  1. The OSS (Office of Strategic Services) was formed by Colonel Bill Donovan on July 11, 1941. After the war, the CIA inherited the mission. There was an OSS agent sent to appraise the threat from Heisenberg, the head of the German effort. I see no mention of OSS operations in the US. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_of_Strategic_Services
  2. As I have mentioned in other posts/forums (fora?), The quick shots we see in the season finales of this and other dynamic series, often are meant to mislead or misdirect the audience. This can sometimes be an artificial point of increasing drama. An attentive viewer (as we all are) will by nature expect that a scene of action follows a sequential path, but this is not always the case. The scene of a person in the backseat of a car, driven by two soldiers, may or may NOT be happening right after our last view of Dr. Winter (Frank, not Liza) combing his hair, or Op listening intently to the 'confession' wire recording. It may be a flash forward to the next season, or sometime hours or days after the events in this season. I believe it may be after Meeks has returned, and is fingered by his tail in NY, or Albuquerque wen he met with his contact. Also, in another loose thread for the car exiting with the bagged purp in the back seat: As the end music plays, we see the car, or similar, heading out on a dirt road and into a cloud of dust. The problem is that the first shot earlier, is in broad daylight and the final closing shot is at night... Looking forward to more discussion, and 2015 to see if the Winters are still around. Hope so.
  3. Op and Stimson trump anyone below, and Fisher will do what they say. Frank's final solution gives them the perfect way out of the mess, and onto the path of success. Frank and Liza carefully orchestrated the wire recording, to do what everyone needed. It saves the project, it saves the Isaacs, and it provides atonement for Frank's sins. It is something that 'not a good man, but a great one' would do. Op and Stimson see it. Whether Frank's sacrifice is total, or they just need to remove him from the scene (Leavenworth?) until after the war, remains to be the biggest question I have for Series 2.
  4. From the Britannica: Russian “restructuring” program instituted in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Gorbachev in the mid-1980s to restructure Soviet economic and political policy. Seeking ... Wow, reforming the project, after the 'gadget' wreaked havoc on the lives of so many on the hill. Frank's life changing opportunity was not exactly the obvious. Great ones may not be good ones, but Frank delivered the success of implosion in a dramatic and brilliant stroke. Frank and Liza are my two heroes, and remind me that great partners are required to achieve world change. One gets the credit, but but both deserve recognition.
  5. Russians or Nazis? Hmmm... we wonder about that. Given the later loss of critical data to the Russians about the Hydrogen Bomb, I suspect them. Did they finger Magpie to slow down the US progress? Hmmm... A great season finale.
