not talking to her before investing the money.

When Regina said something to Daphne about fall break that started off with "Those of us who aren't royalty....". Yup, sums it up. Princess Daphne, everyone else is at your service. Hate hate hate her.
